A larger iPad would find a market in the over 50 crowd. Trust me... your vision at 50, 60, and 70+ will not be as good as when you are 20, 30, and 40. The drawback would not be size but weight. Apple would need to keep the weight close if not = to the current iPad.

this is definitely not a handheld device

It could be used as a home entertainment device though. I could actually see a use for this one, for example for families that have a stationary computer for work and office stuff, and then this one for games, videos (oh yes!), and maybe for clear viewing of a recipe while cooking.

Oh, yes, that too. Easier to use iBooks on such a size, while maintaining the simplicity that OS X doesn't quite achieve, or any other desktop OS for that matter.

That's funny, but it is probably going to get censored just like the "**************************" posts.

Thanks. :) I don't see why it would be removed; it's not like the OP was asking an honest question or saying anything of genuine value. You could paste his comment in any other article on this site, and it would fit. If you're not interested don't comment—I'm happy to introduce the anti-meme.

I know I may be in the minority, but this is what I had wanted since the beginning: the SUPERPad!

Probably would have been too unwieldy when the first iPad came out, but hopefully it can be made light enough now?

Sounds like the Macbook Air line is turning into a convertible notebook, with a detachable iPad. Makes sense since Apple couldn't conceivably make a retina Air without overlapping with the MBP series.

...
I haven't once seen/heard anyone say, "I just need my tablet as big as a laptop."
...

Here is one: I WOULD LOVE A TABLET LARGE ENOUGH TO ALLOW ME TO COMFORTABLY READ MAGAZINES (ZINIO), READ STANDARD PDFS AND BROWSE THE WEB WITHOUT TOO MUCH SCROLLING.

12.9" would be perfect for me.

(The Mini is not all that much larger than my Android phone - a 5.5" Lenovo K900.)

Maybe they're testing 13" touch screens for computers that swivel or disconnect or something, that'd make a lot more sense to me than a 13" iPad.

This bigger iPad would make much more sense if it actually ran OS X. They could call it the "MacPad" or something. Fully-functional Macintosh computer, specialized to work with touch screen (onscreen keyboard, etc.)

It's all about the software, if Apple can get that right, the iPad Max (or whatever) would be a complete success. A 12.9 inch iPad would be very capable.

With the right software enhancements, such a beast could completely destroy the PC market. Whatever is left of it.

Some of these comment remind me of when my kids were little and watched "Barney and Friends." My friends would say, "Man I can't stand that show." And I would say, "It's not made for you. My kids love it though."

So, if this doesn't appeal to you, by all means don't buy it, it's not made for you. But there are plenty of us who have been asking for this very thing since the days of iPad 1.

And please don't reply saying "so a larger iPad is like Barney..." because that's stupid of course ;-)

It the diagonal measurement. The iPad has a 4:3 aspect ratio (which means the screen is not as wide but is higher) versus the 16:10 aspect ratio of the MacBook Air.

Makes sense, although the render does still seem to show it just as wide as the Macbook, if not more. Perhaps the render is correct and it's a optical illusion more or less, but it just seems so huge just comparing the screen on that iPad to that Macbook Air.

that is marvelous, but ...

I was waiting for that, but there should be some upgrades.

1. Icon and text size should be customized

2. Icons shouldn't be arranged by itself, we should put the icons and folders wherever we want on the screen. for ex. we could leave a blank row or blank between icons.

3. Also iOS7 should be customized. ( colors etc ) They could add theme option.

a few more options may be added. but these must be done ..

Of course they are testing a large iPad

They are probably testing all kinds of sizes. It would be irresponsible not to.

But it doesn't mean we'll see one in stores.

This must be the intended size for the iBoard.
