Indeed I am. I don't like it when people steal my software/stuff, so I don't.

I also have a legal work permit, if that provides you with any ease of mind.

I'll need to have three copies of the work permit submitted to me by Friday. :p

Kidding kidding (if you couldn't tell ;))

I couldn't.

Until I saw "kidding", I was befuddled as to why you wanted so many copy's. It caused me oh so much anguish, I just don't think I'd be able to get three copies to you, ah, must be down to my age.

Kidding :)

I'm sure he didn't need a 30" monitor, I'm also sure he probably got annoyed about not being able to find a specific window, or having a code view, debugger, terminal, browser amongst over things that he'd need. x2 30" monitors would of sorted that out ;)

@dofoto:

Look back, you'll see I haven't got it yet-- it's been delayed.

You don't need any windows; Terminal is all you ever need for programming. And well emacs too.

I was talking about web stuff.

If your working in the 21st century you need atleast:
Terminal (SSH, Server connections)
an IDE
Browser for viewing code, unless its CLI stuff
Debugger to look at code errors etc, using firebug can really take up a reasonable portion of the screen, then if you use phpmyadmin, you'll need that up for your MySQL stuff.

Trust me theres more than you'd expect.

I don't edit in Nano or Vim, thankyou very much :)

Sound's like someone needs a lesson in personal management :p

I mean if you worked to earn the money, I'd still be wondering why the heck you need to 30" displays. If my 14 year old ordered 2 of 'em, I'd probably ship him off to boarding school so he could learn some values. Obviously if you have to brag about getting 2 tvs for monitors, you...um nevermind. 'nuff said.

I have a buddy who's an architect and designs skyscrapers. He has one 46" monitor. ONE. "I need it for developing." BS.

ok i cannot read the rest of this bickering
but if its anything
i write code also but on a
16 mbp and a 16 crt
and its annoying as F*(* having to find the debugger window (or any other one)
and i also use spaces but only 2 of them as more is not productive for me.
all i have to say is that, props, and sell me your old 19 or 22, i could really use it :)
edit, i could really really use it

19 inch gateway, 22inch envision, both good condition, offer? :)

ProwlingTigeter, one 46" monitor doesn't have the resolution I need. I don't care about screen size, just resolutiom...to a certain extent :p. Sure I could do what I do with one, or maybe with what i have now, but it'll be easier with 30inchers.

no ya thats really what i care about, resolution.
thats why i was going to get a 19in because at 1680x 1050 is like 100+ ppi

whats the resolution on both

The age of the poster is negligible since there is no way of proving how old he/she is.

I will say that two thirty inch screens is excessive in mostly all cases though.

the poster has said that another thirty inches will increase workflow, thus increasing money.

personally I'd think a solid investment of that money in bonds or even stocks would probably be a more sure fire way of increasing the money you have.

but, whatever.

hell, if you get up to thirty thirty inch displays, you should take a picture so we can all drool in disbelief.

This thread should have been titled, "Showing off my mad 14 year old skillz".

Enjoy the monitor(s). Enjoy being 14.

Here's some free advice (which is probably all that it's worth). It's always nice to get paid to do what you like. But making what you like a job is a really good way to start not liking that thing.

It would probably help him a bit, but no one NEEDs it. No one! You don't need to get a brand new car and you don't need the super size meal. This guy seems to be doing well for himself, and he sures knows more about computers then i did when i was 14, heck i think even now. He's got the money and he has treated himself. We aren't his parents and it's not like you would listen to randoms online telling you to return the hugeass monitors you just bought and put the money somewhere in a box, at least not when I was 14!

Anyway, congrats on the cool new monitors, take lots of screens for us when you do eventually get it (please update first post so we don't have to read more people getting a bit spiffy ^_^.

Although im not a programmer (and read a lot of books at my desk for what i do) so i will be slightly bias, i think one 30" is great, in fact, im planning on getting one myself. But 2 would be a bit weird i think, let me try and explain:

Due to the size and number, you can only really place them in two arrangements that make sense unless you have some circular desk or eyes that are 30cm apart/like to shift your chair across the desk like you'd have to do with this
dual-portrait-satellite2.gif
- unless your desk was really deep (depth).

1 - One of them head on and the other next to it at an angle towards you, like this guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wnUSMU63sgs
-which looks kind of lame if you ask me - not quite right you know? and if you are spending that much cash, lets get a workplace that gives some eyecandy :)
or
2 - both of them at an angle, you sitting in the centre, like this:
dual_monitor.jpg

Neither of which is quite perfect! I think either 1x30", or 1x30" with two smaller monitors rotated to be vertical and placed along side it, OR going all out and immersing yourself with monitors 3x30" which i feel is a bit much....

what do you think? (this is really more to help me decide, then for you :p )

If you were crazy about resolution and PPI (DPI)…

…this is for you: http://www.amazon.com/IBM-T221-22-2-3840x2400-Monitor/dp/B00006HS5R

holyy molyyyyyyyyyyyyy
200 ppi
wow
but at like 7k i do not think i will be getting it.

i want above 100ppi because my mbp is something like 110
and i baught one at like 90 and it just looked horrible and the size thing of all the windows were so annoying
ive been wanting the westinghouse 19in at 1680 x 1060 or something like that

what do you think? (this is really more to help me decide, then for you :p )

you end up using one as a primary and secondary anyway
so putting it on the right is not a big deal, i end up sitting in between them but i have a corner desk so its not hard to switch
its amazing when you want to read on the internet or something or type and you make the window span both screens.

Hey are you buying a $5000 DSLR that is super-light and you'll get a 1200mm lens with it? :D

That would be an enourmous bargain!

Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III - $8500 (Its soo nice though I love it!)
Canon 1200mm 5.6L - $99,000

For 5K Id buy that in a heartbeat!

Aside from that, to the OP's defense I code games in my spare time and huge monitors are a big help, however I think instead of 2 30inch displays money is better spent on three 22 or 24 inch displays. I find three more useful then 2 but thats just me. Its more screen real estate as well. Two monitors are for working and one is for playing :)

I remember when I was in university I took a part-time summer job with the university's computer/technology day camp. (This was in addition to my summer job coding Java apps for a professor to help him with his research). I taught HTML and electronics to kids of various ages. I remember meeting one 10-year-old who knew more about Linux than I did. He also insisted on showing up to day camp wearing a 3-piece suit and tie... and sandals. Strange little fellow, but I'm 100% certain he's now making far more money than I am!

As for college/university: I went to the local university, so my degree cost about $20-30K. I was only in debt for less than a year after I graduated. Well worth the time and money, as I learned a lot -- not just about computers and engineering (which, like you, I already knew a lot about, since I started programming when I was 11), but about life skills, time management, self-discipline, dealing with people, and all that good stuff.

Thanks for all your comments guys!
19inch @ 1440x900
22inch @ 1680x1050

UPDATE:
Just shipped, tracking the order, should be here tomorrow, except pics soon!

Resolution? Developing? Seems a bit greedy to have to go to 30 inchers just to get good resolution.

i see, but do you not prefer to have at least one directly infront of you? Is at all weird to have nothing directly infront? Or do you prefer it with both at an angle?
