Should I keep this iPhone? (story)

Just give it to the police, let them do the rest. If police station is too far away, give to any bus driver next time you are on the bus. Tell them you were going to go to the police but didn't have the time. Let the bus driver decide whether to keep it or not :D

Than I'll call you a scumbag. If you really believed in karma, than you would also believe in the fact that karma would get back on him in a different way. If Topic Starter is going to do things on his own, than he's no better than the person who lost his phone.

Again, if you really believed in karma, than you would also believe in the fact that karma would get back on him. Perhaps he will drop his iPhone in the toilet after Topic Starter returned it to him.

Also, I can see why you think people are scumbag when they are racist/homophoic/agressive/disrespectful, but that last thing "foul language" also very much depends on the place.

A good example is for example to compare the United Kingdom and the United States to other European countries like the Netherlands, Germany or Belgium. While it is completely unacceptable to swear in public in the UK and in some extend the US, and music and TV films and series are 'censored' (beep sound) in both countries, no one in for example the Netherlands really cares when you swear in public. When watching Dutch television, you will hear swearing on a lot of channels and it's just "normal".

So here I get back again to my previous post (not directed to you): you can't expect others to live up to your 'rules', 'regulations' and expectations. Everyone has a different culture and it's not up to you to decide whether or not something is good or bad.

(And again, if you really believe in karma, than YOU do the right thing and karma will do the rest).

Like said 1000x before. Being a d-bag doesn't mean he deserves to have his stuff stolen or broken. Because I am 100% certain that if it was 1 of our phones (for the people that commented on this topic) you would be pissed off too that someone took your phone. No matter what the tone of conversation was, it was not the OP business anyway not was it his property to take. No matter if he cussed out the old lady or even said he was gonna smack down the chick on the phone. IT'S STILL NOT HIS BUSINESS. And don't tell me that if it was any of you that had someone take YOUR phone you wouldn't be livid. Your plain as day lying your butt off.

Just listening to some of the posters here make me embarrassed to respond to some of this. Makes you just as bad as a criminal. Who ever thinks he should wipe the info, smash it, or throw it away. He should have picked it up and gave it to the bus driver and told him a man left it behind. Does not matter if the guy was arrogant or not. Still NOT HIS PROPERTY.

If YOU lost your iphone, would you want the finder to return it to you, or ask other people whether to return it based on his/her opinion of you?

You can look at this statement both ways...

An individual who is rude, showed no respect and courtesy to others, and did not care how others feel... So he must not want any favours from others.

If I lost my phone, I would want whoever found it to wipe all my data (protect my privacy, destroy my SIM (so expensive LD calls by strangers) and turn it to the police (I have the packaging with serial no to prove the phone is mine).
 
Alright moral police, if the OP embellished the story and made it seem like the owner was a dick than sure we are being misled, and finding a phone doesn't make him a thief. He didn't pick it up out of the guys pocket. He simply found it.
Ultimately OP it's your decision. If the guy was truly a d-bag then enjoy, if you feel guilty about it take it to the police and wait 30 days but who knows if a cop could just claim it. Donate it, sell it, keep it or give it back, do what you think is right.

Yeah even though the guy was a total ass I didn't think keeping it was right, but giving it back face to face would be a worse feeling.

So, it went to the local police station.
"First time one of these has been handed in" says the officer. :D

If he doesn't claim it I get it back after a period of time.
Then it goes to someone who actually deserves it, don't know who yet. :)
 
The way people are voting up posts that recommend keeping the phone (or worse, harassing the guy) and voting down posts that say to return it doesn't surprise me. Sad state of society we live in...

It's curious, when somebody posts this kind of stuff like: I found a new Iphone, should I keep it? Everybody calls you:

A THIEF
ITS NOT MORAL
RETURN IT
GO TO THE POLICE
GO TO APPLE

But this guy (The OP), tells the whole story of this guy and his "not coolness", making everybody in the forum say "Keep it". It's kind of funny, you keep the Iphone because you hate the guy, even if it doesn't belong you, HE HAD IT COMING.

Don't get me wrong, i'd keep the phone even if some granny lost it, but you guys?, look for some other threads and check this behaviour, Oh Internet!!!

I can't believe all the dishonest douche bags on this forum. I don't care how big a jerk someone is stealing is stealing is stealing is stealing. I really feel sorry for any of you that said anything other than return the phone to the owner or police. YOU are what's wrong with society today and I hope each and every one of you have items lost/stolen and not returned.

OP, if you need to tell us all how honest you are something tells me you're not as honest as you want us to believe. It's similar to the racist telling us how many black people he's friends with just before telling a racist story/joke.

Was the guy a jerk? Yes he was. Bottom line it was not your phone. You did the right thing. If he claims it, it's his. If not you get an IPhone. Bottom line.......you did the right thing. And that is what counts.

Hypocrite much? You're basically preaching that two wrongs don't make a right (I.e. stealing from a douche is still stealing), but then you say you hope everyone who said to steal it gets their own stuff stolen....

I've never seen such hypocrisy. :rolleyes:

Bah.

I would have absolutely no issue keeping it and selling it on ebay. People like that are wastes of my space, air, food, and gas, and I certainly don't want them using my bandwith.

This^ If the people cheering on the "keep it" team lose something or have something stolen maybe they won't be so fast to say keep it..... but if they think it's ok to steal they'll most likely always think it's ok..... when it doesn't happen to them that is.

I work with inmates and it's funny to see a lot of the same rational THEY use to justify their illegal activity is being used in this thread.

This would not be stealing. However (in NY where I work), possession of LOST property can be an arrest able offense (such as in this situation). I say bring it to pd (phone turned off). Let them decide what to do with it.

You said that everyone who said that deserves to get their devices stolen.

How can you not see the similarities there? :p they're both clearly related to bad karma.

I would show all his sweeties the texts from other sweeties. I would tell all the women in the English bloat's life about each other, tell them this fake Mickie D's worker lives at home with his parents. All he is good for is trying to get into your nickers, he don't care he thinks having one at home as a back up is always good. I would get my sister to call and ask for him saying he my baby daddy and I'm preggo. Where can I find him I got his cell phone when he was porking my mother and I caught him. Took his phone and waited a few days to make him think he lost it. And then post pics of him around town saying this wanker thinks he can get any woman I have his phone I'm the prostatute he was with when he left it at my hotty spotty and still owes me money. Karma is a bitch.
