Apple is acting like Nintendo was back in the nineties when they would refuse games that were too violent and such. Even now, Nintendo has never completely shed their “kiddie” image among some gamers. Hope Apple wakes up and doesn’t repeat that mistake.

it does sound like that, but looks more like he’s just swinging a big enough hammer these days that he doesn’t need to bow down...

I love some of his shows, but it seems to me that most of them have been cancelled fast, or he’s been kicked out or left them early on. He’s not had a lot of commercial success, so not sure how big that “hammer” really is.

It’s fine they want some “tame” shows to kick off with and to run in their stores. But it is not a wise move to generally shy away from strong language, nudity, violence etc. I think there is a huge demand for grown-up shows and movies. Netflix understands this. Better make that acquisition soon, Apple ;)

When I was a kid everything was either G or PG. I'm definitely gonna say I'm with Apple on this one. It's one of the few things we can agree on...the original Star Wars was something like G or PG and its legendary as far as media entertainment goes. If someone can't make family friendly work in this day and age and still be edgy, they don't have the creativity to be in that field. Period.

I've seen several people use Disney as an example. Most are forgetting that Disney owns Touchstone Pictures. Not everything Disney does is kid friendly.

Honestly, you're right. My favorite shows are The Office and Seinfeld. They were made for tv. They are brilliant, funny, and yet not rifled with unnecessary language and sex. The point I'm making is -- you don't need risque content in order to have great television. I've watched some Netflix originals and I have to say -- a lot of the adult content feels like it's in there just for the sake of it being there. It's not helping tell a better story, so what's the point?

I agree. I still never forgiven NF for ruining Marvel or Amazon for ruing The Tick. Netflix, HBO and other providers attitude is "Just because we can we do."

I am glad Apple is making a stand. A show can be great without constant swearing and sex. Wait I am going to hear from the Mature loving Apologists saying that well in real life there is sex and swearing. Well hello I watch shows and get away from the real world. If I want to hear people swear I can just walk down the street I don't need it on my TV.

Yeah really unfortunate what happened to Nintendo...

Someone mentioned Seinfeld and the Office .
Seriously could they be considered family friendly shows?
Seinfeld literally pushed the network to the very limit and beyond and was all the better for it .
This is a kind of edgy that might be a step too far for Apple. Depends how hands on they really are in the process.

Sounds like they want the kind of television that the sterile, robotic looking people in Apple ads would all presumably watch.
