Tonight, I might have a chance to get a G5 processor from a friend, who wants to dissassemble his iMac G5 and sell it for parts (he's going to buy a 24" iMac C2D). Should I replace the G4 processor in my iBook G4 with a G5?.
I really want to do this and show off with this (if successful) in the public.

Is Your Life Insurance Current?

That's an excellent idea. Make sure your life insurance is current. :D

Not possible.

Two significantly different chips and chipsets. A G4 logic board cannot be economically retrofitted to take a G5 CPU - it's never been done and probably never will be (although I'd like to see that proven wrong). Plus, the G5 is too hot and power-hungry for laptop use.

Even if it was possible and you did pull it off, have some eggs nearby so you can cook them on the laptop. I think that there was a reason we never say a Powerbook G5, probably because of the whole heat issue thing.

I don't care about the heat, I just want to be successful with this. Maybe I'll be famous if this was successful. In a few minutes, I am going to call my friend and tell him I am going to buy the G5 processor.

did you not read the posts that said this was physically impossible?

The fact that you're asking if its possible means its not possible.
Have fun anyway, I suppose.

You won't succeed, and you won't be famous :]

It's just not going to happen unless you design your own logic board for the machine, and if you can do that... get a job working for Apple.

Just talked with my friend and the G5 is on its way:D . I have my tools in the garage and ready to get them when the G5 arrives.

Try it definitely... let us know how every screw goes please!
and ask for help if needed;) oh... and some pics please

Ok:rolleyes:

Either

1) Your not the brightest person out there

2) You think the world's only problem is that people don't try, and that anything can be done if you only try hard enought

3) You can't read, and can only right

4) Your lieing, and know this won't happen, possible you don't even have the iBook or G5 chip to do it with

I'm going with #3 as long as you mean "write";) , and of course #1

1. That would be 'write', not 'right'.

2. That would be 'lying', not 'lieing'. ;)

BTW, in his case I think it is No. 1.
