Yes, that extra bit, and extra bit, and extra bit gets a bit over the top sometimes. I thought long and hard about how to keep my sig at a minimum...

Exactly; putting in the size of 'Book, the processor speed and the RAM doesn't bother me at all. But it's when the hard drive size, graphics card etc down to the L2 cache end up there that I think, why bother! It's not like we're a modding forum where graphics cards could be almost anything.

And there there are the ones that look like a burglar's shopping list by the time they list their external drives, their iPods, their mobile phones, their TVs etc :p

:( Sorry (also the the posters who agreed after rainman) but I feel like I'm in a tight squeeze; a few months ago was a really long thread about sigs (which got closed) and everybody said the opposite then, how they wished people would list simple specs so that when replying s/he could tell if his/her own setup was relevant or whatnot.

So I put mine in my sig...
I'm not quite sure why people put specs in their sigs. I just put mine on my profile page (where is a field to do so). It doesn't bother me in the slightest, but it would seem that any confusion on the matter of specs in sigs could be resolved by looking at their profile page.

Either way... nice computer ;) :D

Sweeeeet. :) I think we're classified under "lost causes." :D

Yep, I think that's pretty much it. ;)

Speak for yourself, I've got a hair in my eye... :D

Haha - just had to say, nice one! Ah, the pains of having beautiful hair. Oh well, it could be worse - you could have a disorder and instead of your hair, that could be your eyelashes instead... ;)

It really isn't a big deal. If they asked you to shorten your sig..do it! Don't make a post saying "why do I have to shorten mine, and noone else has to shorten theirs?" That's ridiculous! They asked me to, and I complied with no problem. What is the big freakin' deal!!!

I really don't have too much an opinion about sigs.

When I joined MR my first posts related mostly to software/hardware/gaming questions, and I found it convenient to put my specs in my sig so I wasn't constantly typing them out every time I wanted to refer to them.

Some people like to list everything they own that uses electricity in their sig, and that's fine. Use a small font...I don't look down on people because they have unimaginative or boring sigs - as long as they aren't overly large or offensive who cares?

The member who started this thread had an overly large sig, so yeah, change it. No biggie.

Yeah i didn't mean to pick on anyone in particular, just specs in general. Two lines detailing what systems you have is one thing, as people said it's those who post everything that are obnoxious. Like, when I see their mouse or Airport hub listed, and all of their "pet names" for the computers, and their expensive software, etc. I kind of like how Apple's forums deal with it: they let you list one computer and it's specs in your ID block next to the post. That way people can tell what you're running without being bothered by it. Admittedly it's been a couple of years so they may have changed that.

Muahaha! :D My solution to the problem of excessive sigs.

since you can hide the sigs does that mean we can leave our specs in the sig?

See, now your sig is funny, though. And while we don't like specs in sigs, we do like funny or artsy sigs. :) Or sexy sigs. And sometimes sexy specs. But not sexy specs in sigs.

yeah, I got the point. but with keira in this thread every other attempt of "sexy" is gonna pale in comparison. now i need a smart quote or words of wisdom or something boring. i'm going to be on vacation for two weeks starting on friday. probably that gives me some inspiration.

I can supply you with some of the quotes I've used if you like - I always rotate through my favorite ones every couple months. Quotes are a very personal thing though, as they have a different impact and meaning depending on the individual.

Some people just like complaining, that's all. I don't understand those people - surely they have something better to do, or something more constructive to focus their energies on? Ah well, what can you do... it's made for a good discussion if nothing else!
