Sprint is always the worst to buy b.c it only works with sprint.

Not true anymore, Sprint's iphone is the same as the unlocked iphone as long as you get it unlocked from Sprint. The Sprint iphone will work on all carriers once unlocked. Resale value on it should be as high as the others now, if listed properly.

I doubt the general public knows this because the sprint phone still has the lowest resale value.

I was just saying the Sprint iphone works on other carriers now, unlike what matt said.

I understand that part though, people on Craigslist always think I'm lying about it working on other carriers. If selling, all you have to do is list it as unlocked and list it will work with Verizon, AT&T, Tmobile, Sprint, etc...

Mine have sold with no problem.

If you buy a sprint 6s from Apple full price will it be unlocked? That id like to know.

No just the general public. A lot of us on here did not know that. If you buy it for full retail is it automatically unlocked?

Can you provide any links to proof this works? Everything I am finding says yes sprint will unlock the phone, but it still will not work on other networks. (these are 3 day old articles I'm finding from forums).

You definitely should google it. I thought it was pretty common knowledge. There use to be a thread here titled sprint domestic unlock or something like that.

I'm on my phone or I would post some links.

I can confirm it is indeed true and that my sprint iPhone has worked with cricket, att and verizon sims.

Are you confirming that buying the sprint phone full price from Apple will get you an unlocked phone?

thanks. So that is what I have found where people saying they unlock the phone, but still won't allow it to be activated on other networks.

Well there are a lot of pages to read. I can 100% say for sure that if you get a DOmestic sim unlock from sprint on the iPhone 5s and up it will work on other carriers domestically.

The problem at first was that sprint was giving people msl codes or updating their prl which did nothing to unlock their phone.

I don't know one way another if you buy it at full price if it comes unlocked.

I know they will unlock as long as the phone is not under contract and no payment plans though.

If it's unlocked then it's allowed to work on other networks (that's basically the purpose and meaning of being unlocked).

I got T-Mobile Gold iPhone 6 64GB last year. I pre-ordered it. It arrived on launch day. It was unlocked. I'm using it on straight talk.

So did I. It's unlocked, but it's not the model that includes all LTE bands. So in many parts of Asia, you'll be unable to get on LTE networks. The so called SIM-Free model is the true world phone and Apple hasn't traditionally sold it until months afterward. There are some other benefits like a possible global warranty.

The sim-free iPhone traditional shows up between the week after Thanksgiving holiday and December 15th!

This year it could be at the start maybe? We have to see on the 11th!

I've read the posts, but I've been getting differing opinions on this. I just want a definitive answer on the following:

1) The Sim-Free iPhone has all the LTE bands you want, but it's possible that it might not be fully compatible with the US phone companies. So, if you are out of LTE range, your phone will go to 3G and not 4G. Is this accurate?

2) The T-Mobile iPhone and the Verizon iPhone are exactly the same. If you buy both unlocked at full price, there is literally no difference between the two. You can easily sell the T-Mobile iPhone as a 'Verizon' iPhone since there is no difference. Is this accurate?

Why would you sell a t-mobile phone as a Verizon iPhone?

The sim free model has all the bands of the unlocked model plus additional lte bands that make it work in parts of Asia and sprint here domestically.

It is no different other than that, so it would work with 3G and 4g.

The unlocked model doesn't have all the bands and wouldn't work on sprint and parts of other countries.

The ATT model when unlocked works on Att, T-Mobile, and verizon LTE. It supposedly doesn't have cdma radios in it according to apples website so it would only work on Verizon's LTE network, but others have said it works with 3G as well. So it's up to you to take a chance or do research if you were going that route.

No one outside of Apple really knows which models will have which bands and when they'll be available. Prior to last year, the SIM-free model (in the US) was the same as the AT&T/T-Mobile one. Then they switched it by not releasing the SIM-free model until January, and used the Sprint model to boot.

This year, who knows what they're going to do. I suspect that Apple would like to produce only one model for the US, with all of the radios and LTE bands, but they have to deal with what the carriers want too.

Maybe with the US carriers phasing out subsidies, this will allow Apple to go with a single model for the US market and hopefully it's available on day 1, but I doubt it. I suspect the best we can hope for is that the SIM-free model would be available around Thanksgiving.

But if you really want to know, send a message to that Nouveau fellow in these forums. He was the one who called the SIM-free model being the true world phone. ;)

iPhone 6 and 6 Plus have CDMA enabled.

So it looks like there are two versions of the iPhone 6S. The A1633 and the A1688.

The A1688 adds LTE band 30 as well as CDMA EV-DO Rev. A.

http://www.apple.com/iphone-6s/specs/

Additionally, it looks like their new Upgrade Program says:

  • Unlocked — choose your carrier
  • You can either pay in full or choose carrier financing.

http://www.apple.com/shop/iphone/iphone-upgrade-program

So my guess is maybe one could buy an unlocked Sprint version at launch, full price, and have it be a true world-phone version. Still don't know if this equates to a SIM-Free model.

So I wonder which model is best to purchase for resale value later on?

A1633/A1634 which has LTE Band 30 -- Which I believe is what AT&T will be using for their 2.3GHz WCS LTE deployment

--OR--

A1688/A1687 which includes CDMA EV-DO Rev A, but is missing LTE Band 30

Otherwise, all other bands are included in both.

Do you think perhaps a SIM-Free model later will include BOTH LTE Band 30 AND CDMA EV-DO Rev A?

Doubt they would make a third model just for people who need all radios at this point. I'll go A1633.

Bingo, this is the first adequate post I see here today. I think if they sell unlocked it means we can use it with big 4 carriers. So it will be without LTE 30 and with CDMA :-(. Since I don't like VZW and Sprint (las one is the worst) I'm going to buy either Att or t-mobile unlocked phone with LTE 30 full price. I'm expecting a mess with Apple upgrade zero percent loan.
