With all the accessories, white sure looks nicer for the iPad/iPhone. Myself, I prefer black, and I wish they would make the magic keyboard in space grey with black keys, and I wish they would make the Apple Pencil in black as well.

Like you I also have had black border phones and MacBook/MacBook Pros over the years. I have been a proponent of black rimmed TVs too as they are easier on your eyes I've thought. However I went with a white/silver iPhone 6+ when I upgraded and really liked the change of pace. Hubby has stayed with the black border when he's upgraded.
When I upgraded my iPad2 to the iPP, like you I went white/silver. Also got the Apple cover and case in white too. I might have considered other cover/case colors if there was a choice other than white or black, but there isn't right now and felt I should have some protection on it from the start.
Personally I dislike the black, giant Apple logo on the Apple case. Dislike is putting it mildly. I think it looks really tacky for an Apple product. My iPhone 6+ white case has an Apple logo on it too and it is simply all white. Much, much classier I think. A silver or light gray logo on the iPP case would have looked way nicer. Anyway I also picked up the white Pencil in January and love the look and feel of it. Works great. I can see people with the black rimmed iPP version wishing there was a black Pencil to coordinate.
I read a comment in the thread on people being hesitant to go with the white color for the case/cover. I was hesitant too thinking it would look dirty and be hard to stay looking clean but surprising it still looks pretty pristine. Same with my iPhone 6+ case which I've had since the iPhone 6+ came out. That has been handled a lot and gone in and out of my purse and placed on all kinds of surfaces. I will say I love the feel of both phone and iPP cases in my hand. Smooth, not slippery, while still being skid resistant. Wish they had been priced a bit less but super happy with my purchases all the same.
