Mojave/Canyon Rose (coping with photos today…maybe July bands are about to be a thing?)

The current two top end materials for Apple Watch.

So here we have my retired Stainless Steel Series 4 on the left (which i still haven’t figured out what to do with just yet), and my Natural Titanium Series 6 on the right.

Putting them next to each other, they do look a bit more similar than you’d think! I appreciate the differences in how ones more matte, ones more shiny, ones a bit heavier, the others lighter… I think the Titanium is much nicer to touch, its very smooth.

Titanium is such an understated, yet elegant material and the lighter weight on the wrist is perfect. I‘ll be sad if, as an Edition Watch, its dropped for Series 7 but who knows what they’ll end up doing.

It’s difficult to not copy and paste the prevailing strategy of the other lines. Ie collapse Edition down to Hermes, replace Ti with more colored aluminum. The question is, are Titanium sales high enough to pull the crucial Average Selling Price of the entire line upwards?

There are a lot of interesting things to think about here.

Series 4 there was no Apple Watch Edition line, not counting Hermes.

Series 5 had both White Ceramic and then Titanium in two shades.

Series 6 dropped Ceramic but retained the Titanium.

While there aren’t any publicly available sales statistics from Apple, I would have to wager that the Titanium must have sold reasonably well enough during Series 5 that they retained it for Series 6, otherwise I guess they would’ve just recreated the Series 4 line, with just Stainless and Hermes. Ceramic meanwhile, I’ve read elsewhere there are massive difficulties in actually manufacturing them to Apples high standards, to the point where its only viable to do it every other year or something which is the most likely reason why it wasn’t there for S6

I personally wouldn’t be in favour of discontinuing the Edition Line altogether to focus on Hermes SS - its the same material as Silver SS with a pretty high mark-up in price, just with some exclusive Watch faces, and bands (that unlike the faces, you can buy separately). Maybe they’ll try a new material for the Edition line? Platinum eg? I don’t know, I’m excited to see whats available for Series 7 :)

Keep the S4 and wear it when you feel like it :)

Having had a few Ti watches in the past, I have to say that I also like the reduced weight a lot... but in general prefer polished steel. So it I had to choose (and could, some watches are only available in Ti), I'd go for SS.

Also consider the extent to which the expensive new materials existed to appease a bored Sir Jony. Now raw Titanium isn’t expensive but we are coming to the end of possible products developed under his reign. My sense is the Gold S0 and Ceramic do nothing for Tim, and maybe embarrassed him even, as weak spreadsheet values to a real “killer” of a manager.

I’d love to know what’s feasible in the realm of colored stainless steel if Titanium is considered long in the tooth. Or maybe the brushed look is exactly why it survives to the new boxy s7. For sure it is the best leather pair imo because of the texture. Conceivably it wouldn‘t become too expensive under the first year of all the new molds and dies and machines the way ceramic had to be benched for the s4 body style.

I wonder if Jony would have tried to make it thinner (contra rumors that s7 will be slightly thicker), lord knows the 40mm battery is dodgy.

All I want for Christmas (in September) is a shiny white polycarbonate Watch (think iPhone 5C) that looks (almost) like ceramic, doesn’t add the latter’s bulk and is even lighter (and maybe cheaper) than aluminium. Perfect daily driver.

This is probably the third time I've worn this strap in the six(ish) months that I've owned it. I always found the material to be slightly uncomfortable, almost like a wool itch (if that makes sense). It also tended to slip off my wrist and up onto my lower forearm, which I can't stand as I prefer my watches to sit as close to the hand as possible.

I don't know if it's the strap orientation or if my arm/wrist area has significantly changed since I stopped lifting but it feels perfectly comfortable today.

Quick question; At a wedding tomorrow. What do you guys think is the best "dressy" strap to go with graphite watch, Milanese loop or space black link bracelet?

Um, sorry to risk kidnapping this thread, b ut anyone else having issues with their AW not charging well with this charger, in the same configuration? The AW will *BING*, and it shows the green circle and the lightning bolt, but occasionally will wake up in the morning with something way less than 50% charge. Disappointing..

Carry on...
