I think they should have a tighter deadline on apps implementing this. They've had since June to implement this. This is more of a privacy issue than anything else, and Apple shouldn't be lenient on privacy!

This is a pretty awesome feature Apple came up with, but idk why developers would want to implement it when it means that they won’t be getting your personal info anymore. Doesn’t really make any sense... in that sense.

I'm reminded when Amazon would show higher prices to Safari users. It isn't that anonymous when the websites will know you are an apple user.

I don’t think you know what “anonymous” means. It has nothing to do with what browser or OS you’re using. It has to do with keeping your identity secret. As in your real name, email address, phone number or similar information.

So are google and Facebook loosing money because of this (and similar services)? If so how much are we talking?
Will this lead to fewer “free” services, and an even more aggressive ads/tracking/privacy selling industry?

Because users will start looking for Apps that implement this feature to protect heir identity. Apps that refuse to implement it are ones I’d avoid, as there’s no reason for them not to other than they don’t get your personal info.

The market will decide.

Apps are not required to use Sign in with Apple as an option if signing in with a username and password is available, though developers certainly can if they choose to.

Does this mean that if an app allows signing in with a username/password created with them, in addition to offering 3rd party sign in - they aren't required to implement Sign in with Apple?

For example, Pokemon GO - you can sign in with Facebook, Google, or with an account created directly with Niantic. Since you can sign in with a Niantic account, are they not required to implement Sign in with Apple?

If that's the case, I'm not sure how well this will take off. I was initially thinking all apps that offered signing in with a 3rd party would be required to have this. It's been a long time since I've come across an app/site that only allowed signing in with a 3rd party - not everyone has a Facebook or Google account. I don't envision too many developers implementing this "just because they can", but I could be wrong.

Then if you see an App that won't use it, then YOU know what app NOT to use! EH?

1. Its mandatory, if an app uses any signup service they have to use this.
2. As a developer, Its a pain in the ass setup your own signup server. This makes it easy to create an account for someone without having to worry about getting hacked or sued.
3. Facebook and google get information about the App itself, how many uses and such. So..privacy for the app itself, Apple already knows how often and who is using what apps.

It'd be nice to have a link on how to enable this for a website, esp. one running the typical Apache server (and IIS too, I suppose).

I hope they make the two-factor authentication a bit less stupid. I get it repeatedly in cases where it should have remembered that the browser or device should be trusted. And I get it such that I can see the number and enter it on the same device that I'm trying to log into, which means it's not really two-factor then. And don't even think about a really old device and OS, where two-factor only could be done by entering the concatenation of password and code, which is nearly impossible to do before the code times out. If I ever try running app updates on my old iPad for example, it beats me to death with notifications popping up on every device I have.

I can’t wait to replace all my Facebook sign ins with this. Many sites only give you Facebook log in as the only option. I avoid it as much as I can. Once the deadline to use Apple Sign In hits, I’m going to go one by one to all the sites I have accounts with, and replace each one.

Here’s where you can see which sites you’re signed in with Facebook:

The one outstanding question I had was if I could replace my existing accounts with one signed in with Apple without having to create a new account. With WordPress, the answer is yes.

When I hit “continue with Apple” and proceeded through the prompts, when I selected to allow WordPress to see my real email address, it correctly matched it to an existing account and asked me for the password. From that point on, I could sign in to WordPress without the password since it was now using Apple sign in.

Knowing you're an apple user is another data point to build a unique profile to track you.

Are you saying that the developers have to pay google and Facebook to use the sign in service? Thought that was free. More reason not to use it, if true

I think I got it. Login with my Wordpress Account and under Security

Now I can Sign with Apple on my current Wordpress Account.

Sorry for the dumb question, but I just set this up... and now I don't know how to login. The 'fake' email address doesn't work, and my appleID doesn't work. Did I miss a fake password or something being provided with the fake email address?

Two factor on the same device, if it was I think you mean, is actually fine. For instance, I have two factor, but my phone is linked to my Mac, so when it sends a request to my phone my Mac picks it up, you still need both devices for it to work. email is a bit trickier, because if it sends an email to your Mac, and someone has stolen your Mac, and can unlock it, they can put in the passcode, but if they are using another computer to login, then they can't get access to your email, unless they already hacked that too.

Nothing is perfect

I used this for an App and used hide my email, but I do not get any of the emails that I know the app usually sends, so something in the forward isn't working correctly.

Not mentioned in the article but when you create an Account with Sign in with Apple you can click the X next to your name and remove your last name if you want to be extra private.

When you subscribe to an App or make an app purchase in the App what Payment information does the app dev get?
