It's interesting how Apple tells developers to write new layouts specifically designed for the iPad, but then all Apple themselves provide is a blown-up iPhone UI.

That is obviously not the truth. You don't see the iPad running iOS 7. You see an iPad simulator, running pre-release software that was leaked by a guy in breach of his NDA, so there is no conclusion that you can draw from this.

So everyone daring to voice an opinion different from glorifying the iOS7 design is a whiner and idiot?!

Thanks for demonstrating how true fanboyism does look like!

Everyone drawing conclusions from a leaked pre-release version that is under NDA (for a reason) is indeed a whiner and idiot.

I think it's so sad, the total and utter lack of imagination Apple has for the iPad's screen.

Who would ever take the screen layout of a phone, blow it up to 10" and say, yes, excellent, it could not be any better.

A VASTLY larger screen, with WAY more pixels, and all you can do is enlarge the same layout.

Really Apple

That is the extent of your imagination for this Tablet Device?

I could forgive them, on day 1 of iPad1 as they did not know if it was going to be a flop. But now, years later to still have this sea of empty space with a few dead icons on it.

Makes me sad this is all they can come up with :(

not sure I want coloured blobs distracting my attention on a calendar page or something. Whether or not it's the final UI, coloured blobs? no thanks.

Read. Read. READ!

Really people is it that damn hard?

MacRumors posted an article, a very misleading article (as usual) to generate a thread full of nonsense.

The images you see ARE NOT iOS7 FOR IPAD they are the iPhone version blown up.

Skeuomorphic Scott where are YOU!!!

Am I the only one not liking the new design?

Don't get me wrong I like how Apple is making an effort to standardize the look across its apps but I am not liking this whole glass look.
Yeah you're the only one. There is absolutely zero negativity surrounding iOS 7.

No that's not what the article says. It says it's iOS 7 for iPad, however it may be a very early version.

But still, it's iOS 7 for iPad. Exhibit A: control center looks differently. Conclusion: this was designed for the iPad like this on purpose.

The images are not misleading. It's just a very early version of iOS 7 for the iPad. Simple.

it also has the ipad keyboard.

Well, it is relevant when dealing with a company that's constantly suing other companies for copying designs while doing the very same thing themselves. I agree with you that it's a none discussion if an given device looks like the same 'square' as an Apple product but it's Apple who's suing companies for using the same "shape" for crying out loud. That's ruining innovation, yes I'm talking about those silly patent wars....

I agree that patents on generic attributes such as shape and certain software characteristics are nonsense, but patents in general are necessary to be able to innovate. A patent protects the organisation in order to recoup the investment that they made into developing the new technology or feature. In that sense patents are stimulating innovation. Without patent protection, investment into R&D is too risky and many organisations would stop doing it.

With regard to the other component of your post. Apple is not the only company doing the suing. In this industry you need to play the game in order to be able to participate. Developing technology, not patenting it or not enforcing your patents is a sure recipe for your demise as a business. In other words: Apple and the others don't have any other option than to sue until the USPTO and/or the EPO change their policies.

Here a nice visual example of what is going on

first time seeing the 'contacts' icon.

its really a step backwards from all the old previous icon designs. there is just no coherent design style or element between each of the icons; it's as if they just gave each person a single icon to design recluse. do they not hire graphic designers to do these?

Why is this front page news? Can't we wait for the iPad beta to come out?

Aye!

I agree that Apple is not the only one. Even though I'm not an expert in these matters I'm aware of the existence of hundreds of small companies whom primarily goal is to sue other companies in order to earn money with lawsuits alone.

I'm not stating that Apple plays the part of Darth Vader in all of this, but it does surprise me when a company such as Apple like customers to believe that they invented lot's of stuff and are the victim here of companies steeling "their" designs. The irony, or call it blunt hypocrisy, of it all is that Apple themselves are copying design matters as well.

To certain agree I understand the value to paten stuff, if you as a company invest millions of dollars in new stuff and much of that money comes from investors you sure don't like others to walk away with the finished product. But the whole patent industry went just to far. As said before, to paten a square is just as ridiculous when you paten the human genome or the galaxy in general. Some things shouldn't be allowed to paten, that's why I'm in favor to reshape the whole patent methodology because right now the industry suffers more from these patent wars i.m.h.o. then they gain from it.

Thank the Lord its not the real thing

Cant we just be patient like the fact it wont be on our phones till fall (non-developers):D

The rear shell leak of full size ipad did not have a flash cut out, so i can ony imagine the mini will.

Ooh! Maybe the 5th gen iPad and/or 2nd gen Mini will have a flash :) The button looks legit enough for it to be a possibility.

Except for the detail that this is the iPhone version of the software. That button might not be there in the real version.

As much as I would love a flash in the iPads, or at least an awesome low light sensor. I also fear it. Because then I'll have douchebags blinding folks both directions when they hold up that monster to take a photo

No they haven't. Nothing has been provided by Apple.

Just proved the point. Which was that folks aren't reading the article. And the comments in your case,

This is NOT an official iPad iOS 7 release by Apple. It's basically a mockup created by the iPhone version and the iPad simulator.

But folks are screaming about it as if it is legit.

----------

Apple will not design 2 different interface look's, in as much as iOS6 is virtually the same on iPad / iPhone.

So, you will probably be disappointed.

Actually no iOS 6 isn't. There are a number of changes including removal and addition of buttons, moving of items from a lower toolbar to the top one and so on.

Interface is about more than the home screen. And is different as needed between the two and has been since iOS 4.3

Good point. I hope they do something different for the iPad too that actually makes better use of the extra screen space.

Yeah it is a Touch.

I agree with this criticism. I think they do need to use the screen real estate more effectively to show that the tablet is indeed different than the iPhone. Apple shouldn't be doing a blown up phone screen for iPad. That's boring and not an effective use of the extra screen real estate IMO.

I'll be dayumed if that font doesn't look amazing. It's much more readable than the current font.
