I'm running it on an iPad Mini which has the same internals as the iPad 2 and Safari SUCKS - lots of page reloading, and it slows and crashes on pages with a lot of JavaScript (including amusingly Apple's own page for setting up an AppleID).

Other than that it's fine but if I can downgrade I would.

I did a review of iOS 8 on the iPad 2 on another site: http://www.mactalk.com.au/content/atrticle-ipad-2-ipad-just-won-t-die-3537/

That may help people?

Thanks for the article. It was really helpful. I pre-ordered an iphone 6 and upgraded my ipad2 to ios8, thinking there'd be a lot of useful features with both being on the same ios. So far, I kinda wished I had waited until some of the bugs were worked out. It is very laggy and slooooooww.

I'm not one to come in here and start bitching about how Apple is this and that, and how they've fallen apart, etc. I was surprised when ios8 was supported on the ipad2. It's not fair to expect it to be snappy and smooth as it's an older device so I expected some performance issues. I've gone in and tweaked settings/apps, etc to try and give it some help but it's still struggling at the moment #

After using the touch ID on the iphone6 for a few days, I decided I definately want the same on my next ipad. Hoping the new, as yet unanounced, ones will have this feature. Either way, I will upgrade to a newer device sometime this fall.

I'm going to try the things you suggested in the article, and re-install as new and hope that helps until I get the new precious.

Stupid question alert: I setup from a backup. If I re-install ios8 and setup as new, do I have to then re-input all my settings, and re-download all of my apps (restoring from backup just transfers all of this which is so f'n cool)? Can't remember the last time I setup as new, but it seems I put in my icloud ID and those settings transferred but I had to re-download all of my apps.

I downloaded IOS 8 on Saturday onto my iPad 2 and have noted a significant loss in battery life. I suppose I need to go into settings and turn some stuff off?

Check your apps. I haven't installed iOS 8 yet on my iPad 2 but did update some apps. Couldn't figure out why my battery loss had increased until I noticed that some of those app updates turned on location services.

Changed the app settings and things are back to normal.

Waiting to see what 8.1 will fix, especially as it relates to the way photos are handled.

no, no,no!

Woundering if I can update without slowing things way down. I know continuity won't work with my Mac. Are there any advantages?

I did it with my wife's ipad2 and iPad mini, and it messed them up big time. I tried to get it put back to 7.1.2 and it wont let me. Now the wife is pissed. I don't know what to do. I had to do a hard re-set and had to reinstall ios8 acouple of times, but it is still real slow and Facebook is messed up (where she spends alot of her time) while on the iPad. Anyone know what to do. I followed the instructions on idownload but it says not supported.

If you backed up your IPad to the computer with IOS 7 then your ok. If you did not back up first then your screwed and can't delete 8 and reload 7 from the computer with the backup. I hope that helps.

Loaded iOS 8 on the family iPad 2 after doing a complete wipe and pleasantly surprised. Noticed some minor lag, minor loss in battery efficiency, but and loving Family Share, messaging and notifications. If you need to use the iPad 2 off power for long periods of time and none of the iOS 8 features are killer, I'd skip it. For our use, where the iPad is primarily kept in the living room as a media and comms device, used about 6 hours max per day, iOS 8 was well worth the minor lag/battery issues.

iPad 2

I had updated my iPad 2 over the weekend to the new iOS 8 and now on the top left corner it says NO SERVICE. I still have a wifi connection at home but it just says NO SERVICE. I tried resetting my iPad and it goes back to the full bar with the att logo and then it says NO SERVICE again. Is there a solution to this problem???

Downloaded it when it came out , after a few hours of use it was so laggy it was awful so spent the next day finding a way of restoring to 7.1.2ipsw ,which I have kept a copy of just in case.

I guess am asking should I update or just leave it?
I don't want any issues its my younger daughters so it's not that big of a deal.
I would like to send voice messages tho.
Thx

A few people are having problems with IOS8 on the IPad 2. Be sure to back it up to ITunes if you are going to update. That way if you do not like 8 you can restore the backup with a computer from ITunes. Hope that helps.
