On your desk, I noticed you have two keyboards, one wired and one wireless. Does that setup work and is there one keyboard that you use more often than the other? Thanks!

My 27" 2011 iMac with Thunderbolt Display and 24" Acer B243HL monitor (Which will be replaced by an updated Thunderbolt Display whenever they are released). They are mounted on a stacked Boa II and Boa from Monitors in Motion (Thanks to dubaimac for bringing these great arms to my attention).

Just upgraded to a Sit/Stand Treadmill Workstation (Edison Electric Table with TreadDesk Treadmill). Still waiting for the new Thunderbolt Display.

Flo Monitor Arm Weight Limit

I just installed my new Thunderbolt display. What do you think? :D Image[/url Image[/url Image I received my new desk, display and chair this week.

@ChunkAhoy I'm curious. I asked Herman Miller Support (online Q&A) if the Flo Dual Monitor Arm mounted on an Envelop Desk could support the 27" Thunderbolt Display (and a macbook air). The response I received said no but here you've done it! I'm curious how this setup works for you... did the arm show any signs of falling over or is it over engineered? In the picture shown, is that as far back as the arm will go? Looks too close to my face for me but glad it works for you. Here is the link to my question:

I got my dual Thurderbot displays mounted. :) Image

@deafgoose. I see you also have the Herman Miller Envelop desk. Any regrets about mounting to the wall. I know you said it is fine after first install but now (a couple weeks down the track) interested in your thoughts??

I will look at alternative mounting options, a wall mount is not an option but maybe a floor stand. I think I have seen at least one floor stand in this forum but if anyone has a set up with one would be great to see it..?

So this is the current carnation of my setup. I'm pretty pleased with it.

What I've got running is a 24" Apple Cinema Display. I prefer it over the proceeding 27" models. Just an aesthetic preference. Smaller form factor, more compact, less real estate taken up in the setup.

What it sits atop is a 8U Gator case with a Monster Pro 900 power conditioner, Odyssey Worklight, some of my favorite guitar pedals and my prized possession, an Evol Audio Fucifier. For those of you who aren't into pro audio, it's basically the sickest, all in one box on the planet. Channel strip, Mic Pre, Mixing Processor and if that wasn't enough, it's a guitar/bass head. To put icing on the cake, I personally know the guys who build them, and it isn't a bunch of dudes slapping pentagrams on things to move product. I finally found audio buffs who are actually educated in the occult. Thought I was the only one there for a second. :D Sitting beneath all that is a Electric Amps Purple guitar cab.

To the left of the rack, on top of the cab, now sits two OWC Mercury Elite Pro 7200 RMP FW 800 drives daisy chained together. Of course, the that stems from the other side of the rack, where I have 13" MacBook Pro (late 2012) completely maxed to hell: 2.9 GHz i7, 16 GBs of RAM, two Samsung 840 Pro 256GB internal SSDs set up in Raid 0.

My work drive for recording and mixing is the LaCie 128GB Thunderbolt/USB3.0 SSD rugged. You can see it sheltered by the MacBook Pro. I split it into two partitions, one for current projects and one for samples and IRs. I know its somewhat uncharted territory to use an SSD to work of off as frequent read/write cycles can potentially diminish the life span, but I'm going ahead and taking the plunge. I'm working with insane random and sequential read / write speeds across the board and back up everything I do to the FW drives. So the risk is pretty minimal. I've encountered no problems whatsoever. Next to my drive, though out of sight, is a USB hub where my iLok dongle, Roland TD11 V-Drum Kit, Apogee Jam (temporary, in between converters, waiting for a new interface coming out this summer from Aphex)

The monitors are Adam A7s which are relatively new as I just sold my NS-10s. They're sitting atop Iso Acoustic stands. The monitor stands are from Argosy and are as sturdy as all get out. I live in Hollywood so I needed something that at least would stand somewhat of a chance in case of an earthquake.

As for the clear acrylic desk, I have a Logictech Easyswitch backlit wireless keyboard <33, a Logictech Anywhere MX mouse which actually works on glass and acrylic and an 16GB iPad in a PC Gadgets issue Apple Store display. I also just recently acquired the new Arturia Minilab MIDI keyboard which happily fits on the desk as well and connects via USB.

The best part is the setup doesn't just look visually pleasing, it's also multifunctional in every sense. For mixing in Logic 9 and Pro Tools 10, I use V-Control on the iPad mini. The Apple Store case and position on the desk gives it the perfect tilt for fader rides and an overall comfortable mixing experience. On top of that, I also use Air Display which turns it into an external monitor. So I literally just drag plug ins from my computer screen and tweak them via touch which is awesome! I also just ordered the new adapter mount for my iPhone 5 from Blue Lounge. The Monster strip has two frontside outlets, so I'll be using one to mount my iPhone which also has Air Display should I need it. The added bonus with this arrangement is that my Logictech keyboard is synced via Bluetooth to my Mac, iPad and iPhone and can switch between them at the touch of a button. So transitioning between them is utterly seamless.

The guitar pedals on top of the Fucifier are all setup, ready to go and powered with one plug as my TC Electronic Polytune can daisychain its power. The output of the last pedal goes into the Instrument Input of my Fucifier and run the line out into my Apogee JAM so I can record my guitar, bass or practically any other instrument with processing on the way in. Furthermore, as I mentioned before, the Fucifier has a speaker output as its a fully functional guitar/bass head. That's hooked up to the Purple cab. So I can record a DI and amped signal simultaneously once I have the new interface that a lots that amount of inputs. But the pinnacle of the whole setup is that with the V-Drum kit (triggering Slate Drums in Logic) and DI guitar/bass ins (processed by PodFarm and other plugs in Logic) allows for full on band practice or writing sessions through the monitors or in complete silence via headphones. It works like a charm!

I've also positioned the workspace in such a way that both I as well as my roommate (the drummer), have views out of the window. We live in an apartment at the W Hotel Hollywood and come Friday night, it's a cluster of all sorts of trashed people, celebrities and fighting morons. The right window has direct view of the entrance to the hotel and Living Room bar, so we either yell at drunk people or on Sunday when it's jazz night, we wait until the high profiles start showing up and head down ourselves. My fiance happens to work there so we're on the guest list every weekend which helps. :D

Anyway, hope you guys dig my rig. Any suggestions are welcome!

Hello Jacob,

The Flo arm did indeed feel like it was at it's limit but it did work fine. I ended up returning the Thunderbolt display and decided to wait for the next version for other reasons. However, if you do the math, the Flo arm is rated up to 20lbs by Herman Miller and the Thunderbolt Display/Cinema Display weights 23.5lbs (with the stand). The stand is massive aluminium so i'm guessing it's at least 3.5lbs making the display under that 20lbs maximum supported weight.

To answer your other question about how close the display is.... it can be pushed back almost to the end of the desk. I just like my computer screen really close. I makes it bigger :D

Hope this helps!

Man!! This is the setup of the devil  :D

Cool setup, thou my neck was cranked so I rotated your image.

I was thinking of upgrading to this same exact setup. How's the 11" performance?

It's been great so far. I am coming from a base 21" 2011 iMac. I gave it to my parents and went with this for the extra screen real estate and portability. An iPad did not work for me as a laptop replacement. I am sure that it depends on what you plan to use the Air + ATD for , but for me all of the software that I regularly use (Pages, MS Office, Safari, iPhoto, and Bento) opens fast and run smoothly. There is no scroll lag and I can have 10+ tabs open without slowdown. I don't game very much, so I can't speak to that.

The heaviest use I have on my late 2008 uMBP is Aperture and occasionally iMovie. I'm building a gaming PC soon, so I'm not worried about gaming performance. Which, I wouldn't get an air for that anyway.

I think this setup would be perfect for that. I've used iMovie without issue as well.

I'm planning on buying a TBD for my MacBook Air setup but just noticed something: the cable that comes from the display and splits into the Thunderbolt connection and MagSafe connection is not long enough for the MacBook Air. Unlike MacBook Pro's (see pic) the Air has the Thunderbolt and MagSafe ports on opposite sides so the cable length from the monitor doesn't look to be long enough. Will I need a Thunderbolt extension cable - is there such a thing?

It fits the MBA. No worries.

15" rMBP, iPad 2 (running "Actions for iPad); superdrive, Apple wireless keyboard and Magic Mouse.

(My apologies if the photograph is upside-down; no matter what I do, it appears as upside down when previewing this post!)

Your post reminds me of a cool new movie called "Upside Down - Twinned Earth worlds with gravities that pull in opposite directions. "

After going through all these post, I have come to the following conclusion.

1. Does anyone use their desk for work?

2. I need to pickup some Herman Miller furniture.
