what a load of crap....

it is not the "short man complex" its the "I am a LoSeR" complex...

if you couldnt make a dent in this life, of course you'll be jealous...
other people's height is just an excuse to cover your own miserable life...

I am 5'9 and I eat 6'5 birds for breakfast.....:p

28" waist, 18" arms, lotsa money and confidence... do something with your life...be somebody....
then come and tell me if your height matters....pfff
^ :D priceless. ;)

I'm 6'3", so I guess I'm perfectly happy! :) Nah- nothing is made for tall people- not planes, cars, trains, buses, or any public transportation. The only things that tall people get are shelves in the kitchen. We can always reach the top shelf. Height is intimidating as well, I suppose.

That said- I LOVE short guys. I always have- they're cute, lovable and tend to have lots of energy. Also- nature compensates for lack of height in other ways, if you get my meaning. ;)

Don't forget, we get the views at general admission concerts too. It must suck to be staring at someone's armpit instead of watching the band play...

OK- I'll give you that. But I always get there early and get a balcony seat, man. I'm too old to stand in front of a stage anymore. My knees are too bad. :(

Napoleon Complex + lots of brooze = **** with potential to be either annoying or really f**king dangerous.

Anyone else notice just how good Joe Peshi is in Goodfellas etc?

Scarily accurate.

5' 8", so I'm a little under US standards. Though pretty tall for my country of origin apparently. Actually, I've gotten over not being 5'10" or more, I don't know, I think once I passed year 21? And I know of shorter people who does not seem to be bothered by their height, either. Maybe the supposed "jealousy" and chips on the shoulder carried by shorter people is just a way for taller people to feel a little more superior?... Most people do mature and end up accepting who they are, you know?

And for those other shorties that do have jealousies, remember to always go fro the knees first. 6'4" quickly goes down to 5'2", then you can elbow or knee to the face to your heart' content. :D

It's funny. The one time I got into a fight, it was with this 6'6" jerk who started pushing me around, thinking that his extra foot of height made him impressive.
He was for about .5 seconds after he pushed me for the third time. Then not so much. ;)

As a short guy, I know I'm short, but there's a remarkable number of people who think you haven't noticed and will remark without thinking, "You're short."
What do you say to this? "Holy frak, I shouldn't have put myself in the dryer this morning!" ;)

Oh do stop! You're destroying my image of you as a muscular perfect male specimen...

Well, part of the reason for that is managing arthritis. I have it in both my knees and it looks like my left ankle is next- it's been acting up too. My left knee went out when I was 35. It was so bad that I couldn't walk for 2 days. I went and had an MRI done and there it was- nasty arthritis. So, while I've always been an athletic guy, it's even more important now for me to stay in shape. If I don't, the deterioration will accelerate. I'm hoping not to have the knee replacements before 55 as they only last about ten years before you need new ones. Sorry to ruin your image. :) It freaked me out at first, but I haven't had any major problems since that first time. We all have our crap to deal with and that's mine. It's actually been going rather well and I don't usually have too much pain most of the time.

Yes, we should be jealous. The inequality in height distribution in this country is an outrage. My advice would be to use incentives and perhaps a stimulus package to help those of us who are vertically challenged individuals and just haven't has the same growth opportunities. As far as I'm concerned, if one of us is short, we are all short.

5' 6 1/2", same height as Michael Bloomberg

Same here, people keep saying I should play basketball etc. and im like I DONT WANT TO! Then they ask why not?

Idiots.

How about it? I got that all through high school. The football coach also always tried to get me on the team because I could run fast. But I liked track and cross country much better. I was like, leave me alone, I got my sports I like already!

Bs!

As a sociologist, I think this is just more BS. In the first place, studies never speak for all individuals in a category. They look at a group of tall men and a group of short men, and may find more jealousy in the short group. But there will be many in the short group that are not jealous, and many in the tall group that are. I have certainly known wonderful short people and tall folks who were jacka**s.

Although I do think that when society values one body type over another resentments are bound to occur. Too bad we can't understand that the more diverse a species is, the better its chance of survival. ALL body types served a purpose in getting us here!

LeeKohler - Have you ever tried glocosamine and chondroitin? My knees on my ample body are just fine despite all the warnings from the health casandras. But I do live on a 4th floor walk up and once in awhile the one that was knocked out by domestic violence decades ago acts up. (The gift that keeps on giving.) I find the kind that they sell at Trader Joes that dissolves in water helps when that happens.

to add on to this, I don't realize how short I am until I see someone else my height and think "Holy crap...am I THAT short?"

until that happens, i really don't notice.

Thanks. I haven't tried either of those. I read that they really don't do anything. And honestly, I'm doing pretty good managing it with exercise. My knees are fairly bad too- I've seen the pictures. But thanks- who knows, I might try them.
