Hey guys i guess i just need some convincing. my friend bought one last week and we hooked it up to the internet and played some COD4 and i was hooked, now im on the verge of going down to bestbuy and purchasing a brand new PS3. Should I?????

hey buddy, if you have the money i say get it. its a toy and a kick a.. toy at that. i play COD4 on my PC and im totally addicted. awesome single player experience and the multiplayer is really addictive. that said, i prefer my FPS to have a mouse and keyboard.

it may cost alot, but it would be some sweet hardware to have. and metal gear solid 4 omg, cannot wait. it almost makes me wanna buy a PS3 just for that

that being said, remember it is a toy and if you like it then get it. you should try an xbox 360 tho if you havent already

my brother has both and i have a 360. i must say that i'm not too happy with the 360's problems it seems they are always breaking. on the other hand the PS3 doesn't have that many games out right now. I'm sure that the PS3 will have alot of good games out soon but as of right now the 360 just has more to offer. I have seen my brother play the PS3 online and i think that LIVE is much better. but like everyone said if you have the cash then do it, well worth the money imo

wow i have no regrets this thing is so much more amazing than the 360

I just mean logically the 360 has many more games, higher rated games (Goty on PS3 was CoD4, 360 has this game but Bioshock won the 360 Goty), more genres, more online features and players in said games.

Maybe I'm too logical :D

Yes you should i have owned a 360 which broke (rrod) and now have a Ps3 i have to say i do not regret switching. I knew that 2008 would be a good year for the Ps3 there are several fantastic exclusives coming in the next few months that i can not wait to play. Any one who has owned or played both systems can agree the xbox is like a jet or helicopter when it starts up, which its quiet annoying it distracts from the gaming. The Ps3 on the other hand is dead silent, which is nice for watching movies ;) I say go for it.

To be fair - the PS3 can get VERY loud if it needs to. I've heard it.

Fold some proteins for 7 hours +, and if the ambient goes over 70F - the PS3 can sound like a Jet Engine itself.

For the most part - the thermal design of the PS3 is actually cutting-edge, and is very efficient. (providing you have it in an area with decent ventilation) Put that bugger in a sealed cabinet and get ready for some trouble. (and noise)

But considering the PS3 has everything built into it - and the 360 has the Power Supply external - it is somewhat surprising that the 360 can get so noisy considering.

What are they? I have some gaming down time as my 360 is going in for service. I've thought about picking up a PS3 in the meantime, but for the life of me - can't work up the interest.

Exclusive titles could help.

Gran Tourismo, Haze, Metal Gear Solid, Warhawk and Grand Theft Auto should be a good start if you want to justify your decision to buy a PS3. I have one. And I bought it just because I will have access to those games.

However, let me clarify that PSN won't be free forever. That was stated by the president of Sony, so, don't count on the PSN to be free.

Let me add that buying a PS3 was a really good choice for me, I am having one hell of a time playing with it. Games I own, are (among others) Resistance, COD4, Warhawk, Formula 1 and Oblivion. And I play well over the internet. I think that buying a PS3 is a really good choice, since now the devs will take full advantage of the PS3's capabilities, and the XBOX has reached a certain limit (with Halo as a good example).

Why do people keep saying this? The Xbox 360 has not reached a hypothetical limit yet.

The graphical potential of the XBOX has been reached. Only minor enhancements can be made. I have a lot of technical reasons for saying this, but I don't have the time to explain. Anyway, you can look at it this way: It's been a long while since the console has been out there, and the devs have learned how to make excellent graphics with it. It's been out there for one year more than PS3, and the PS3 has some games that have equal visual quality with the XBOX even if the developers know Xbox better.

That leads me to think that in not-so-long terms the PS3 will show its real teeth. Don't get me wrong: I said that the XBOX has reached its graphical peak, not its gaming one. That means that it can have better games than now, only that they will not be as good-looking as the PS3 ones in the not-so-distant future.

And PS3 isn't expensive considering what it offers. Anyway, those are personal opinions. I may be wrong in the end.

^I guess its the same reason why people still say the PS3 is expensive...I can't understand it myself.

Bless

Are you being sarcastic, 2ny? :p

I quite agree, the PS3 is no longer overpriced.

Um... I've yet to see anything that even remotely suggests this. Have you considered that it might be because developers are using the same engine on both platforms? What's the point in making a game look better on one system if your title is multiplatform? Exactly. None. There's a gaping logical flaw in your argument right there.

Let's set aside the overall quality of games for a bit, and let's focus on graphics only. I think that the PS3 has some games that prove my point, such as Heavenly sword and Drake's Fortune. Others, like Gran Tourismo are on their way.

As far as multiplatform games are concerned, look at it this way: First of all, the developers should build their games to take full advantage of the platform they are written for, even if that means the graphics are better on one system. Since they don't have the time or the money to do so, they devote exactly the same time to look the graphics good on all systems. So, the graphics we see on any system are the graphics that the system with the lowest specifications of all supports.

Example: Colin Mc Rae Dirt. PS3 and XBOx 360 have exactly the same graphics, with the exception that the PS3 version has a better framerate (see gamespot's review). So in the same time devoted for both platforms, we see the XBox version pushed to its limits, and the PS3 version handles the same graphics as the XBox 360 (with some optimizations). But CodeMasters as any other developer, has had more time with the Xbox than with the PS3 (since it was released earlier). Therefore, the PS3's can handle Xbox's peak graphics, and it is only in its infant stages yet. Imagine what can be done in one year from now.

To sum up: By using multiplatform games as an example, I am saying that the PS3 is capable of playing every XBOX-only game available with the same graphics quality (assuming every company made a port) but this can't be done with future PS3 games on XBOX without lowering the graphics quality.

I wasn't speaking of quality, but of graphics.

If that were true, every game would be written for the Wii first and ported over. This isn't the case.

Also, I have Drake's Fortune, and... it doesn't have the best graphics. I could name plenty of games that look better.

It seems you're making a rather big assumption that companies put the same amount of effort towards each version. If this were the case, wouldn't the Orange Box on PS3 run as well as the Orange Box on the Xbox 360? It sounds like it should be, but that's not the case. And the PS3 version had extra development time.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm not saying the PS3 cannot match the Xbox 360's graphics. I simply dispute your claim that the Xbox 360 has hit a peak.

Also, checking the release dates for Colin McRae, the PS3 version was released three months later. Hardly sounds like the 'same development time' to me.

Your whole argument is based around the 360 having hit a peak, but you have yet to show it's hit one. All you're doing now is saying the PS3 can match it with a bit of extra dev time.

But you don't know if development for the PS3 started later... so you might be right, he might be right.

To say any console has 'hit their peak' only a couple of years in is silly.

Developers will continue to push ALL hardwares for their entire life duration.

The same reason games like G(od)OW 2 on PS2 looks so good compared to even the orginal G(od)OW and both games were very late into the machines life cycle.

The 360 has by no means reached a peak. We will see better and more dazzling games on both system for at least another 3 or 4 years. :)

You can save money with a PS3. Seriously.

I do. :)

Turn down the heat by 10 degrees or so, and fire up Folding @ Home. Help cure cancer / disease, and heat your home all at once. ;)

lmao. the heat that comes out of mine is always between 120-125 degrees, but it never overheats and freezes like my Elite does.

I'm being serious though. House thermostat is set to 48F. My room is currently 68F. (it's 41F outside right now - but I haven't needed to up the heat so far, and it's been down to -5F for a couple of days)

:D
