Were there rumors of a new thunderbolt display coming soon? with new glass, USB 3, etc?

This may have been brought up already, but I think they should make a 21.5" version TBD. I can't even imagine having a 27" display, that's TV size in my mind, too much real-estate for me. Not to mention I don't appreciate putting up 1000$ for a screen on top of the price of the computer.

That would be nice. I also agree with you about the 27'' iMac being too large for most peoples uses, and its a shame that Apple hasn't added a 24'' sweet spot to the range of iMacs. Alternatively it would be nice if they made a 21.5'' TBD but even still it would cost >$600 (half the price of the current TBD) which would still be costly. Maybe they will bump up the size of the 21.5'' to something like 23''. Hopefully.

Where can I find a thunderbolt to HDMI adapter for my 2011 MacBook Pro
I looked on Amazon but no dice I saw many thunderbolt cables and Thunderbolt to VGA cables

Make sure you're looking for MiniDisplayport to HDMI. I don't think those are marketed as thunderbolt adapters.

Hey guys I am thinking of getting the ATD for my 2011 MBP 15" i7 but I have some questions

1. Does anyone have a good product I can use to hide away my MBP as I am not going to have room for it ( also have a raspberry pi connected to a samsung 23" display which I want to keep on my desk, hence I want to be able to move my MBP) ). I am sure I have seen something where the macbook pro can go under the ATD in a special stand?

2. Occasionally I might want to use both my displays for example if I was doing a uni project, where I want multiple pages open. Can I connect the samsung display as well to my computer (I understand this may not be the correct forum but someone might have tried/done it). I know I can connect 2 ATD to my MBP but that would cost as much as a iMac :p so since I already have the samsung display is it possible. Might be happy to buy a 'extra monitor driver' but preferably under $50.

Thanks for any help

you could use this which is nice to hide away your mbp.

as far as hooking up your samsung display to the thunderbolt display there is a way to do it i believe but i think you need another thunderbolt device between the thunderbolt display and the samsung. the samsung has to be the last in the chain.

you could also use one of these.

For my MBP I am after something more like this http://looneytek.com/apogee-monitor-stand-for-imac-and-thunderbolt-displays/
As I don't have much room see current set up - http://imgur.com/wsKQ1So

To connect the 2 monitors could I not use the Mini DP to HDMI adaptor?

Well, seen as it was this thread that inspired me on my new set up I best upload a picture of the system I bought 2 months go.

It is a mac mini 2.3 quad care i7 (late 2012)
2 x Thunderbolt displays
Wireless keyboard/mouse

My desk by Greg_P1, on Flickr[/IMG]

Took me ages to find a solid oak desk that would fit two displays and have a little room left over. Eventually got this one which is 6 feet wide

I know that I could have got more computer for less money going for a 27" imac and 1 TBD but I wanted uniformity in what is in front of me and I think they look far better than iMacs. I also don't need the graphics power in an iMac as Photoshop is my main power app, and this is more demanding on ram, so my mini copes fine (especially with a 16gb ram upgrade on the way)

My other tech is

1st gen iPad 16gb
iPhone 5
Wacom Intuos 5 graphics tablet

and work tech is....

13" Macbook air
Retina iPad 32gb
And a thunderbolt display.

I appreciate that there could be a new TBD at the end of the year, but there are also rumours of a retina iMac as well (and pretty much everything else!). Hopefully they will leave the TBD alone :)

Would appreciate any comments, and if anyone wants any other photos, let me know and i'll post them up

Question

I just installed my new Thunderbolt display. What do you think? :D

Chunk,
I was thinking about buying same desk (HM Envelop) but was wondering what your experience has been with it so far? I'd like to eventually have another 27" on it (non apple since I work cross platform) but it seems really fragile. How's it holding up with the one monitor? Is it flimsy at all, specifically when you pull it down? What about having your laptop open next to it, would the laptop just slide off? Fragile, flimsy, and a sliding wok surface make me nervous about its functionality, especially at that price point.

Hello Finn,

It does move a little bit. Its not like a solid wood desk. The designing of this desk seems to be focused more on ergonomics and for that, it does a tremendous job. The black part is porous enough so that a laptop wouldnt slide. I used it that way for a few weeks before having a monitor and the laptop stayed right there. The space is restraint on the white part so its not the kind of desk you should buy if you need lots of surface. I have to say i like it a lot and the HM chair and desk combo offers one hell of a comfortable setup. I would recommend it no doubt but the best would be for you to try it in store before buying.

Thank you Chunk, you've brought ease to my decision making. So if you had to do it again, sounds like you'd stick to the same setup. I'm shooting for that except with an Aeron chair and that's only because of resale market for the Aeron. One last question (hopefully). I saw this image online (http://www.dvice.com/sites/dvice/fi.../images/hermanmillerevelop3.jpg?itok=5EBoGcDq) and was wondering if you think this dual monitor setup is possible with 1 Thunderbolt display and 1 generic display on the desk you have now? Or am I pushing my luck? The literature says no more then 35lbs should be put onto that rear surface so the only other option I can think of is either wall mounting or floor stand.

Oh, in terms of monitor weight i wouldnt worry at all. I feel like it could take 3x ACD no problem. It's just a bit shaky on lateral force i would say. What i would do is maybe use two arms instead of 1x double arm to separate the load. ....even that would be very safe as the double arm base woulnd be nearly enough to break the desk.
Note that this is how i feel about your situation and that if you're the type of person who likes to play by the book, then you should probably follow HM's instructions. I just find manufacturers guidelines a bit overkill sometimes. :D
