Meanwhile they can't be bothered to upgrade Quick Time 7 with its legacy codecs and ease of use to be 64-bit because, well, damn, Apple just can't be bothered with any app that people actually use. Meanwhile, we have new SFX in all of our programs, built-in to guarantee disrupting your workflow.

Pretty negative responses so far, but I welcome feature parity between iOS and macOS, even if it’s for smaller things like these.

Useless crap, especially Siri shortcuts, I really have a hard time getting Shortcuts.
Prefer stuff like APFS, or even Darkmode, not this stuff.
SCOOP: Apple to Replace APFS at Behest of Random MacRumors User

i wish apple would improve macos spellcheck. give it parity with ios. had i typed this in ios and not macos, you would see several capital letters but instead there are none.
Or right-click for word suggestions as Mac has no clue, but Google always suggests correct spelling.

Apple sells a very nice Mac mini, which was updated in late 2018.

I own a 6-core 2018 Mac Mini... very impressive piece of hardware for $900 refurbed. It runs 16 POE cameras at 1080p/15fps at 6% CPU. The 7th gen and up Intel procs have built-in hevc decoding which crushes h.264/h.265 streams. I could go higher than 1080p, but for my cameras it's just more disk and overhead on my NAS.

Realistically, how many people actually use apps to access social media on MacOS? (9to5mac made the same point about being able to limit use of social media apps, but about the iOS feature and the rewriting here is a little awkward)

If this isn't baked into safari and capable of monitoring usage of individual websites/URLs, its a failure.
It totally supports safari. It also does on iOS. I use it that way. I use facebook and Youtube only in safari.

More useless features on macOS - remember when there were reasons to look forward to a new version of OS X?
The truth is, with sub 10% marketshare on the desktop/laptop market, they can't put money into MacOS development.

If Apple had the creativity, they would do something so great on MacOS, that it would essentially force consumers to have a mac. For me, there's a huge draw compared to Windows, but it's not enough for the commoner to switch over. A good start would be improving graphics performance for gaming. Mac has for years been outrageously behind in GPU performance. Anyone who does any gaming at all must own a PC.

Every time i look into the library of Siri Shortcuts i dont see any benefit to the feature.
Then again, siri is useless for me other than asking it the time or weather. It fails on every other thing I ask it to do, so i dont.

agree completely. Siri shortcuts are just slower than doing it myself or have really no purpose for how i use an iPhone

The only thing I prefer about Mac is it is mostly less trouble because Apple makes both the software and hardware, additionally in corporate environments there is far less meddlesome corporate spyware on Macs.

Funny, when I joined these forums I wanted to switch to mac, now i dont think I care anymore

To run Mac OS you need a Mac. Does Apple still make Macs?

The top of the line Mac Pro is 6 years old with 4+ year old hardware. The Macbook Pro has keys that stick. The Mac mini is MIA. The iMacs have 5200RPM hard drives that I had in my Mac 10 years ago and replaced with SSDs. Shouldn't all Mac come standard with SSDs in 2019?. I am still using my 2008 Mac Pro and am waiting for a compelling upgrade.

How does the worlds most valuable company forget to do what brought them to the dance?
I guess the heroin of iPhone profit has killed the golden Apple of innovation. "Can't innovate my ass" is right.
Does Apple still make Macs? Yes. Apple has updated the Macs that comprise 95% of market share within the last 9 months. Mac Pro will be updated this year so I hope you’ve been saving your money over the last 11 years since your last purchase. At $50/month you’d have $6,600 ready and waiting; that will easily cover the base model :)

iMac obviously has Fusion and SSD drives available, but at $1,199 and $1,299, not $1,099. If you don’t want anyone to have the option of buying anything but an SSD drive, of course Apple could cancel the HDD/Fusion SKUs, and then the base model will be the SSD you want, for $1,299. But realize others will complain that Apple’s raising prices. (Actually they will not have, rather just have eliminated lower-performing models but I digress).

btw it’s 5400 rpm not 5200, not to be particular but I’m curious; I constantly see complainers making this exact same mistake. Whose list of talking points are you using, that you all make this same error? Obviously it’s somewhat out of date, feel free to cross Mac mini off the list in any case. The overused innovation/Schiller “CIMA” complaints are evergreen though, no one could ever tire of those

Having delved into it, I stand corrected. The controls for individual apps and websites should be way less hidden, however, not hidden a couple of menus deep in a non-obvious way. Hopefully they make improvements all round.

Am looking forward to all the iOS games that can be ported to the macOS with Marzipan. Hope games we already purchased can be run on both like the way Steam works, and when they run on the Mac they can take advantage of a desktop GPU for higher quality settings.

Don't look in the library, there's not much there. Instead look elsewhere such as the shortcuts subreddit. There are tons of user created shortcuts you can download to do all manner of things. You can make requests too if you're looking for some specific functions.
You also have to add shortcuts to the shortcuts app by going in to siri in the settings. From there you can add even more. Not very intuitive putting them there. And you can add more shortcut options by going in to the various apps themselves and adding them to shortcuts. It would be nice if all shortcut options were contained within the shortcut app, but they're not.

I think most people would be surprised by how much you can really do with shortcuts.

If all you ever do is look in the shortcuts app and library only then yes, you'll be very disappointed.

Soon enough, I expect the only difference between macOS and iOS to be floating windows and the menu bar. I'd never go back to macOS myself, but I don't think this is going to sit well with the legacy users on this site.

Actually they are 5400 RPM hard drives. I can't defend it, but average Joe might not care as much as you do.

Apple are working on a new Mac Pro and I'm sure you know that. They admitted to ****ing up, so let's not go there until they've shown us what they're working on.

Yes, all Macs should have SSDs as standard, but I don't want to pay an extra £500 for more storage capacity so I'd rather take a Fusion Drive if they can't offer at least 512 GB of SSD capacity without affecting their normal profit margins. And that's what I did when I bought my 27-inch iMac.

Thats very helpful thank you. However, if a feature requires this much effort to make it useful, isnt there something not well designed about the feature?
