Looks like it might be longer.

Dell ordered ground as opposed to overnight shipping! They annoy me so much!

Heh.

Dell sucks tbh, there entire show sucks, but they're products are good :(

I've been through hell and back with them already, and now they won't admit it's ground.

I think it's karma kicking you in the butt for buying a Dell product instead of an Apple product. ;)

Excuse the slightly off topic rant Mods.

Wow, in-state?! That's insane if it's in-state.

The problem with the insanely high costs of education is that not everyone has equal access to it based on merit.

And those who disagree will counter with "But...but scholarships". Yea well that's nice, but there's a limited amount at each school, and they're taken up to fulfill racial/demographic/etc quotas.

In countries where education is funded by the taxpayers, and the tuition costs are very small (in the range of $2-3000 for top schools) your economic background plays a very small roll in how far you can go in the educational system. Students are rewarded spots in universities based on merit, not bank accounts.

The problem here lies in that a student who comes from a very poor family and receives a 30/36 on his ACT and has a 3.5GPA won't get full rides or half tuition, especially if they don't fall into a racial bracket that still has quotas to meet. These are the people that are forced into ridiculous amounts of debt or the abandonment of higher education altogether.

The number one concern for any student should be education, NOT finances. And systems where $20,000 for a state funded school is the norm, this simply isn't possible.
Yes, unfortunately, in state. I'd dig up the proof from the most recent alumni rag, but don't have time, and we would be seriously off topic (not that we aren't already!!!)

Avoidance = very probable bull. I dont doubt your a smart kid but i definitely do doubt your claims, mainly due to the fact that you have had no problem about telling us about yourself, but when asked to show something there is nothing... therefore i am out, timewaster.

:S

Who asked me to show what?

There was a guy somewhere in the first half of the tread asking you to show some of the stuff you claim to have developed yourself.

And I would also be very interested to see apps made by 14 y/o that require 8 core Mac Pro ! :)

when did I say I required a mac pro :p.

Anything specific, I'll post some of my work :)

To keep you occupied:

did you make those websites?

I don't mean any offense, but I don't think those websites would produce the amount of income required to purchase an 8-Core Mac Pro and 2 30" screens. I doubt a voiceover demo service (Sound Advice) or their clients would pay several thousand for 3 websites. I also doubt they would choose a 14 year old developer from the UK when they could find someone closer with more experience. Maybe you could show us something else you designed?

Also, I thought you said you were a programmer/developer of (somewhat legal) scraper codes. To my knowledge, a programmer/developer is completely different than a web/graphic designer, unless you are using the term "Developer" *very* loosely.

So are you Ginger Bryan or CodeeTech? If you are Ginger Bryan, you're a freelance graphic design artist who went to Columbia College in Chicago. It would also dismiss any idea of you being a British 14 year old.

If you are CodeeTech, you need to get your website working ASAP. CodeeTech does have an IP location in the UK, so it might support you being a British "developer" (there is no way to prove your age). However, CodeeTech does not seem yet (because it is "coming soon") to have the same calibur design as the three you showed (which were still slightly amateurish). Again, maybe you could show some of your other work?

CharlieKirk, you said "Yes" to the question "Did you make those websites?" Well, unless you're Ginger Bryan, you didn't design the graphics. So what are you actually doing for the websites? Did you do the Flash for it? Are you maintaining them? Or et cetera...

(Skepticism rising.)

...lookout, here comes the 'I take the internet far to serious police'...

I did the flash and I maintain the websites when they need things added to them, I did not do any of the graphics. I am CodeeTech, although it is old, and that time I didn't think I needed a dedicated designer, I now have one that I work with, I do more than just create websites :/.

I work for a small company based on a facebook application, and a stand-alone website, in my spare time I create peoples websites, I think it would be unfair to claim the company based on a facebook application my work, as I have only been working for them for a few months, hence my reluctance to post that website.

CodeeTech is old, I'll try and get those links changed soon.

That could be considered offensive, which is against the forum rules.

Take the time to read the rest of the thread, and you might understand my reply.

I did read the whole thread, and my comment honestly could have been directed at many others before you, your diatribe against him just seemed silly. And for someone so worried about 'offending' people, you deliberately insulted his work as 'amateurish' and even though you stated you didn't mean to offend, you offered a rather harsh criticism which he didn't ask for. But thanks for instructing me on the rules officer,.

i dont think he was insulting. although i will agree if he didnt do the graphics, that those sites are nothing special from a putting it together point of view and are indeed amateurish in my book

but what can you expect, he's 14 and definitely better than i was at that age

DUUDEEE still want to SEE this setup, especially how you decide to arrange it as it seems to be a big deal for me, which you would know if you hadn't ignored my huge post previously!

let me ask what the criticism is REALLY about.

Is it that he's buying 2 x 30 inch screens?

is it that he's running a an 8 core mac pro?

is it that he's 14?

that he claims he's a developer?

I'll admit to walk around and telling everyone that you are a developer at 14 is presumptuous. You're not the first 14 year old kid to learn how to design websites, take pictures, or just be a code monkey. I had my first paying design gig when I was 15 --- I went to elementary school with a kid that at 13 was on the development team for Half Life -- and I don't mean a tester -- I mean code monkey extraordinaire -- he was brilliant --- and even he was more humble.

Whether or not you do jobs that let you afford the toys is really irrelevant. For all I care you're wealthy and spending the money isn't a big deal since you have access to plenty more -- maybe you'll install a mac mini in your car when you get your license just cause you can -- i don't know.

will your work flow REALLY improve that much because you have two 30 inch screens versus the 22 and 19 inch screens? I doubt it. Will you feel like a million bucks sitting down in front of your rig? I would be surprised if you said no.

At the end of it all. I'm on your side. Enjoy your new toys. If having this is what the key to making you happy right now then you do it.

To those that seem to want to rain on your parade I ask. Are you suffering from some "mommy and daddy didn't love me enough to buy me all the toys I wanted" issues?

Do you carry a chip on your shoulder because you don't live a life that would allow you to blow money like this?

To the "minimalists" are you using that as an excuse because you really can't afford the things you want so you simply reject them? I don't actually care about your answer because it doesn't matter

If this kid wants to show off his new toys -- let him -- who's he hurting?

holy crap, people stop freaking posting and ranting.

WHERE ARE THE GOSH DAM PICS!!!!!!!!!

THATS WHAT EVERYONE IS HERE FOR

Just got delivered, I finish work in an hour and a half, one hour to get home, then pics'll come in an hour after that, so 3 and a half hours guys :)

Also thanks for the comments.

That sounds pretty interesting about the half life dev. I by no means am saying I am a genius kid who is better than everybody, there are MANY people better than me.

Thanks! :)

When the next one comes in 2 weeks I'll have some more setup shots! :)
