In the meantime, I'll study more about the iBook G4's motherboard and how to modify it to fit a G5 processor.

You have my full support in this. Here are some things I think you might want to consider during your attempts :

1) The tachyon inverter on the G4 has an amplitude which is 0.0045 terramotes out of phase with the G5. You will have to somehow compensate for this - maybe a Garn-Heinen bridge if you have the parts?

2) As any fule kno, the quantum spin of the iBook's case is DIRECTLY PERPENDICULAR to the Boseine capacity of the G5's heatsink.

3) If push comes to shove, try reversing the polarity of the flux capacitor.

Ignore all the haters on here. They are just jealous morons who do not recognise technical genius when they see it.

Good luck and I hope you remember me when you are famous and having sexual relations with such babes as recently-separated Reese Witherspoon, the star of such classics as "Cruel Intentions" and producer of the upcoming magical fantasy, "Penelope".

This might be the best post I've seen on this forum...or any forum...this year.

That chick is hotter than a G5 in a iBook!

I am a person who thinks anything is possible in technology, but people don't want to try this.
Bad News: My friend came with the G5 processor and told me not to do it. He said it would damage the computer. Now, he doesn't want to give the G5 processor to me. What should I do?

GOOD NEWS is that is a true friend, trying to save your money. Both with the Chip and the iBook, way to go friend.....

I am not German and people say I look Italian (12 people).
Meanwhile, I talked long and hard about the G5 upgrade with my friend and my friend said I should get the whole iMac G5 from him. It would save me the hassle he said.

This is one of the more interesting threads I've seen in a while :D.

As long as he gets his money and you get your G5, what should he care?

There's this one forum member, elisha cuthbert (dunno if it's really her), who states that he/she has an iBook G5 in his/her sig. I PMed elisha and asked if it was a typo, but never got a response.

Otherwise known as a techno-fantasist, who has an amazing capacity to deny or ignore reality.

You should not do it.

Your friend is right, you will fry both the iBook and the G5.

Okay, so you know that putting that G5 processor in there isn't going to work, right? And he's offering to just give you the iMac G5 for free? Well sure it would save you hassle! You'd have a working iBook G4 and a free iMac G5!

My friend left now with the G5 processor and said tomorrow he's going to give me the iMac G5. He said he doesn't need to sell the iMac G5 anymore. He really doesn't want to see the iBook G4 being hurt. My friend had used the iBook G4 many times before (on the road) and it helped him a lot during those times.
He said it would be devastating for him if this G5 upgrade failed. I still love my iBook G4 along with the MacBook.

the grammar nazi comment was geared to davidjearly, and as a joke.

I think you could have saved yourself and others time by actually reading the posts, not just skimming over them.

The iMac G5 would be a great thing to get. Damn good machine. My friend just got one to replace his dead eMac, and he loves it.

Now I really want to do this again. How about I remove the G4 Processor from the iBook G4 and put it in the iMac G5 (to make run cooler, at least)? And the infamous line: To put a G5 Processor in the iBook G4. My attempt to do this is growing on me again, even after the talk with my friend.

absolutely brilliant post. I nominate it for post of the year (whenever we have the awards)! :D :D

Or you could cut your losses (if there are any ) and be happy that you will eventually have a working iBook G4 and "new" iMac G5. I don't know why you cannot understand but it is not going to work. If Apple could've put a G5 processor into the iBook (or Powerbook, which would be even more likely) and have it run fine with no heat problems, they would have.

you should really try it, but quick question how big the g5 board compared to the g4 board? post pic please

Get him drunk, and take it from him.

Just make sure you use a big enough glob of flux and solder to help make that G5 fit into the G4's old home.

And have a fire extinguisher handy when you turn the machine on for the first time, or you risk burning the house to the ground.

You guys do know that this is the same guy who made a thread about his "rich friend" who was going to buy a Mac Pro 3GHz Xeon, Quadro FX 4500, 16GB of RAM, and 2 23" Cinema displays, and use it for...gaming, and to compliment his 17" MBP.

I'm calling BS on this one.

Here's his other thread: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/283463/
