This has been an interesting thread. Glad to know we're all the same level of neurotic to a certain extent. I have arranged before me the first ever iPhone (launch day purchase) and many of the iPhones released since. iPhone OG, 3G, 4, 5 Black, 5s White, 6, and 7 Plus. I stopped at the iPhone 7 Plus, not inspired to upgrade since until the 12. I think it was the return to the 4/5 design and the Max's camera system. I just upgraded to the iPhone 12 Pro Max in Pacific Blue.
Each of the 7 iPhones in front of me look like they just came out of the box. I've always used a case, usually the official Apple leather case in saddle brown or black, and never a screen protector. I've never broken an iPhone (watched my wife and kids go through them like candy), despite using them non-stop. They are little technical marvels, and I didn't trade them in because the trade value didn't represent their worth. Besides, it's fun to take them out from time to time and look at the design evolution. Plus, they all work, and using the original iPhone OS on the OG is a trip. (If you've not held the original or a 3G/3Gs in a long time you'll be shocked at how tiny they are.)
I have fully intended to rock a baltic blue leather case on the Pro Max, but now I find I hesitate...
Here's the thing, it's just about the most beautiful piece of handheld tech, with the frosted Blue glass back, single piece glass molded raised lens platform, and polished blue stainless steel rails, that I've seen. I don't want to cover it.
I ask for an honest assessment. For those that have rocked 'em naked for years, what do your iPhones look like? Are they full of wear, scratches, and a well loved appearance? There is a difference between breaking and damaging a phone, and the phone simply accumulating the wear of life. The best thing about the saddle brown leather case is how it takes all that punishment and looks better for it. However, I don't think I'd like that "broken in look" on the iPhone's Pacific Blue rails and glass back.
Still torn, thanks for sharing everyone!
And to the OP... Go Blue!
