Pesonally, I believe that "beta Siri" was created soley to create data points by developing knowledge of languages, accents, grammar dictation and usage. That's why it has the "beta" indicator. Apple couldn't use just devs to test the beta because they needed as many data points as possible.

I think a year is probably enough time to create the necessary data, so the beta will probably be removed. I don't know how much of this will happen this year or next, but I'm guessing by the end of 2013 Siri will be released on iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac (probably in that order) and will also include 3rd party support.

Another thought to add to this. I don't know all the technical compenents/limitations to siri.

Maybe in the near future Siri won't be required to use the server to function. It would make sense if that were being done as part of the "beta" so that Apple could gather as much info as possible. I think Apple would still like to have at least some of the siri commands to be sent through the server just to continue to fine tune things, and update the database as new slang, and products come out and evolve etc. But if you can't connect to the server at that time then Siri would duitifully just process the command all on her own. That would solve a lot of complaints.

id be glad to see siri. id be even more glad if i could do anything with it in canada. right now siri on the iphone 4s is crippled. it wont let you do anything related to searching locations or maps.

i cant ask it for directions from Toronto to hamilton..
but i can ask it for directions to Toronto to Buffalo since Buffalo is in the usa..

so stupid..

I hope this doesn't happen with current devices. Siri is the one exclusive thing we have to show people we own iPhone 4S and not one of the older models. Siri on the next iPad makes sense since we'll have other distinguishing features.

Oh sorry, I didn't know that you needed something to show off.

Well we know Siri can run on any A5 without any problems so not running on the iPad 2 is apple way of making people buy something new even if they really don't need it. iOS does not seem to bring that much excitement from the iPhone side maybe it will bring something new on the iPad or OSX.

Lets see if it does more on iOS 6 than its doing on iOS 5.

if 3rd Party API's are coming to Siri, then I think this will have to be shown at WWDC to give devs more of a heads up for iPad development

IF the accuracy isn't improved it will become an unused feature just like it is on the iPhone. Not much more than a novelty.

3rd party API's are what Siri really needs to be a killer app. Right now she's far from Rosie from the Jetsons.

I think accuracy and functionality will be a big leap forward with IOS6. Siri really wasn't fully baked, and it's current implementation isn't a far cry from what it was like when it was a stand-along app in the app store. Actually, there are some things about the original Siri app that I still think were better/worked better.

Too bad IOS doesn't have fun names. I mean Cougar: Siri would be fun, cause I think she's gonna be more grown up and hot this time around.

Yay! That will be a welcomed feature for my iPad.

But it sill begs the question, why didn't they include it with the iPad at it's launch and only had dictation?

Or better why did the iPad 2 not get dictation its not like it needs that much processor that an A5 can't handle. Apple been Apple that is why.

I’d like to see _some_ of Siri, particularly device and app control, done locally. Needing connectivity, a server round-trip, etc., to set a timer is a pretty clunky design.

Weather from locally cached weather data, timers, searching local email/cal/notes, some basic calculator functions, camera control, wireless control (WiFi/BT), could all be implemented as “Siri Local”.

Because Apple has always been a little clumsy about maintaining parity between iOS on the iPhone and the iPad. Hopefully, with iOS 6, the distinctions between what features are available on the two devices will finally end.

haha, that's funny, but serious maybe this is what the whole new map system will be about, no more of those problems, ask it something and no matter where you are it will give you directions and visuals. Anything would be better than the limited Google app built in. It was good on iPhone 3gs but now its just lame and old.

But who knows with Apple they seem to be doing a lot lately even for them.

You can jailbreak iOS devices to make them do a lot of things (e.g. multitasking). Apple is seemingly capricious about stuff, sure. But we can't automatically say they do this out of greed.

No reason it shouldn't have been included when the iPad 3 launched.

If there were no reason, I'm sure apple would ave included it, don't you think?

My guess is that they need iOS 6 to make it work. I just hope it works using WiFi since I haven't a clue if Siri is restricted to the iPhones data stream or if it uses WiFi also.

WooHoo!
More data mining for Apple! :D

When you use Siri, the things you say will be recorded and sent to Apple to process your requests. Your device will also send Apple other information, such as your first name and nickname; the names, nicknames, and relationship with you (e.g., “my dad”) of your address book contacts; and song names in your collection (collectively, your “User Data”). All of this data is used to help Siri understand you better and recognize what you say. It is not linked to other data that Apple may have from your use of other Apple services. By using Siri, you agree and consent to Apple’s and its subsidiaries’ and agents’ transmission, collection, maintenance, processing, and use of this information, including your voice input and User Data, to provide and improve Siri and other Apple products and services.

Honestly it's cool but I'd rather have a new interface of ios 6.

iOS is boring
It's not meant to be exciting, it's meant to work.. Well. And that's what it does. Go Android if you want some live wallpaper :p

If Siri is launched in WDDC for the new iPad, then all signs point to an early release of iPhone 5 since Siri was a major selling point for the 4S.

Siri on iPad is great! But I hope iOS6 doesn't look exactly close to iOS 5... Kinda getting tired of very very small changes here and there.

Isn't it obvious? Of course Siri will only be available on the "new" iPad. That's how Apple does things. It doesn't matter whether the iPad 2 is capable of running it or not. Apple will only allow it to install on the newest model they sell. Just watch.

I'm sure iPad 2 doesn't have the capabilities to run Siri because they didn't know what it would take to run it 2 years ago. So, they couldn't include what was needed. They obviously recently discovered how to make it work, and needed to include hardware as well as a major upgrade to the iOS.

With the great leaps in technology, I'd be surprised if iOS 6 will even run on the old iPad 2, let alone Siri.

Having Siri on the iPad would be great, but I would also like to see native weather and calculator apps on it too. I never understood why the iPad IPSW didnt come with these.
