According to BBC Breakfast this morning, Gates is to be given the title today. I was gonna start a new thread, but I was good and searched it instead.

Been watching BBC News 24/Breakfast since 5am, looking for signs of fatigue on the presenters. Nothing. Till 6.30am, Dermont and Natasha look like they partied a little too hard last night...

Anyway, someone should send the queen an iPod or something...

So, instead of starting a new thread, you brought a thread that is 13 months old to life again? :p

So, it's official, 'sir' William and 'the lady' Melinda met the Queen earlier today:

And for all those americans who wondered if non brits could receive this order, people like Ronald Reagan, Alan Greenspan and Rudy Giuliani has received their KBW... as a 'foreigner' they're not allowed to use the 'sir' title, though...

Edit: Nice thread-recycling... :D

It's a great honor to be knighted. I think he's knighted more for his humanitarian work than for his software programs. Anyway, kudos on Bill for receiving the honour.

May I apologise for the shame that the royal family bring on on my country. A shame exemplified in the giving of a so called "knighthood" to that di*khead Bill Gates.

Philantrophist my arse! If he wan't ripping people off with his sh*t software there would be more money in peoples pockets anyway to use the way they choose.

Thank God everyone in the developing world is at least using unlicensed copies of his cr*p anyway. F*ck Bill Gates.

He's honored only for his humanitarian work.

...which of course he can afford from establishing a near-monopoly in the OS market and subsequently as many areas of the software market as possible... :(

I agree that he has been a good humanitarian, but he should be... He's been charging enough for Windows and has a pretty good monopoly on the product market for O.S. share right now. There are people that are beginning to see the light, but he's still rolling in the dough. He ought to be giving back to the community that has so kindly given him billions...

I think that he should join King Arthur and the Knights that go Ni

Bill has been now been Pythonised.

he deserves it for both his advancements in pcs and his chairtys :)

William Henry Gates III Knight of The British Empire :)

damn i wish i had a name like that :)

That is a nice picture of Bill and Melinda with the Queen. A picture of the actual ceremony would be nice. He is deserving because of his humanitarian work.

I heard on the radio that Sir Bill had some trouble opening the box that his knighthood 'medal' was in when outside with the media. The radio crew this morning were making lots of jokes about how it should have come with a 'Start' button on the front clasp. :)

Any one else think accepting a title granted by a monarchy not in tune with what it means to be American?

Anyway, in case anyone was interested. It is not permitted for a government official (military included) to hold a honorary title from a foreign entity (unless strictly allowed by congress).

I'm not against titles, but they are something that are given to the distinguished and for jobs of prominence, such as PhD’s, and yes even to the President. But anyway, way to take a society founded on principles of equality and spitting on it you monopolistic bastard.
