People would find something else to bitch about. Things like why didn't the 4S get AirDrop or that it shouldn't have been hard to put Control Center on iOS6.
This is not the same thing at all. How do you even come to compare it to this?
Bitching about old devices not getting new features is one thing. Having a harmless looking software update cripple core functionality and then not allow users to revert back to the last proper functioning version is entirely different. Apple is just too arrogant to admit that releasing iOS7 this early was a mistake.

The worst part is that you had absolutely no way of knowing what iOS7 was like and what the new apps were like. Its not like MacRumors has been discussing iOS 7 since people started putting betas on their various devices. But yeah, Apple caught you completely by surprise. The worst part is that Apple forced you to upgrade your iPad.
If you remove the sarcasm, you are absolutely right. I heard people complaining about the new look and about bugs (that are to be expected in a beta), but I had no idea that the new music app is structurally so bad. Old clickwheel iPods are easier and faster to use than my modern iPod touch is now.

But this discussion is going the wrong direction. Why should we even have to justify our wish to install iOS6? Apple are seemingly thinking that they are infallible and that everything they release must be loved without criticism. Why should it? I have never heard of any other operating system that has such a lockdown for old version in place.

Yes. There is simply no reason why not. Apple should allow downgrades down to the software the phone originally came with.

What core functionality did 7 break that other people said works fine for them? Changes to the calendar and Music app, while annoying, are hardly core functionality. No longer being able to make phone calls is breaking core functionality.

Can someone explain why they voted no, and chose to restrict other people's rights to downgrade?

My opinion is, why the F do you care if people downgrade or not? Is it affecting you in any way? Lets say you have Mountain Lion, is it affecting you that some people still run Leopard or Snow Leopard? I guess it doesn't, so why do you care about iOS downgrades?

Anyone? Pls, I want an answer to try understand. It'd be much appreciated :D

So far, he's the only one to give an answer:

Look at it this way, the more people on iOS7 the quicker bugs get noticed and fixed. So why should you restrict the pace development of the OS I use.

Know what you have the right to do? Not upgrade until you're sure you want it.

So lets say 100 million ppl use iPhones.

3 weeks ago it was said 50-60% upgraded to iOS7.

Is 50-60 million not enough to detect bugs? What about ML? ML is perfectly fine, and still many people use SL and L...

Also, On my 2010 17" MBP... I installed ML, worked like ****, so I downgraded to what it came with, SL. So the not upgrade till you are sure is kinda pointless IMO. With the laptops you can upgrade and downgrade as much as you want, and no one is restricting the pace of development of future OSs... Why would it be different on a phone?

My iPod doesn't do any phone calls. It's a pure mp3 player. With 64GB of storage, it is tailored for large music collections. I gladly paid 400€ for it because I wanted to store my whole collection on it.

A year later, a harmless looking update pops up. I install it, and all of a sudden I need to scroll through a list of 164 Beatles songs if I want to reach the album Abbey Road. If I want to listen to the new Black Sabbath album, I need to scroll through 157 songs first.
If I want to reach the latest Dream Theater album, I need to fight my way though 232 tracks of studio albums and live recordings. Scrolling through a list of 232 tracks is no fun. This is not what I paid 400€ for.

...and don't get me started on classical music. I currently have "only" 140 track of music by Beethoven imported in my iTunes library - but this is going to rise considerably in the next weeks when I have time to import more. Scrolling through it on iOS7 will be maddening.

Ummmm, surely you just go Albums>Abbey Road. Or use the search bar under Artists to look for the album. Why scroll through all the tracks under Artists?

Well, you cannot elect album base on letters. You have to keep scrolling until you get to the album...

Lets say I'm in the mood for Front Line Assembly but I'm not sure which album I want to listen to. Previously I go to Artists and then select the album from the list of albums, and then you see just the tracks in that album. Now I have to scroll through all the tracks of every album until I get to the one I want. They removed the middle step of just seeing the list of albums. Its a change that they didn't have to make, and while it doesn't affect me too much I do understand why it is really annoying.

Then I'm presented with a list of currently 566 albums to scroll through. Abbey Road isn't even at the top of the list. I have a lot of albums that start with numbers or with the word "a" (like "A momentary Lapse of Reason").

Or use the search bar under Artists to look for the album.

Why should I resort to typing for something that worked well with a single swipe under iOS6? I don't ask Apple to invent something new, just to un-break something that wasn't broken under iOS6 (and allow me to downgrade to iOS6 until they manage to un-break it)
The general rule I follow is this: if the software an old clickwheel iPod is more convenient than the software of an iPod touch with a mutitouch screen, a dual core processor and 512MB RAM, Apple is doing something terribly wrong.

Apart from that, typing on iDevices in portrait rotation is horrible due to the screen's small width. And switching to portrait and having to use two hands just to reach an album... no, just no.

We are losing the point though. The current state is not acceptable for a device that I paid good money for. A simple downgrade to iOS6 would solve everything.

Who cares, if you want old software then figure it out on your own. Just stop complaining. No one is forcing you to use iOS 7.

This is a joke, right? Apple IS FORCING us to use iOS7. That's the point of this thread (and many other threads).

Not a solution, but something I do when I have bands that start with "The", "The Cramps" for example, is under sorting I have them as "Cramps".

This can help for specific cases, but the general behaviour is annoying in most other cases.
I just had another look at my collection of Beethoven Piano Sonatas. 32 Piano Sonatas labelled "Piano Sonata No. 1" through "Piano Sonata No. 32". To get to his 29th sonata (the famous "Hammerklavier") is quite a chore. And it will get worse when I import more of his music.

Anyway, I think people who agree with Apple's policy of "no downgrades" are brainwashed sheep. The iOS7 music app is a chore to use, a punch in the face of music lovers, the very people who helped Apple become relevant again in the early 2000s by purchasing iPods. Without us, there would be no iPhoneOS in the first place. Thanks for showing us your gratitude, Apple.

No they are not. You are a free person with many choices.

People had 3 days to go back before Apple stoped signing iOS6.

OK, but what if I upgraded today and have just found it a slow and ugly piece of ***** ? I shoud be given a chance to go back where I felt comfortable, shouldn't I ? That would be fair, but it isn't.

If only you could see what it looks like before you update.

Yes, Screenshots would have helped him soo much to evaluate how slow it is on his device. Lol.
If only looks were the biggest problem of iOS 7...

BTW: you are able to see how the new MacOS looks before you update AND you still can downgrade if you don't like it after you installed it. Why can't it be like this with iOS?

You don't need to authorise with Apple's servers to up/downgrade Mac OSX, so if your hardware supports the OS, you can run it any time you like. Phones are more locked down.

Someone more cynical than me might say that if Apple allowed downgrades on iOS then it would not be able to boast of its high uptake and consequently low level of fragmentation compared with Android.

I find it funny that after 2,500 view and countless replies the general feel is still 50/50 according to the poll results. You'd think if that was such a big deal that people were making it out to be it would have been more like 90/10 or 80/20.

If (and it's a pretty big if, as I don't see it happening) Apple did allow people to downgrade to iOS6 they certainly shouldn't spend any resources developing it beyond what it did at 6.1.4.

You don't like 7, fine, but suggesting Apple continue to support 6 is just plain crazy!

I'd say the same for apps too - any development should be moving forward not keeping us in 2012/13

Nobody ever wanted that. We just want to go back to an existing version of iOS6 (without any further support from Apple) until iOS7 reaches maturity. 7.1 or 7.2 will probably be fine, but 7.0 still feels unfinished.

Who voted no????? Those who LOVE IOS7???
If downgrading to iOS 6 were allowed there would be far less whining on the forums. I will quit whining for sure!!!!
