Except the screen. But it sounds like you like the Asus. Go for it! If you have to make a thread asking if you should keep a laptop, you probobaly will not be happy with it if you keep it.

But I'm scared about the Asus, too. It could be too heavy, too slow for the HDD, too keyboard crappy and stuff.

I hate how Apple just makes me mad with every MacBook xD it's all against me! LOL

If the cMBP had a better screen (matte but with normal res) I would have gone for it for sure, but in this case...

The problem with the Retina is ironically the screen! It is just bad not to have the possibility to view contents at full size. When I make a video I need to know how it looks at pixel-native res. The Retina scales everything! And for this reason it lags, too.

Personally, I would stay away from Windows becase I know that there are just too many potential issues. Also, if you need matte but normal res, think 13" Air. However, that may not work b/c of video, but still something to think about.

Finally, lag is a software issue--for the most part. Hope for success with 10.8.3.

Threads like this are a losing battle...

OP if you like the Asus machine and want to give it a whirl, go for it! I mean in all seriousness your in an Apple based Forum within the Macbook Threads asking if you should get an Asus because your unhappy with your rMBP. What would you expect to hear other then go give it a try if your not happy with what you have.

IMO there's no comparison, and that's coming from someone who's owned both

So the regular non hi res 1440x900 will look better. Okay, does the hi res glossy have the black bezel? Does the anti-glare have the black bezel?

High-res glossy: black bezel
High-res anti-glare: silver bezel (Macbook Air)

Back to me... What do I do? LOL

Your options are:
Asus
cMBP 13
cMBP 15
rMBP

If you feel like these problems are manageable and will get better (they will) then stick with the awesome machine you have now.

I would say not to make the switch to Windows, because moving and getting used to a different OS is always hard and problematic.

If you want these problems to be solved immediately, but don't mind a heavier and thicker body with a worse screen and a slow hard drive, switch to cMBP.

If you game or need a dedicated graphics chip and more power, get the 15". Otherwise, get the 13".

Good luck.

If you're not thrilled with what you bought then you should return it. I personally don't need retina since I will be using an external monitor 80% to 90% of the time. The weight and thickness are a non issues for me but storage and memory are. I value the ability to upgrade the RAM and SSD (having choices) over retina. For the few times that I will be away from my desk it won't matter what the screen looks like besides, before the retina came out everyone used to praise how great the MBP screens were. Now all of a sudden if you believe everything you read around here, they magically began to suck. Granted if you put them side by side you'll see a difference. If you don't, you don't know what your missing :D

You can update SSD on the rMBP with an SSD from OWC. Expensive, but the prices will go down. I agree that if you've never had the retina before, you don't know the difference, but OP has been using a retina for a while now. As such, I say there is no going back (color reproduction, eye fatigue, etc)

Windows is not extrange to me. I used it since 2006. And I'd say that for some things is better. There's a wider range of software and games.

Any windows latop will be better in some things (specs and price) while worse in others (build quality, trackpad, keyboard, customer service, aesthetics). Go with the computer that you will most enjoy.

That's the problem, my dear b. I have no idea! LOL

The thing now is between the Asus and my Retina, because I understood I just cannot downgrade to a cMBP now.

Yes, that's why I said (having choices) ;)

Also depends on how sensitive he is towards the retina display. I have read comments from others who returned an rMBP for a cMBP and said that after a couple days it didn't matter. But not everyone is like that. I haven't even looked at anything later than an iPad 2 because I enjoy mine so much but I'm fairly certain that once I see a retina iPad I'll want it :)

I would stick with the Retina. But that, of course, is just my preference.

Sincerely no. I don't really know what do to.

If I choose to change it for a cMBP I am afraid of getting a laptop which is heavier, with a worst screen and slower. At the same time I'd be indecise if putting a high res screen or standard one. The standard one is glossy but the high res has too small fonts and stuff...

With the Asus I would save a lot but I am not sure about it. I mean, I would loose Mac OS, while on a Mac I can get windows.

Seriously have no idea of what to do. If the retina didn't lag it was different. But it is a shame to have a 2.000$ pc which lags in everything. I want performance, not this stuff. And all the regular res stuff looks blurry which is crappy too.

HARDEST CHOICE EVER!

I hope you can wait for 10.8.3 to be released see if that helps with the lag--it really should and I hope it does!

I have only 5 days left. If apple doesn't release it before Tuesday, I just cannot test anything.

Lags everything? Have you gone to Apple and tried running the stuff you usually run on one of the display units?

My cousin just got a 2013 15in rMBP on Sunday and says he see's absolutely zero lag on his machine, and this is a guy who's running tons of stuff at one time...Plus he has Parallels running as well.

I have a 13in retina and have seen no lag either from day one.

So when you say a $2k machine that lags everything, that sounds like totally the opposite of what were seeing on our machines.
