Why not make Siri useful instead of these pointless additions? She can't do basic takes like play music that is on my phone. The most frustrating part is she even repeats what I ask for, but says she can't find anything or doesn't understand what I'm asking for! "Sorry Josh, I don't understand play album Billy Joel Greatest Hits." You just said it perfectly! Why don't you understand? Siri was so promising, but she's been so stagnant.
And I am pretty sure she could never understand this: "hey Siri, play 僕たちはひとつの光 performed by μ's".

WTF Apple, srs? Fail.
I actually did this earlier today, and she asked something along the lines of "For which sport?" and only listed basketball, and curiously, hockey. Come on Apple. Good grief…

Maybe it's because I am used to talking to toddlers. Or maybe it's because I was such a science fiction nut growing up and am used to the idea of talking to AI, but I usually can get the information I need from Siri and find Siri very useful.

I ask very specific questions and using very stilted speech to break down a complex question into simple tasks for Siri. Sometimes I do a two step process asking one question and building on the first answer to refine the second question to get the answer I seek. I did this yesterday with math.

My daughter has a ton of summer math homework to do and my fraction skills were very rusty, which made checking the homework challenging for me. Using Siri, I was able to get her to calculate the fraction problem, which gave me the answer as a decimal and then I asked her to convert it to a fraction form. Thanks to Siri, I polished the rust off my brain and was able to calculate the rest and finish checking the work on my own. I was so grateful to Siri for saving me the time of looking for my old math books or wandering around the Internet.

Siri has access to enormous amounts of information but getting to it is very much like speaking to a small child. Sometimes children know a great deal but you have to know the right way to ask them if you want the answers.
^^^This.
Pretty much shows how Siri works in its current form. I like your story.
So perhaps I can still keep "Siri and dictation" disabled in restriction.

This is what they spend their time programming? Seriously?

I can imagine their meetings:

Hey guys, you know what's a great idea? There's this pokemon phenomenon going on, we should capitalize on it!

Okay, cool, let's program a bunch of canned responses into Siri!

Cool! Okay, Johnson get on it, should be done in like 30 minutes right?

okay.

Now what? Fix Siri? Nah, meeting adjourned!

You forgot the part 2 of the meeting...

Employee: "What about the hardware upgrades?"
Cook: "Nah, let's just rebadge everything and put a higher number"

Someone at Apple really has a weird sense of humor, or is this an attempt to make the AI more "human". Because if it is the latter, it is really not working. Stop with the stupid jokes Apple!

Careful Apple. Om Malik is going to blow his top! Instead of adding this to Siri, they could have cranked out a new laptop. Why doesn't Apple wake up before it's too late?

adding a few simple answers and copy and paste some pokemon information? probably took a hour for two guys to throw together and develop. hardly a significant impact on the type of teams apple puts together and I'm pretty sure 2 mid level developers will be a massive impact on the status of the MacBook. especially when its a strong chance we will be getting a update for the MBP this fall.
Apple literally pumps billions into R&D for their products, i don't think a few people from the department that handles siri is going to off set that with such a small simple addition.

if anything, the 3 billion dollars that apple is going to make off pokemon Go will be more then enough to pay for the amount of time spent on this little siri update.
i mean if they spent 10Billion on R&D this year, and they got 3Billion back from pokemon Go alone, thats a pretty good investment for a single app. deffinetaly warrants a little bit of attention in my opinion. i wouldnt be surprise if they make more form pokemon go then they have put towards the R&D for this Macbook pro update, it would be as if pokemon basically just paid for that update for the MBP.

it is just disgusting. all this money and Siri does not know a sh.t about Olympics but they made an effort to recognize a game? really Apple? While we are at this, how about info on Formula 1 which is like one of the most popular racing sport in the world? instead of that we are getting more and more stupid emojis :(

It really is ridiculous and although i'm not in the 'apple is doomed" camp, I have to question some of the decisions they're making with Siri among other things. Then again they are the most valuable company in the world and I'm a nerd on a tech forum but whatever. Even my wife who doesn't care what she uses knows Siri sucks and is a joke, do Apple execs relaly think Siri is a usefull tool for anyone, for anything?

What happens if you ask "Is Pokemon CIA funded?", or "Does Pokemon collate internal pictures of people's houses for big data purposes?" ?

Siri is a contrived, cutesy feature designed for the easily amused. A dud compared to the highly useful Google Now.

You get men in black knocking on your door at night..then you are never seen again. :D

Normally I defend Siri as a useful bit of fun... but when you want to use it seriously.......

"Hey Siri, what song is playing?"

*Siri patiently listens*

"I believe this is XXXXXXX... one of the catchier numbers" (I start to cringe already at the joke even though Siri has got it bang on correct)

*Press on the song expecting it to play in Apple Music... you know, THE BUILT IN APP I PAY £10 A MONTH FOR.

"You don't have Shazam installed"

ARGGHHHHHHHHHHH!

Indeed. Folks don't seem to understand the most basic things of how software and hardware is produced.Or even how a major corporation is run, e.g., they think that somehow every decision is run through Tim Cook, or that the people involved in signing up music talent for exclusives or signing a producer to make Planet of the Apps, are the same people who would be designing hardware.
I agree. But when people see Apple's focus shifting away from the professional market, towards irrelevant gimmicks then it's hardly surprising people mock and get irate. Perception often holds more power than truth.
