Yeah i can live with my 7.9 inch screen that has nice res and great colors, did you enjoy having a tiny, way under what other companies had for screen size on the iphone for what 5 years? I know i didn't and sold my 4s for a bigger screen with lower res but go read some reviews on the 900 and see that res is not everything no matter what year it is. It i a bigger screen but lower res and looks great, I have had people with iphones even say how bright and nice my screen looks.

If you think it's nice res then I don't know what else to say haha. Glad you like it. I prefer my text sharp not pixelated and blurry.

I have been using this little mini for most of the day and I have new opinion. The screen is ok and is good enough for anyone who doesn't care about a retina display. My issue so far is that I kind of prefer the size of my iPad2. The mini is awesome in the portability category and is so light. I just can't get comfortable with the size even though typing is easier.

My iPhone pretty much gets me through just about everything I need on an instant basis so the mini is pretty much my attempt at even more portability and keeping the iPad apps handy. I may go to the store and play with the iPad 4 just to see what the screen is really all about. Being a tech nut... I like it when something is small light and useful.... but this mini is just confusing me.

Strange how you get used to a certain form factor and then you go smaller and it just feels wrong. Beautiful device and I really like it but I am having reservations if I like it enough to keep it. Lets see how I feel after having it for a day or two side by side of my iPad 2.

No way - man.
Use the v4 - it's the best out there.
Why settle for so much less?

yes- the smaller/lighter ipad will be the device of the future.
The future is still 6-12 months.

then sell the v4 and get the mini.

Agreed ha. I'm giving it to my Mom. I'm sure she will love it as we'll. I love my iPad 4 :)
I like my iPad 4 too. :) It's nice having the latest isn't it? =)

If the iPad 5 is so much different I can always sell my 4 to get the 5. But we'll see. :L

Of course it isn't. But the resolution is bad. Pixels are easily noticeable. Otherwise the screen is ok but still a step down from the iPad 4. If you want to settle for $329 then be my guest. Im just telling it like it is.

You might be able to live with the screen but in 2012 the screen is bad.

These posts just crack me up. You do realize that this scren has significantly higher ppi than the screen on apple's top of the line iPad as of 8 months ago, right?

It's apple's own fault, of course - they've talked up "retina" to the point that people are actually describing 164 ppi as "unusable" (another thread). Patently ridiculous, of course, but apple has created this monster.

lol well said, makes me wonder how I have lived with my 1920x1080 HD tv's and computer monitors for all these years thinking how great they looked lol. Or any of my old droid phones that had nice screens.

Can't wait for the day a retina iMac comes out and my 2011 is deemed "crap to look at" or whatever. I currently have an iPad 2 and iPhone 5, and yes I can see the difference but it's not exactly like it makes my iPad hard to use or anything. My devices with non-retina screens serve me very well, even though I appreciate the nice crisp screen on my phone. :)

I couldn't used the iPad or iPad 2 due to the pixelated screen. Has nothing to do with marketing for me. I'm typing this from my iPad mini right now. I love the size, the weight, the build quality, but the screen sucks. It's pixelated and blurry. Much lower quality than my 4 which I'm about to use

Just curious - how long ago did you start using computers? I once had a 14" iBook at the same resolution as the 8" mini. Now that was pushing it, but it was still a very "usable" computer. I'm not saying I don't like higher res - I do. It's great that we've gotten here. But let's keep some perspective. The fact that you can discern individual pixels may be sub-optimal, and it may be reason enough for you to not use your mini. But only by the most recent, demanding standards could a ppi of 164 be considered crap

I guess my point is just that a lot of people seem to think that anything that is at all sub-optimal is crap or unusable, and I think there's a very wide space between optimal and unusable.

I've been using computers awhile. Have had 1080p monitors for awhile though and before that using the MacBook Air. Didn't love that screen either but for a tablet the Mini screen doesn't cut it. Everything else about it is amazing though.

Don't do it. It's a downgrade. I just came from the Apple store and there is a huge difference in the screen. Why treat you eyes to a bad experience?

The screen is bad. Anyone who says anything else is kidding themselves. A tablet is one thing-a screen. Th iPad mini screen sucks to out it bluntly.

Blah.. blah.. my iMac is one thing-a screen.

The iPad mini screen is better than my iMac, my MacBook Pro, my iPad 1, all my PC laptops, and all my 10 monitors.

I bought the iPad mini over the iPad 3 & 4 because I know I'll get a lot more use out of the iPad mini.

The retina screen on the iPad 3 is amazing.
But I'll get a lot more use out of the iPad Mini, I'm pretty sure.

As everyone says, it's a decision you have to determine for yourself. I was interested in the mini, but the resolution was a deal breaker for me. For me, the size is less important than the resolution.

Besides, it's not like the regular iPad is that large. Sometimes I'm amazed at how small it is.

Choose mini if you see yourself mostly using it when out and about.

Choose 4 if it is going to be used primarily at home.

Tell you though if it were me I'd pick the 4 because its a much more mature product while the mini is a 1st gen product they are definitely holding back features for the mini this gen.

Only way this guy is getting an iPad mini is when it gets the A6 or better. Personally the screen isnt a deal breaker for me, however holding on to an older processor is.

What would be nice is for Apple to offer some keyboard functionality because right now the keyboard is terrible. Either you have to use the excessively large keyboard or the excessively small keyboard.

You keep talking yourself into believing that :). You must have some antiquated equipment if this screen looks good to you. I love the Mini except for the screen but that's 95% of the tablet experience.

The screen is 95% of the tablet experience? No sure what you mean by that.

I don't use it just to watch porn and view websites.

I'm think 95% of the tablet experience is the iOS, its apps, and its integration with the MacOS/iOS ecosystem.

I do web development so I look at text and images all day long. If I'm fine with my MacBook Pro screen, I'm more than happy with the iPad Mini screen since the iPad Mini screen looks better than my MacBook Pro screen.

I meant the screen is the tablet. The apps are great but they appear so fuzzy and small to me that it renders the mini useless.

I am glad it works for you but it doesn't for me. I just expect more from a premium Apple product. You have to admit the screen is lacking even if you can deal with its limitations.

First of all to people talking specs...they are more than capable of powering the mini. I have probably used it for around 6 hours today and love the size, but I have to agree it is not the easiest on the eyes. I'm going to go play around with a 4 tomorrow morning to really see what is best for me. I know I will mostly use it at home browsing the web. No doubt a great device, but 1.5 pounds of an iPad 4 is not a burden of any kind. I recently sold my Air since it was virtually an expensive web browser so the 4 may make more sense to me.

well, after a trip to the apple store, my ipad 4 is going back unopened for a mini.

The screen looks great to me on the mini. Not quite retina, but really really good. I currently have an ipad 2, iphone 5, and 21" imac. I think the mini will be better than all of them except the iphone (and I'll probably sell the old ipad).

the ipad 4, on the other hand, has a deal breaking issue: the heat. Not just mine (which I haven't opened), but all of the ones in the apple store. I bought an ipad 3 and returned it because of heat, and boy, they have not fixed the issue. It might be worse. It's noticable to the touch, and it bugs the heck out of me.

I know the ipad 4 heat is probably not an issue at all for some, and to you I say, enjoy in good health! Similarly, the mini screen is not an issue at all for me, and I will enjoy (hopefully in good health!). There's no perfect ipad for me at this point, but the mini is going to come closer, and I'll reevaluate in generations to come. :)

Apple only makes premium products. But they cheaper out on the screen for this version.

Even BMW makes a base model. And guess what, it doesn't come with leather seats. Same concept.

I'm sure Apple will eventually update it as the tech becomes feasible and cost effective, but for now you have to realize you're buying the low priced option, even if it's a premium brand.
