To be fair, I literally ran over my iPhone4 with my SAAB (the phone fell out of the pocket on my hoodie) and all it has to show for it is a few scratches, and a couple of smears in the LCD which people only notice if I show them a dark image and point it out to them. It has been dropped numerous times, and now it has a home button problem (it's what, three years old now? Reasonable failure) so when it acts up I either crack it open and re-seat the connector, or if I don't have the time or tools handy, I just drop it flat on the face and the button will work flawlessly for a few more days. Not too shabby. I don't understand how people break the screen so easily on the iPhone4 after all I have put it through - including running it over on a crushed-stone driveway. As far as I am concerned, the iPhone 4 is a virtual tank.

Now, the 3GS - durable? BWAHAHA! I gave it to my best friend when I upgraded, and she broke the screen not once, but TWICE.

LOL.. Guess everyone is a tad different :) I barely dropped the iPhone 4 and the back and front both cracked (Small to start with but kept expanding) - and I bumped into a steel beam (with the 4S in my pocket) and cracked the back.

On the other hand, I dropped my original, 3, and 3GS off of balconies, steps, and city street and they were fine (well, all scratched up from multiple drops, but not busted)... As a matter of fact, my best friend still has my 3GS (He unlocked it and runs it on PAYG) and it's still chugging along, although battery life is down to about 5 hours..... The same guy also was the lucky dude that got my original and 3 with similar results :)

I'm not going to lie - the blue iPhone 5c with the blue background looks pretty cool.

Wager: iPhone 5C ends up being wildly popular, possibly most popular model to date, and more popular than 5S.

If that happens, it will just confirm that a lot of people want a body/color change every year to differentiate the new iPhone they just bought from the one their friend purchased 9-12 months earlier. People who can easily afford a 5S may go for 5C, just for the different look/feel (if gold/graphite isn't enough of a change for them).

Oh give me a break!

I see what you did there!

I am sure there are going to be some HUGE FEATURES missing from the 5C that will keep people hooked onto the "premium" iPhone models. Similar to how there are a ton of INCREDIBLE features on the mercedes S-class that they will never put on the E or C classes.

Also, BROOKLYN REPRESENT!

Doubling down on security by leaking more than anyone thought possible before we even announce it

I honestly believe that Apple has been leaking a lot of the iphone 5c on purpose. They were aware it was an important shift from their unibody, and they wanted the public opinion to get used to this gradually.

The iPhone 5C has to be Apple's worst kept secret ever. So much for "doubling down on secrecy".

no. iphone 4 was left in a bar and reported on mainstream media. these leaks are only on enthusiast rumor/leak sites.

Moreover, it looks like a toy.

you do realize people have said that for PCs (mainframe folks), the mac, the macbook, the iphone, the ipad, etc.. originality aside, in this case it may be more apt -- id bet this phone is marketed to younger consumers who cannot afford expensive phones.

I hope Apple will bring out the big guns come iPhone 6. I'm wishing for some revolution.

you need to prepare yourself for disappointment. the revolution has happened -- this is now a maturing product category. it will not be emitting flying cheeseburgers out of the screen.

Brand new super-slim design,

wait, wha?

13MP high-quality camera (if not more),

quality cameras are not measured by MP count. theyre measured by quality glass & sensors -- better pixels, not more. adding MPs doesnt make a camera better.

all aluminum body

wait, wha?

Imagine if the 5C is just a huge elaborate smoke screen and doens't exist. We went through the same crap back in 2011 with the 4S release. We were all expecting a tear-drop shaped iPhone

There is no spoon...

What will happen to the people on this forum if on the 10th they only reveal the 5C and there is no 5S. Perhaps the gold colour was just an old prototype which they decided not to produce. I cant see any reason for two new 5x iPhones.

Polylactic acid is actually considered a first generation bio-plastic and is now rapidly replaced by starch derived and other plastics (which in some respects are inferior in quality and durability). Many of the second generation bio-plastics are now derived from base materials that are not first-grade food based and have less of an impact on food supply. As these are often fermentation based, their carbon footprint is much much lower than aluminium and oil-based plastics. In addition, these are produced from bio-waste such as animal cadavers, and by-products from e.g. sugar production such as sugarcane and sugarbeet waste.

We are going in the right direction with plastics, but unfortunately not fast enough...

Amen to that, and thanks for the info, I'm always amazed at the creativity and imagination needed to advance science and technology (animal cadavers, who would have thought).

Difference is we never saw not one part from the so called teardrop design.

Yuk, those black faces are fugly ugly.

Those black faces look absolutely ghastly with the pastel colours. They really should haven gone with white faces given that iOS7 has a white colour base. I hope at least the white model gets a white face. I so wanted a more saturated yellow back and white face.

If this means they'll offer for sale the 5C before the 5S it means that Apple has no qualms offering this new phone for sale before its new flagship premium phone is available, which would mean that Apple doesn't believe they will lose any sales of the 5S to the 5C. If that's all true, then the 5C must be HUGELY different from the 5S such that people who buy the 5C would *never* buy the 5S, because Apple would never risk losing one single sale of the 5S to the new 5C.

Or they are leaking these pics and keeping the 5s secret because fan complaints before the release will kill it

Ha. Perhaps Apple should cover the case with the same thermochromic material used in Mood Rings :)

Then have a temp sensor color coordinate the wallpaper with your body temperature and the case.

I would like to hear if someone knows how it is being done. How is the iOS being uploaded on a device manufactured before the release of the GM? Are the devices in original packaging and being unpacked and packed again all on US soil. Does it affect the cost or it is really insignificant?

I am very curious.

Apple actually has the software before it's released :)

When they have it verses when they give it to developers or the average user or place on new models being manufactured are several different timelines.

I'm sure the iOS 7 team used beta 2 (for example) for more than a few days before they gave it to the developers.

EXACTLY! Until we get a holographic display or a flexible screen that rolls up to the size of pencil, I'm not expecting anything super innovative. Overall, the main concept is the same of the first iPhone. It's prettier, faster and has some cooler effects and more features (great camera, resolution, storage, speed), but it's the same general idea.

Realistically, this is really all that different than the Palm OS from a 10 years (15 years?) back. Icons that launch apps that you can download and run. I had web access on that with a mail, calendar, address book and memo apps. I had a camera on some of my Palm phone models. I even had a ways to sync .mp3 music with iTunes on it. Again, it's prettier and a little less rough around the edges, but much of what we have now people saw then as the future; if only we had: faster data, bigger screen brighter screen, better sound, faster processor, more storage, etc.

And before that was the Newton...

The biggest changes that aren't just extrapolations of what was already there? Multi-finger touches (but still just an extension of one finger/stylus) and Siri (replaced handwriting recognition of the Newton). These are off the top of my head, not a comprehensive list.
