Wow that's a fantastic contract! How much do you pay monthly? I'm on 3 as well but I get 500 minutes, unlimited texts, 1GB data and 5000 3-3 minutes. I'm paying £35 a month (24 month contract) but had to pay £240 upfront (mind that I have a 32GB iPhone 4). I'm hoping to leave 3 when my contract finishes as their coverage in my area is absolutely appalling, the only networks with decent coverage in my area are Vodafone and O2 so I'm moving to either one of them next. Either way, I'm going to go sim-only as the iPhone 4 is more than enough for my needs (only texting, facebooking, web browsing and listening to music on it these days).

To the OP: I'd wait it out till the new iPhone comes out, you might regret upgrading right now. I'm sure the iPhone 4 will satisfy you till then ;)

I'm on GiffGaff - £10 a month gets me unlimited data, unlimited texts, unlimited GiffGaff to GiffGaff calls, and 250 minutes. They use 02, so the coverage is adequate. The customer service is non-existent, and there were some issues a few months ago when I joined, so I spent some time on their forums - which earn me payback. I earned just over £10 in a couple of weeks of doing what I what have been doing anyway!

GiffGaff is NOT unlimited and they are just another bunch of pirates offering a supposedly unlimited data allowance, but tucking away a very badly and ambiguous FUP, which basically says they can cut you off if they deem you have affected the network.

no mention of a data limit or a time period, just if they deem it necessary.

These people should be put out of business for offering unlimited data that is not truly unlimited, along with any resellers.

It's nothing short of fraud IMO.

Same Boat!

I just quit my job to take on a start up venture and I am currently suffering through having to use a BlackBerry (Please Kill Me!). Long story short, I too am awaiting the arrival of the 5 and in the mean time will just be patient!

In the Word Of Mr. George Savile, "A man who is a master of patience is master of everything else."

Good luck my friend!

I'd rather stick to one of the big 5 networks. At least they're reliable, well established and should anything happen then its more likely they'll compensate you in some way (from my experience anyways).

Like pretty much everyone else in this thread, I'd advise to wait. Time seems to fly by and October will be here before you know it.

In fairness to Giff Gaff, they run on the o2 network so coverage should be good.

The problem with these virtual network operators is that they don't get priority on the parent network, so o2 direct customers will always get a better service than Giff Gaff customers (same for Virgin Mobile in the UK, as they use T-Mobile's network (and presumably Orange's too now), so T-Mob customers will always do better.

It's a classic case of getting what you get for with GG. There's no customer service to speak of, most (all) of that is done by the GG community on their forum and everyone on GG can make £5 for themselves and £5 for a someone who they get to sign up for GG and (IMO) that's why whenever there's a thread asking for opinions/advice on a new SIM deal, all the Giff-Gaffers crop up suggesting GG and pimping their "unlimited" data (which as you can see really gets my goat).

AFAIK, only 3 and now T-Mobile in the UK offer unlimited data.

3's is truly unlimited and called "All you can eat", without any restrictions and I gather T-Mob's is the same on their "Full Monty" package.

GG are not alone in these "unlimited data" claims, I think Tesco do the same (they also use the o2 network) and it's a practice that needs to stop.

It's either unlimited or it's not, there's no inbetween where it's "unlimited, but with a throttling policy", as that will "limit" the service.

/gets of soapbox.

I would wait for the new one it's only 5 months away, start saving some extra cash between now and the release date of the new phone then buy the Faxtory unlocked version from Apple and be free of contracts. Your new phones resale value will also be higher.

Just skip the daily run to the coffee shop and put the $2.00 aside every day and your upgrade will be paid for.

Sell your current locked phone For $250 If its the 16gb

$650 new phone 16gb (Canadian Pricing)
-250 sale of the old phone more if you get AT&T to unlock it
-170 for what you would have paid for the upgrade
-200 for the $2.00 per day coffee fund savings
=$30 remaining +local tax's to pay for a fully unlocked phone
