You sound like someone that just bought a worse 2015 :D have fun with tech thats outdated on first day

I bought a 2015 and 2016 at the same time, deciding which to keep and cannot agree with this statement at all.

2016 comes with outdated components day one.

It has a dated processor, but not outdated since the next generation hasnt been released yet. 2015 have 5th generation processor. 2016 have 6th, next years version get 7th generation since thats when its released.
All components in the new one are the latest available.

But the 2015 model has an even older processor ;)

From what I've read (no first hand experience), the 2016 has a slower processor, but a faster SSD. I'd look at the one that performs the best overall.

Im testing the two side by side, and both good machines. For the same price, id take the 2016, performance wise they are very close, but the 2015 I have is the 2.8.

Im upgrading from a 2012 so both are great, but alas the 2016 is £1000 over the 2015.

You have a 2012 also right? can I ask what temps it hits, mine hits 104 celsius ....thinking of changing the paste to see what happens

That processor thing is because everyone watch the geekbench instead of cpu power over time. 5th gen has higher turbo clock, but cant maintain it for long period but long enough to finish geekbench. But in videorendering the skylake win.

I will tell you to go with mid-2015. Because a lot of people are complaining about facing some issuese with MBP 2016.

No argument there, I would as well :)

I average high 30s to 40s for simple work, like using Safari, for more intensive stuff, with the fans blasting, I'm seeing about 75 to 85c.

Cheers.

Okay, I need to re-paste and see if I can fix it, mine is way too high.

Being an older computer the intake vents and fans may need some cleaning (though I never done that on mine).

Its always had high temps, and for a few years I have been saying I will do it, so this weekends task, will report back.

Also finding an excuse to keep the 2012 :) though the 2015 for £2300 is looking the goods vrs £3300 for the 2016

Man Apple must have really spiked the koolaid with some potent stuff this year... LOL

The 2016 Pluses -v- the 2015:

Screen
Sound
GPU
SSD speed
Build, size and weight

2015 Pluses -v- the 2016

Number and type of ports (no dongles needed)
SD card slot
Battery life
Price
Magsafe

Draw or you decide:

CPU (depends on which 2016 you have) The base is no better than the 2015 & worse under heavy load
Keyboard (some like it and some hate it)
TrackPad (some like it and some hate it)
Glowing Apple Logo
Touchbar (to me is a complete gimmick at the moment and it's not useful or practical)

I can go on... I get it that people need to self justify their purchase but please think before posting such nonsense...
Umm no...
I don't use any of the legacy ports on my computers and haven't for several years now. So you can scratch off the number and type of ports and SD card slot. The battery life is about the same regardless of machine for me. I was thinking the 2016 MacBook Pros would be an improvement in battery life but it's the same. MagSafe I never thought was a great idea to begin with because it had significant downsides such as the wear and tear on MagSafe is really bad as you had to wrap it around the brick and it would get frayed at the edges causing fires.

I "literally" don't care about a gimmicky glowing Apple logo that does nothing at all and I love the keyboard.

So you can put down your own kool-aid and stop living in your own bubble and realize why the new MacBook Pros are selling like hotcakes.

If I count only people I know personally, I already know five people who returned their MacBook 2016 within the two week return period ... I doubt we will ever hear official sales numbers.
I only read that the preorder numbers were high, which is only logical because there has not been any real update since 2012.

I've been waiting so much for this refresh because I'm using my old 2009 17" MacBook Pro.
I've been confused that I placed like 7 orders between 2015 and 2016 and cancelled all of them. I've read so much about the new MacBook Pros that probably I've been influenced by people having issues but I guess some of these are real especially the battery life and I could not accept to pay 4000 € for a buggy machine.
Also, I've used the Iphone 7 plus for 1 week and I miss so much the headphone jack. I'm so bothered to use the adaptor that constantly I don't have with me.
I sincerely don't want to live this transitional period on every device that I own.
I personally would only buy the new 13" Non TouchBar which I find the best deal as a primary or secondary machine.
But since I need a bigger screen and more power I went for a 15" 2015 2.8 ghz, 1 TB with Iris Pro (don't need the GPU) from the Apple Store with educational discount and saved money, patience and time.

Hahahahahaha..... I get it now... All your posts in this thread have been for comic relief and have not been serious.. Whew,,, for a minute there I was starting to wonder..

I have a 2016 TB and I agree -- it is outdated day one but that's not the point of this thread...

Umm no...

I know right? The 2015's are selling like hotcakes and Apple can't keep the refurbished units in stock for long.. Jeez, I wonder why?

I am in a similar boat as some one on here who is coming from the 2012. I have to say the keyboard is better the track pad is amazing the screen is great. The battery life has been a mixed bag of tricks. I am almost always on power so I can not comment on that.

Issues so many issues with my 2016

Graphics tearing on boot = Filevault2 issue
sound dropping out = reboot to fix
random Kernel Panic = Time Machine issue (per apple reading my logs)
Not wanting to charge randomly = I had to sleep wake the machine to get it to charge.

This is all on top of giving up ports which I am 100% ok with and it costing marginally more (Though I argue that is largely due to piss poor performing y series graphics thanks to intel. thus all machines had to have a DGPU.)

I am seriously considering returning it and getting a 2015 retina refurb. My 2012 is already gone and sold so I am a bit left in a lurch. I never expected to be in this mind set after buying a brand new apple laptop that is truly not innovative (IE noting technically is vastly new still intel chipset still similar thermals etc. ) ((Yes the machine has touch bar but that is fundamentally not causing all these screw ups, the iterative changes which should be straight forward are. ))

I am disappointed. I think once everything is ironed out this will hands down blow any previous model out of the water. That being said I am currently not seeing the why I should retain this machine versus revert to the old design or upend my whole apple cart and get a MacBook escape.

I really feel like apple just flat out fumbled the ball here. They are not even publicly owning the issues instead they are deflecting. That is I know the apple way but come on. The heat needs to stay on them it seems to get this stuff fixed.

Let me get this straight you have not used USB ports for a few years ?

The battery life is not the same . Sorry unless you do very little with your Machine at low brightness it does not match the 2015.

Also you have zero proof to say they are selling like hotcakes, that is not fact.

^^ Agree!

It's an excuse and while USB C only in the new machines does not really bother me that much the loss of the SD card slot does.. I generally keep an SD card inserted 24/7...

Yeah, my 2016 base TB is getting about 6 hours...

The 2015 models are indeed selling like hotcakes! I often check the Apple refurbished section for deals and there are no 13" 2015's to be found = out of stock! As soon as Apple posts them they are gone! If you want a 2015 refurbished you need to check Apples site a few times a day and then get lucky... The 2016's selling like hotcakes? Not so much...

The sales figures are not published however the lag between order and deliver is still very high thus it appears from the outside they are selling in vastly large numbers.

The battery life is crummy but do we 100% know it is due to design failure or is it software failure. The jury in my book is still mostly out. This is not due to some magical knowledge. Apple has just had a track record of meeting the battery life test of Walt Mossberg. They failed this year for a first time in a very long time. I have to wonder did they just decide to bolt face lie or was in there testing it was working right and when they went out to the field some software was changed.

This is again not an excuse but a question. I would bring them up on charges but not convict them just yet. They have a narrow window in my mind to make it right or to provide a reason they screwed up so badly and offer some sort of partial refund or return like they did with the iPhone 4 bumper case.

Not so sure about the whole supply and demand and backorder thing.. My local Apple Store has all the 2016's versions in stock and ready for pickup today as far as the 13" version goes..

I walked in and picked up my 13" TB on the spot whereas the Apple online store store said 2-3 weeks for delivery..

yeah markets will vary. I can not walk up and walk out with a 15 localy. I can get a 13 base all day long. I can also not get a 7+ in any color. The watch forget about it they are sold out till next year it seems. So I would say for one reason or another the supply is constrained. Tim is not building that many to keep demand tight and not end up with large inventory. The products don't scale well. That does not fly for the phone or the watch as the case did not change. The laptop maybe it is all new. The last option is these things are indeed just selling out faster then they can make them at scale thus selling like hot cakes.

So the poster was not off base with this statement. Was he correct. We will know about WWDC time when get updated numbers on the install base of the touchbar from Tim.

Disagree... If something is selling like hotcakes that infers you can't get it or have a hard time getting it.. That new Nintendo game emulation system? Yup, that's selling like hotcakes.. The 2016 MBP? Nope, not when you can walk in the store and back out 5 minutes later with one in hand..
