Thats a good one btw, i feel this apple product does not retain its value very good. I would just wait till the new one comes around, even if you dont want the new one you can get the gen 3 brand new for 100 USD less or more, and the refurbs will be even cheaper.

I agree. It has to have about the worst resale value of any product Apple has put out. It is rather disappointing to be honest.

Compared to The other smart watches on the market, they _don’t_ even touch the Apple Watch in terms of resale value. You may not necessarily get a top dollar for the most premium model with the Stainless or ceramic, as even the aluminum model sells for similar price points used, but The Apple Watch is that one device that’s a superflurous tech device that many don’t need either.

Next question - is best buy known to have the new apple watches on launch day? There's one right next to my work, so I would love to be able to grab one during lunch or something if possible.

WAIT!.. series 3 are already down to 250-300 depending size. Series 2 (just sold min at 190$) are going to get even better deals with new release.

If you LIKe the new one, it won't be more $$ than current models, and the series 3 GPS will be closer to 200-250$ new depending on size.

It depends. Some Best Buy’s might have them in stock, others may not. My Best Buy stores have had launch day items from Apple in stock, very limited in quantity, but they may not have all the selections and colors that you want either that Apple will have on launch day. It really does vary from store to store, as I have three Best Buy’s in a 10 mile radius, and none of them had the same stock for Apple products on launch day.

Ceramic ones are attractive but very expensive! Why would I buy the Ceramic version!?

Because its an aesthetic choice in choice of materials, that’s why. The ceramic model doesn’t have to be for everybody, but for those who appreciate it, do understand that it’s lighter under the stainless and extremely resistant to scratches and damage.

I was going to wait to get the new one but last last month Best Buy had the new SS series 3 on sale for I believe it was $560 and I had $10 in rewards. Really couldn't pass up the deal, I am loving the SS version over the Aluminum as well. Should add it was a 42MM version as well.

Thinking about picking up a new sealed in box series 3 for $250. Seems like a decent price.

Honestly, at this point I'd probably wait. Once the new model drops, previous models will be sold at a discount for sure.

Maybe through third party retailers, but if Apple discontinues previous models, then you won’t be able to purchase older models from them, aside from refurbished models still offered.

I have seen specultion that there will be only a cellular model.. I hope that does not mean they make the price $400.00 for the entry level watch as opposed to $329.00 for the non cellular. I don't want cellular to begin with.. so spending $400.00 for a feature I dont want to use.. ugh.

Except you’d be spending 70 for a feature you kind of don’t want. I suspect gps is only on the cellular one too...

For me the biggest thing holding me back from going from my Fitbit charge 2 to an Apple Watch is battery life.

I’d like to able to go at least on a 3 night backpacking trip without having to charge it. Yes I know can carry a portable battery but I don’t want to keep taking my watch off.

I also like to use silent alarms so I don’t wake my wife and having to charge it at night prevents that. I’m hoping series 4 will get me that battery life I want but I’m confident it will. Maybe series 5?

Series 4 is suppose to have a larger battery.

If @Woodcrest64 is talking about a 3 day backpacking trip, with GPS, and activity/HR tracking, it's just not gonna happen, not with an AW, anyway. Perhaps if all he does is wear the watch, no Bluetooth, no LTE, and no GPS, "maybe", but that would be about it. The battery is just too small, the AW is an "urban" machine, while the others, (Garmin, Suunto) are more suited to lengthy outdoor activities.

Oh okay, thanks! I have so much to learn.
