I find the motion watch face cool for the evening when I don't need to see any complications.

But it's major downside is that the motion image in the background takes too long to appear. By the time you've glanced at the time, the image has just started to appear.View attachment 550965

Yeah I've been noticing the same thing. Though it seems to be the most delayed with the jellyfish (my favorite one, of course).

I have to say I'm really surprised by the sheer number of apps many of you have loaded onto your Apple Watch. Do you actually use all of them? Or do you have them there just for the sake of having them there?

I've found that maybe 95% of all my 3rd party apps are pretty much useless on the Watch. I'll install them, check them out for a few seconds, and be like, "nope..."

Good question.

I have loads of apps on my phone because I use my phone as my go-to computer (6 Plus). Still, I've turned off the install-by-default app option on the watch.

I try to approach apps as follows:
- the essential apps I use the most around the centre
- the occasional apps I use thereafter
- then the apps I'm keeping for reference (eg a currency converter)

The same thinking goes for my phone; the home screen for essential, followed by non-essential/occasional and then apps for reference mainly in folders.

No I see what you're saying about the phone. I think I have over 200 apps on my iPhone, many of which rarely get used.

My point was specifically about the Apple Watch variants of those apps. Most of them tend to be so useless that there's almost no point in ever using them over their iPhone counterpart. I mean, ever. So why leave it on your Watch?

So my question is... Do you actually find all of these Watch apps to be useful, or are they simply there just to be there because it's a new device and you want to show off your app screens? (Not "you" directly, but in a general sense here).

I was actually referring to the watch app as well when I wrote my last post. The ones nearest to the centre of the watch app are the most essential, then the occasional, and the rest are for one-off/reference. Eg a currency converter for the odd occasion, or Uber for the odd occasion, or Just Eat for the odd occasion.

Okay, so you do find them useful. That's all I was wondering.

What apps, aside from the ones you mentioned, do you actually use? I'm just curious since I haven't found many useful ones. Maybe I just haven't found the right ones yet :)

I haven't been through the whole tread again so excuse me if this has been mentioned before ... Shazam is one of the very few 3d party apps I keep on my watch . Much faster than digging in a folder to find it on the phone .

Show Off Your Watch Face and Home Screen!

Aside from the Apple apps:
- Overcast for podcasts
- Fitlist for fitness
- Bring! for groceries
- Day One for short journaling dictation
- 1password for favourite passwords and data
- Spark Mail (beta) for email (testing)
- Instapaper for listening to articles
- Dark Sky for weather
- BBC news for headlines
- Citymapper for directions
- Carrot Fit for 7 minute workout (testing)
- Omnifocus for checking off key tasks

Of course, all the above are better on an iPhone, but I only use them for those occasions when the iPhone isn't better - eg not nearby, quick interactions, hands full, on the move, etc.

I've been trying to find a good grocery list app. I feel like that would definitely be more convenient. I'll check that one out! Thanks

waiting on my SS milanese loop next month, but an interesting tidbit

I was at my bank Friday sitting with the banker and he had on one of those round motorola watches, looked real nice, I told him how I am waiting on my apple watch, he goes check this out, and he has an app called facer where they have tons of third party faces like rolex cartier and so much more that he can use.

You all think that will be a possibility anytime soon on apple watch?

Widely debated. I know there are credible rumours about future ability to customise the complications with third part offers, but custom third party watch faces may be less likely or take much longer. If it is going to happen, I think it'll be like third part keyboards on iOS, only long after the system, the user base and the core identity of the device settles.

To be honest, I liken the requirement to have 3rd party watch faces to that of being able to change the wallpaper on the iPhone and iPad. It's a level of personalization which is actually quite essential and expected, rather than just a nice to have.

If you think about it, it's quite sad what could happen. You've probably gone through many many years never ever seeing someone wearing the same wristwatch as you. Now, you'll see the same everywhere.

Something is wrong with my new watch. Anyone have this face!

Anyone try making a space invader sprite with their app arrangement? I'll mess with it today and post if successful.

Here is mine. Organic style branches that I have no problem adding to. They are split up to be games, music, social, shopping, and utilities. With the most used apps in the middle.

Seems like everyone is using modular face

Apple really needs to start allowing third party faces
