iPad Pro. Now that's an oxymoron. Kinda like Tinker Toys Pro or Barbie Doll Pro.

Lmao ouch!

Thumbs up on this one soley for the sting you delivered!

I understand what you are saying. But it could also work like this:
Apple could release something like a maccover for the new ipad pro' s.
And develop some kind of keyboard that connects through smartconnector to the ipad pro.
The keyboard could have x86 /mac os hw inside.

When you connect the keyboard , you can choose between macos(monitor) mode without touchscreen capabilities and with keyboard/trackpad controll, or ios mode with touchscreen controll and the basic keyboard capabities that the smart keyboard has right now.

I was always expecting them to create a docking monitor. Like you'd slide your iPad into the side of an Apple Thunderbolt Display, and it would give you a bigger screen and all your IO right there.

When the tablets in the display, it witches to a Mac OS UI layer. When you pull it out, it switches back to an iOS view layer.

This is so ridiculous that it's almost funny. Selling things at inflated prices that people are willing to pay is STILL ripping people off!! The fact that they have a return policy has nothing to do with ripping people off. Just because people are willing to pay the price doesn't mean they're not getting ripped off. Plenty of examples of that in day-to-day life. Not many companies make 50% profit margins.

Too funny... No, Apple is not ripping people off. Apple products may be beyond your value requirements or means, but for millions they are not. For me Apple products are well-priced for the value they offer, as is true for millions of others.

"Not many companies make 50% profit margins."

Don't exaggerate. They're a tad below 40%, which is not unusual for gross (after COGS) profit margin. Net (after OH, G&A, etc) profit margins are in the 20% range. Many companies make far more. The 40,000 employee company I worked for as a systems engineer insisted on GPMs of 80% and large potential customer base before any project I proposed and pitched could get off the ground.

people who usually say it's a rip off don't know quality when they see it...

We all buy expensive cars then as well, and if u wanna say Mac's are a rip-off, then I can also say your car is a rip off as well :) because it's $60,000

Thanks for checking in, Tim.

Apple has to provide something more than just 'thinner' to push significant sales to the iPad lineup.

The execs have poked fun at MR commenters in their presentations before (hair force one thing, tucked in shirts). But, have we ever tried to narrow down and figure out who might be an Apple Exec on here? They must be lurking amongst us.

You (and apparently many other people) think you want it because you haven't tried it. A full desktop OS works poorly on a tablet, it requires a whole tablet OS to live inside it and tablet apps. It's a hybrid solution that just doesn't work. Buy a Mac, if you need a Mac.
So dismissive of what other people want, there are always many use cases for a product and they might not all match your subset.
If you are using a touchscreen device in "laptop" mode, then a mouse or trackpad is welcome. As others often point out, when using something with a keyboard, why would you want to stretch your arm out in front of you (not my view, I use a mix of keyboard and touchscreen on my laptop and fine for the occasional touch).

Many people do just that... They like the hybrid mode. of docking something with a psychical keyboard. Using touch for some stuff, using physical keyboard for others...

It's kind of multi-mixed... What gets me,, is when they un-dock, they have no problem touching a tablet always..

Now, if u can only see a physical keyboard attached you'd be all set.

I doubt execs get their hands dirty on places like this. But I'm sure some Apple PR folks moonlight on places like this, to tamp down the negativity, by being overly bubbly towards anything and everything rumored to be released from 1 Infinite Loop.

Yeah! And when they would not have removed vga, they would still be number one!
Sjeez, people wining about using a usb-c adapter are really getting anoying.
It is all about price of the adapters, if people would just admit that, i can understand that argument. Not the one about using an adapter if you need it.
Perhaps stop whining at the whiners - its getting really annoying dismissing other peoples needs.

I would like a dongle free experience, with hdmi, usb-a, usb-c, sd card... that and the ability to swap out ssd, ram and battery
So I switched from Apples laptop to Dell XPS.

If I'm on the go I would want built in ports.
If I'm at home on the sofa, I don't want a bundle of dongles.
If I'm at home at a desk, I'd want a dock to Usb-C

Are you saying you wouldn't be able to go into Best Buy and choose one?
No but I'm talking about the psychological condition known as the paradox of choice. When presented with too many choices, consumers are more likely to not choose anything. Apple suffered from this in the early 90s and it lead to their downfall.

Why no large screen for "high end" model? These days, Apple always make something undesirable. With each product announcement, a long time customer like me hates them more and more.

Don't know about hate, more frustrated and disappointing, but I am patient and will wait .
Trying to get around their misguided phase by being old good stuff at lower prices.
Will probably be a looooong wait and lately it's been taxing and I cannot follow their "into the future"
brain gyrations.

On an iPad 2 which is still fine to read and surf a little and would have jumped already on an iPad Pro, if it wasn't too expensive for what I need.
I have no problem that iPads are for consuming, but I'd like a good screen size.

Kill the iPad mini already. The iPhone (especially the plus) I have are in that range.

BTW: Apple since 1984 and I have seen A LOT of undesirable stuff.

They intentionally made things that are less than what they could do so that they could "upgrade" it a year later. For each product they made the past two years, they crippled on purpose some features that they could have included so that we customers have to keep upgrading each year.

It's certainly been working for Apple going on four decades selling much higher-priced computers/devices loaded with high margins, as well as other successful companies.

Apple nearly went bust during that four decades. Many others actually went bust.

Kill the iPad mini already.

Why do a lot of people want to see the mini killed?

The mini is great for kids. My daughter had been using my original iPad and I gave her the choice of iPad or iPad Mini last year and she wanted the mini.

Yeah, you might have been happiest in East Germany.
You could choose 1 of 2 cars (Trabant or Wartburg)
People were so satisfied, nobody suffered from paradox of choice.
No fragmentation whatsoever.
It certainly contributed to the country's downfall though.

Yup... too many low margin, low demand products. As an example, Apple over the years produced 45 different printers while the industry was becoming commoditized. Good that Apple got out of that losing situation. Ditto with displays today.

Why? All iOS users can download all the apps that I've worked on. Being able to download from other sources wouldn't benefit me, wouldn't benefit the users, it only would potentially help pirates.
I'm not sure why a developer would make a statement like that...

There are many developers of apps on OSX that avoid the App Store because of restrictions.
There are many apps that do not make it on to the iOS App Store because they break what Apple deems appropriate.
There are many developers who would like to release Apps that do not have to
  • Be able to use what ever APIs they want.
  • Be able to display what ever content they like.
  • Be able to download apps without the 30% cut.
  • and so on....

I'm getting one for drawing this year. I'm not sure which would be best.

I actually agree with you. I think a cursor option is necessary for productivity. I think the whole issue is that a 'Pro' device needs more accurate input than touch. The Pencil is a good option for certain tasks, but I personally use Microsoft Office daily, and formatting and editing is a huge pain in the ass without cursor input. I could seen Apple adding this feature via a Touchpad, but I don't think Apple is ever, ever, going to allow Mouse support on iOS. I could see them adding Touchpad Support though.

yep, we are both thinking the same thing.

To be honest I am fine without mouse input and can never see it happening but at least a touchpad would be extremely useful. It would mean a total redesign to the keyboard, but I am not complaining about that given it is average at best.

The next iPad will come in two sizes, 10.x" and 12.9"

The 10.x" will have the same body size as the current 9.7" iPad
And the 12.9" will have a smaller body than the current generation

Both will be bezel-less

This makes the most sense to me. I don't see them making a 9.7" and a bezel-less 10-10.5" doesn't make sense to have two assembly lines for such a small difference in screen size. Especially considering ipad sales have slowed quite a bit over the years.

Because some people hate for Apple to provide choices to consumers. I mean, look at the fanbois glee at Apple removing usability to the MacBook Pro, so it can make it macbook like, only with a couple more USB-C ports.

No, you want a free of wire, cards and other pheriphals experience on your sofa. Apple is the only one taking the steps to encourage developers to do that by making it a necessity. One kind of very fast port for all and wifi/bluetooth is the way to go.
On te go, a complete wireless experience is the way to go. In 2 years dell and the others will follow. Why? Because there will be high end dlsr' s with wifi/4g connection, plenty of monitors with usb-c , etc. It will make life easier, because apple took the plunge, while others waited instead of taking steps themselves.

I still don't understand how any body is getting ripped off. You have a choice to buy it or not. Apple is not exploiting or cheating there customers. if you don't like it, they happily take it back
Also I don't believe apple has ever made a fifty percent quarterly profit margin.
