I will plan a full clean reinstall of this build cause I will opt out endless beta update loop.

And it is purely up to you.

My suggestion is, however, keeping iOS and OS X in same build set. In this case, iOS 9.1 and El Capitan 10.11.1 is in same build set. Both have features up to date, and both have their corresponding fixes.

One mac won't even connect to the app store and my other is stuck in a seemingly endless updating your mail database

Not impressed at all with al crapitan . Sorry but my faith in Apple died along with Steve.

10.11.1 fixed Office for me but broke Preview. It was the first time Preview had worked for me in literally years, but now it crashes all the time.

Yes
No excitement when I updated. Everything still seems to work, including iTunes 10.4.
If I had any reason to, I'd re-update to 10.11.1 in a New York Second.

since this isn't a widespread issue , I would blame your software configuration instead of Apple ...

I think the update went wrong for me somewhere as now all my apps are either broken or just not there (very annoying).

First time I've ever had an issue with OSX currently midway through a time machine restore after a clean install of 10.11.1...wished I'd of waited now as I've just had an email saying my new SSD has been shipped could of just started from scratch.

Ok, thanks will update at relatives house on 'unlimited' broadband.

You dont know how to prevent the iphone downloading automatically do you? that was nearly 250 MB 'unauthorised' no choice download.

Mail still not working with update. spent 8 hours online trying to fix with Apple engineers at Cupertino, no luck, what is going on?
Going back to Yosemite, had enough

I should mention, I did encounter a minor Mail issue. The first time I tried to send an email, a box popped up telling me I didn't have an outgoing SMTP server. (The preference somehow reverted to "none" rather than to my SMTP server.) As soon as I selected it in the dropdown menu, all was well.
