Not going to happen. 16GB for the 5C, 5S starts at 32GB. That will help differentiate the two models.

I don't even want one but that's complete bull. I've always been able to manage with the 16GB but with increasing camera quality every year and a growing iTunes library (only 9GB) I've been having to do a lot of picking and choosing what I want to delete lately. Even for "casual users" 16GB is seemingly pushing it these days. I understand the need to differentiate but 16GB only is not the way to do it.

Apple hasn't really been that 'awesome' brand since the iPhone 4 In my opinion.

I upgraded from the 4 to 4S but only because it boots up faster, Infact I've regretted it for a while. I've always had Siri off so don't notice anything much different from when I had the 4.

Not planning on getting the 5 or the 5S or the 5C. It just seems since the 4, nothing has changed. It's just the same everything, nothing exciting. Hopefully one day Apple decides to come up with something great again but until then, I'll stick to my 4S.

I'm still on the 4, but that's mostly because of my contract we were screwed with in Canada. There must be hundreds if not thousands in the same boat as me. I went from the 3G in '08 to the 4 in '10. I've been locked into this contract since then. Next September is the month of my next phone!

...That Apple is shipping complete models before they have a complete GM of iOS 7? I would find that difficult to believe. If they did have a shipment-ready OS, why would they not release it to the developer community so that the developers could have their applications ready day 1? I'm not putting much stock into this.

GMs are usually released the same day as the event. It contains code that would reveal features of the new iPhones which is why Apple don't release it sooner.

For developers beta 6 is probably close enough for making the apps ready.

I agree. It's getting increasingly difficult with my 16GB iPhone 4.

5c

I think this is the one I have been waiting for. I jump between my office and jobsites and have cracked both a 4 and a 4s. I suspect this phone is going to being a lot more durable (like the 3GS was) and I just need a basic phone (Phone, text, email, maps - not into a lot of apps)..... Even 8 GB would be fine for me..

They usually have at least 3 models to chose from in each product with some degree of overlap so my guess is we will see a 8GB, 16GB and 32GB iPhone 5C with the iPhone 5S upped to 32GB, 64GB and 128GB.

The iPod Touch starts at 16GB (as their entry level model), so I would assume 16/32/64GB on the 5C and 32/64/128GB on the 5S.

I could live with 64GB but the 128GB model is what interests me. Hi def music takes up a lot of space. The bulk of my non-hi def music is CD rips which still take up a lot of room. My current 32GB phone never has any available room without deleting something.

STill have a year left on my contract. Besides, unless this can get me a girlfriend instantly, I doubt any new features will be good enough to buy it. While any new/updated features will definitely be cool, probably not necessary.

It's evident that with Tim's doubling down on security, we are almost at the point where we will be able to track the shipment of the 5C units from all the way from Foxconn.
While i agree that the security of the forthcoming iphones has been laughable, he did a damn good job keeping the Mac Pro under wraps. And 10 to 1 there will be an iWatch, and he's got that thing locked down too.
The problem is a device like the iphone has so many steps in production at the volume it needs to be made. Its almost impossible to keep something like that secret.. as long as he keeps bringing more manufacturing back to the US, then they will have much better control on leaks.

I'm sorry, but there is a HUGE difference in the packaging. The 'background color' of the sticker is the same as the device. That makes it look so... cheap. At least from far away. I'd rather they all had the same background-image. But then, who am I.
In iOS7 the launch screen now matches the color of the iphone (black with white apple, or white with black apple) I'm betting that the launch screens will be those colors on the new 5Cs.

I would like to hear if someone knows how it is being done. How is the iOS being uploaded on a device manufactured before the release of the GM? Are the devices in original packaging and being unpacked and packed again all on US soil. Does it affect the cost or it is really insignificant?
I am very curious.
I remember a patent a while back for live updating while in-store in packaging.
I wonder if this is finally coming to fruition?

Well I don't think that is that bold of a prediction. Obviously they are doing this for a reason, and that's because they know it will sell. Cheaper price makes it more accessible and "fun" colors that will appeal to kids and women. Of course it will be a big seller.

If that is the case the priority at Apple has taken a turn for the worse. Obviously I expect the 5C to do well but just get the feeling its going to do TOOOO well.

Larger screen, better screen, significantly faster CPU and GPU, much better camera -- these amount to "nothing exciting?" What more would you expect? It's not going to do your laundry.

I see what you're saying, but it's not really true.
They have size choices in the main product (iPhone 5 and iPad 4), but the cheaper ones do not.

Right now apple has the 5, 4s and 4. The 4 and 4s are only in one size each (8GB and 16GB). Only the flagship model has choices.

Same goes for the iPad 4 and Pad 2. The iPad 4 has choices, the iPad 2 has only one size.

Gary

The iPad mini has 3 choices and the iPad has 4 choices. They'll probably drop the iPad 2 when they update the iPads next month.

I'm suggesting they will change policy with the iPhone next week. I think they will scrap the iPhone 5, 4 and 4S leaving just 2 models - the iPhone 5S and 5C. Currently you're right there are basically 5 iPhone models to chose from. I think they will extend that to 6 models to provide a broader range of price points.

It could at least take the garbage out

I would expect the new iPod touch to move up to 32/64/128GB leaving the iPod nano at 16GB and the Shuffle at 8GB.

8/16/32GB iPhone 5C makes more sense so they can keep the price points down and to differentiate it as much as possible from the more expensive iPhone 5S.

It's impossible to double down on security if your phone is THE most popular phone in the whole world.

It really looks as though the 5C will have the same internals as the 5, and come in 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB models. Accordingly, this looks like it will begin at $99 with contract (unless Apple gets very aggressive, which I doubt). This makes the earlier report that the 4S would be retained more possible (even with the old 32 pin port) at 8GB for $0.

Please, god, let there be 32gig models.

Why wouldn't there be? Apple loves to sell those $100 GB upgrades. Sure price point it would bump up against the 16GB 5S, but I still don't see too much overlap between the two models. But weighing that against the insane margins on the GB upgrades and I can't see Apple missing the opportunity.

One question is why ship these early to the US at all? I understand that they will sell, but doesn't Apple expect the launch day earlier adopters to buy the 5S nearly exclusively? Is anyone from the US with enough techy interest to be on these forums going to buy the 5C?

Better screen - retina thing is welcome but it's nothing to get excited about.

Bigger screen - I don't like big screened phones. If I want a big screen device, I'd get a tablet or something.

Faster CPU - that's why I have a 4S so it boots up faster than my iPhone 4 did. Why would I want a faster CPU for playing a few games and tweeting? Companies use "it's faster" as some kind of excuse when they have no major improvements.

Better camera - The 4S camera is ok for taking pictures and I'm happy with it but If I want a decent camera then I'll buy an actual camera.

I just want Apple to stop releasing the same thing every year. There is only so many times you can release the same iPhone with a slightly better processor, a better camera, little slimmer/lighter/bigger before people get sick of it.

Apple should come up with something to make people go "wow" again. I'm personally bored of the same old thing over and over. I know others probably are happy paying hundreds for virtually the same device every year but I'm not, hence why I'm happy on the 4S.

maybe they are going to wal mart to be sold to people on prepaid?

depending on what it is i might trade my 5 for it. if i sell my 5 and get this with no more contract with AT&T its less ETF i have to pay when i leave AT&T to t-mobile

I'm a HUGE Apple fan and unfortunately I have to agree with you.

While we don't know for sure what will be announced next week - if the leaks are correct, it's disappointing. I think Apple's current release cycle (new device every 2 years and an S device the year between) was fine in the past, but Apple is now one of the largest tech companies (with thousands of employees and they have suppliers/carriers by the berries) and I feel like they should speed their release cycle. These incremental updates are disappointing when you look at what other phone companies are introducing.

I wonder if we will see a shorter life cycle now that we see phone companies jumping on the bandwagon of updating your devices more frequently.

I have had Apple gift certificates burning a whole in my pocket since December '12 - waiting for a new iPad and/or iPhone.

I'm disappointed NFC 5 prototype models that were shelved last min due to failed negotiations bet Apple and major banks haven't made their way into the 5S. A fingerprint sensor would make sense with NFC (does more than act as a payment device - NFC is used for many things). Maybe next years.

wow. nothing left up the imagination anymore. i was looking forward to some surprises at the keynote. i still check this site 200 times a day though

if you want to be surprised, why on earth do you visit a rumors & leaks site? what did you expect to happen?

easy problem for you to solve if you take personal responsibility.

These leaks could all be a clever form of misdirection... Everyone knows that every year around early september there is a new iPhone, you don't need to look at sites like macrumors to work that out. I'm expecting a new product to pop up that may well over shadow both of these releases, that will be the surprise in the keynote. At least i'm hoping it will. Not long now until we find out.
