So my iPhone 4S just turned into a iPhone 4. Thanks Apple.

Right, because Siri being temporarily unavailable also decreased your device's speed, lowered the mp in the camera and reverted back to the old graphics performance.

I think someone tried to explain how to make a proper cup of tea. If that can crash "Heart of Gold" I'm sure it can break Siri.

It really is surprising to see Apple having so much trouble with Siri. Even more surprising is that they would release a key feature of a new device while it's still in beta, though I suppose it's nearly impossible to scale properly for such a feature without having a lot of people using it at once.

I guess this adds evidence to the theory that the reason Siri isn't on older phones is more to do with the demand it would place on servers rather than the limitations of the devices themselves.

Bingo! That's what I've been saying to the cynics all along. I'm fine not having it on my iPhone 4 because the thing I like about Apple products is that 90% of the time, they just plain work. They remove a lot of the bull-crap so you can focus on whatever it is you need the device to assist you to do.

I'm fine with Siri being a beta and I just hope that over the next few months the engineers get this figured out so that the servers can handle more traffic and Siri can become available on the iPhone 4.

Just Turn that B**** off!

When you turn off Siri all the other internal commands get turned back on. And are obviously much snappier! :)

You, sir, owe me a new keyboard. As I have just spat out my cup of tea all over it with laughter.

Siri is alive and well here in London. Just said "hi" and it replied, then asked it for the value of Pi which it did via Wolfram Alpha just fine. Dictation worked too.

Maybe it's just me being too critical but I'm not sure a company as large as Apple should be releasing a key feature on a phone in a beta stage of development. I mean they sold SIRI as a key selling point and a reason to buy the iPhone 5.. yet it's still in beta? Hmm..

Because competitors like Google never release software in beta

tbh i think the iPhone 4S was a last minute change and the 5 was supposed to come out but it got delayed for some reason or they thought they could push it back and have the Siri speak for itself ... literally. lol

Funny how all the ads currently running (pun intended) don't even mention a beta. In fact, it's apple's #1 selling feature of the 4S.

The ads on TV certainly don't. But if folks do a little research ahead of time before committing to such an expensive product they will certainly be aware that it is beta.

Impulse buyers on the other hand...

My guess is William Shatner finally picked up his iPhone 4S and ended up causing Siri to commit suicide by posing a logical fallacy.

Three stories on the front page at the moment are about problems with the 4S...

May have labeled it as a beta, but they sure don't market it as a beta in their TV commercials! Treading a fine line there...

Crazy that after I get home from running a couple errands that I check MacRumors to see that the front page contains two articles on both of the issues I had while out. I couldn't text using Siri due to the outage and my phone calls using the headset contained a ton of echo like white noise. Good to know I'm not the only one.

Uh oh, there's a problem. Can you try again?

The whole idea of requiring network connectivity to use features that are local to phone is flawed.
Setting an alarm, dialing a contact, playing music - those shouldn't require the assistance of Apple's servers, even if it's building a catalog of your voice to get better at assisting you.
Remember that you can turn Siri off and use the old voice control functionality that debuted with the 3GS.

This is unacceptable.

Hiw can Apple release the buggy slow mess that is iOS 5, release the 4S late, with Siri & Audio bugs?

How the **** did this **** get out?

Apple is no better than ****ing Microsoft. And they charge more.
