You also paid for Beta software, how's that make sense? I can't believe Apple got away with Siri being a MAJOR selling point of the 4s and then has the ease of calling it Beta so that any problem that comes up can be simply pushed aside as a beta issue.

Just doesn't make sense to me and I think people are kinda just being spoon fed pretty much BS by Apple....but just my opinion.

Have you ever noticed Google software?

When you turn off Siri all the other internal commands get turned back on. And are obviously much snappier! :)

When you turn siri off it reverts back to the old voice commands which could only do a few things like call people, and play music.

I think Siri has far too much dependency on the online servers, they should at the very least, allow you to use some of your space on your iPhone for Siri.

From what I gather it seems like it needs to connect to a server every time you ask it to do something.

So, you expect Beta software to be bug free? Good Grief!

mmmh i dont think they meant during the keynote that the "beta" of siri is supposed to be full of bugs but that they will keep adding new keyfeatures to it over time. who on earth would release a beta full of bugs as the key selling point of a new phone. let alone apple of all ...

all good

he's working fine for me here in the UK. has been all day too.

People who use beta software should expect problems like these.

Simple as. Beta does not equal final release!

Who said its the key selling point of the phone? Just because it is there, doesn't mean its a key point.

iPhone4S is a good upgrade in terms of the overall internals. That's about it. Siri is just as good as when you want to use it. It is definitely not the key point of selling iPhone4S.

And why is beta software full of bugs? I don't know. But I get a hint... it is 'beta'.

Apple being RIMmed? Shame, I really hoped they would be smart enough to get something figured out on a local level with the providers. If you want to get some fancy new service set up you shouldn't make it depend on a single server or global use, but decentralize it, set it up at every region or even better: service provider so you don't end up with snowballing effects like RIM.

Then again, who knows maybe that is the plan after they perfect the server side of things and take it out of BETA.

Hmmm... Apple best get this fixed quick or it may turn out to be another BBM scenario...
They will get it fixed soon. Life will go on.

We will realize that a day or so without Siri was not the end of the world.

At least until the next horrific Siri outage.

This is unacceptable.

Hiw can Apple release the buggy slow mess that is iOS 5, release the 4S late, with Siri & Audio bugs?

How the **** did this **** get out?

Apple is no better than ****ing Microsoft. And they charge more.

Do you even have an iPhone?

well Siri is the only commercial of the iPhone 4S ive ever seen on tv and its all over the promotional images at the stores. i dont read anything about the better camera or A5 chip

Bingo! That's what I've been saying to the cynics all along. I'm fine not having it on my iPhone 4 because the thing I like about Apple products is that 90% of the time, they just plain work. They remove a lot of the bull-crap so you can focus on whatever it is you need the device to assist you to do.

I'm fine with Siri being a beta and I just hope that over the next few months the engineers get this figured out so that the servers can handle more traffic and Siri can become available on the iPhone 4.

Mat

This.

Siri's outage is from just the 4S available in 30 countries. You know how many 4s there are out there already on top of this new and ridiculously fast selling phone? If Apple released Siri for the 4 and 4S, this outage would have been second day after release, if not the first.

So, the iPhone 4S' biggest new feature isn't that big of a feature, plus it doesn't even work properly.

Apple said it was a Beta so we shouldn't be allowed to complain. How much more time would it have needed to not be called a Beta? The iPhone 4S was already late compared to previous iPhones and the biggest disappointment of all iPhones.

I do own a 4S and usually don't complain easily, but this time, I think it's fair to say Apple screwed up. At least compared to their own usual standards. It's too easy to call anything a Beta to shut people up.

You didn't really expect Apple to get an online feature working did you?

They haven't done that since iTools.

Reagrdless of what state Siri is in, Apple should never have placed so much prssure on the back end of the system in one go.

This is not down to the iPhone or Siri, it's down to Apple being terrible at sorting out servers at their end. They will always be the same. They never seem to have any additional space for high demand.

Apple = Fail

Actually its Apple succeeding way beyond it's own sales estimates. The reason Siri keeps having outages is because there are now so many iPhone 4S' in the wild and everyone is using Siri, i.e., is more than the so-called "gimmick" it some here hailed it as.

Now imagine if Apple had let iPhone 4 and iPad 2 user in on the beta test too! Siri would be silent for sure. It's why it's iPhone 4S only for now.

Look for a blow out quarterly report in Jan.

Apple = $400+ a share and has more money than the US Government.

Hurry Back Siri

You paid for the device, not the FREE service that's been out for a few hours. Cry some more because you just can't live your life without voice control for a few hours. POOR YOU!

So, you expect Beta software to be bug free? Good Grief!

Buggy beta programs are one thing. Beta programs that don't work at all are another.

Also, using that beta software as your major selling point to get people to buy something that's otherwise just a spec bump from the prior model is quite different than just simply releasing a beta program.

If they're going to hype it up and market it as a major selling point, then people have a right to criticize it if it fails.

Who said its the key selling point of the phone? Just because it is there, doesn't mean its a key point.

I've seen 4 iPhone 4S commercials. 2 of them highlighted Siri, 1 focused on iCloud, and the other focused on the camera. Let's not kid ourselves - Siri is the killer feature for this phone.
