SHOULD I UPDATE TO 10.11.1?

Well, if you depend on TM "just working" don't upgrade to 10.11.1 (or to El Cap at all) until you know it's been fixed.

RE not depending on TM, I've had TM fail me (unreadable or otherwise unusable backups) several times over the past many years as have others. I use CCC for automatic nightly backups of my main user directory and periodic whole-system backups. If I really REALLY need something snap-shot saved every hour I rig up a script to do that. TM just hasn't been reliable for me. I fell back from El Cap to Mavericks because of other issues (Mail, odd Screen Sharing behavior, annoyingly-sluggish GUI response, etc.). It still feels like a beta release.

Thanks for your reply, I had updated to 10.11.1 before reading your reply (my impatience) I'll fire up my MacBook Pro when I get home and see if it automatically backs up to TC. Will update.

Apple needs to move fast with 10.11.2 as they are reading all these problems and especially with the installer performance.

Okay, fired up rMacBook Pro 2015 and it connected automatically to TC and backed up no problems.

All seems well. Touch wood.

Please note though I am not a 'power user' (although I have Parallels & 3 Windows OS with Office etc on the Mac)

My cMBP was working perfectly under 10.11.0; I updated to 10.11.1 and had my very first random crash and spontaneous reboot. It has only happened once so far; if happens again, back to 10.11.0 for me.
 
Day two on 10.11.1. No problems at all so far. The problematic Mail, Preview and App Store others have experienced are all working perfectly here.
 
I have a 2012 15-inch MBP .. I don't like playing around with the operating system .. I'm not too computer savy, either ..

I am very happy with how the computer runs and have no complaints ..

should I upgrade to Max OS X?!?

After a clean install iTunes 12.3.1 now works. I used the App Store to update iTunes, no longer the stand-alone installer from Apple. (Update: The cause for this issue was the APSD daemon that was stopped.)

Most serious bug I've found so far is the unmounting/ejecting of devices and shares in the Finder. This operation is completely broken and just doesn't work anymore. I have to use the command line to do so. (Update: I've seen this behavior on multiple Macs but it's not generally reproducible. Restarting the Mac will probably be the workaround.)

Overall the system doesn't feel finished.

mid2010 MBP not working well with 10.11.1
Oddly enough, it was working very well with 10.11 and better than 10.10 or 10.9
Disappointing to say the least.

what problems are you experiencing? i have the same year MBP also running 10.11.1 and i have no issues.
 
Getting a lot of beach balls. Safari has been very laggy at times, delays opening pages, or some pages not showing up altogether. Another example, I had spotify running and it wouldn't allow me to stop the song, end up having to force quit it. Overall just seems like it's not running as light and smoothly as 10.11 was when I first d/l it. Like I said, it's odd as 10.11 was excellent for me and a massive improvement over 10.10 and 10.9...
 
I had to go on another forum for help , apple help is useless - have a nice day and all that drivel

I'm using internet recovery to go back to Yosemite .. very very pi6565d off - never had so many problems in over 20 years of mac usage - not even with panther !! ( which was very buggy )

You can keep el crapitan and all the new cook crap , watches - cars what next handbags or aeroplanes ?
 
I waited for 10.11.1 before diving in, and part of me wishes I'd waited longer.
I had to sort out Mail... several accounts were borked and needed serious attention, along with reentering account passwords. It seems to be working now, but I'm not totally sure yet.

Messages went south and did't work for a day. It may have been an Apple server problem, but Messages wouldn't accept my Apple ID after the upgrade. It's back now though. I had to boot into safe mode and activate Messages there. After rebooting into El Capitan the activation stuck, luckily.

EtreCheck becomes unresponsive if I try to expand the results window. Have to force-quit.

Handbrake isn't acting properly, so I'm hoping for an update soon.

My USB 3/ eSATA card is working, thankfully.

I guess it's a wash. It's working with some effort, but some things seem worse for wear.

Oh, and Disk Utility is now handicapped. What the hell is Apple thinking?
