I sure would appreciate the option of installing Siri to the phone (or iPad). I'd spend a gig to not have to use the internet for most tasks. My data service in Chicago sucks and having to wait 20 seconds to hear what time it is is extremely frustrating.

Can't wait to not use Siri on my iPad too!

Siri is too slow, but maybe on Wifi it will be better than over 3g

I really hope this is true!
It would make the iPad a lot more usable.
The microphone on the new iPad is superb; it has very good reception and noise canceling. I don't think it will have any issues using SIRI at a more comfortable and further distance than with an iPhone.

The report speculates that Siri for iPad may be exclusive to the new third-generation models, and it is unclear whether Apple will tout the feature at next week's Worldwide Developers Conference or if it will elect to keep it under wraps until closer to the public launch of the software later this year.
Isn't it obvious? Of course Siri will only be available on the "new" iPad. That's how Apple does things. It doesn't matter whether the iPad 2 is capable of running it or not. Apple will only allow it to install on the newest model they sell. Just watch.

If they do that it will be VERY slimy. ipad 2 and 3 have the exact same CPUs...

Awesome! I'm hoping iOS6 will bring Siri out of beta and allow 3rd party apps to play with her too!

Siri is a big girl!

I know this has been posted as a rumor before, but I think Siri will also be a feature of Mountain Lion. I just hope it does more than just dictation, although dictation would be nice.

Siri needs to be able launch apps and developers need to be able to get at the APIs for Siri. If that is announced at WWDC next week, it will be huge.

I hope they make Siri work locally for common things as well.

valid point that last one

maybe it is time Siri was pulled out of the beta basement

Pesonally, I believe that "beta Siri" was created soley to create data points by developing knowledge of languages, accents, grammar dictation and usage. That's why it has the "beta" indicator. Apple couldn't use just devs to test the beta because they needed as many data points as possible.

I think a year is probably enough time to create the necessary data, so the beta will probably be removed. I don't know how much of this will happen this year or next, but I'm guessing by the end of 2013 Siri will be released on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac (probably in that order) and will also include 3rd party support.

Hopefully this means the iPad will also get the apple bundled clock weather and stocks app and they will sync across devices via iCloud also

get outta here ... still using the same boring icon grid i see

edit: oops, mockup ^^ phew

Let's hope that Apple also allows ipad2 users to enjoy Siri as well.

It's not like the iPad 3 has a better microphone or processor anyway.

I agree. I hoped that this would come to the iPad 1 (hah...) but not supporting the iPad 2 would be pretty bad. Although maybe this is Apple's way of saying the iPad 3 is new and has Siri and the iPad 2 doesn't, trying to push more users to upgrade.

But here's hoping for some older support! It's not like the iPad 2 couldn't handle it, hell maybe the iPad 1 could if it really wanted to. iPhoto sure works on it.

"Siri, how good is the microphone on the iPad?"

"I found these music stores near you who's reviews mention microphones."

"Oh, guess that still answers my question."

Yep, here's hoping it's better than the crappy dictation voice that is supposed to enable me to hands free type. I don't talk like I have a bag of marbles in my mouth but thats how it comes out in type once I am done.....:(

If it would ever make it's way to the seccond gen iPad I would bet my money on Apple charging money for an upgrade (for first and seccond gen). If it's gonna be a free upgrade I'm pretty sure that siri feature would be for the new iPad only. Simply because they possibly want to make it more distinctive, as there's not that much of difference for a typical customer, though I'd love to be wrong as I'm a happy iPad2 user :).

the iPad's lockscreen/homescreen needs to be redesigned (it's just a oversized iPod today).

i couldnt agree more, so much wasted space. i'm on my 2nd iPad and 4th iPhone, the UI hasnt changed much since 2007. its kinda meh now. where is the innovation apple, surprise me ;)

It should be better than the mockup

It seems to me that if Apple chose to leave Siri off the new iPad during its release it was because they wanted a refined way of presenting the UI specifically on that platform and since iOS 6 was already in the works at the time, it makes sense that the major effort would have been spent during that development cycle to make it happen there for the iPad form factor (not backport something to iOS 5 that was nearing EOL).

Now, if Apple spent all that time refining the iPad version of the SIRI interface in iOS 6 (and disappointing the new iPad adopters hoping it would be there in the process) only to have it still look like some iPhone-sized, shoe-horned in interface, that would be somewhat foolish on their part. They could have implemented that mockup interface with minimum effort into iOS 5 well before the iPad launch.

Needless to say, I'm hoping for something more impressive than that mockup.
