iPad Pro Mini. I was pencil functionality in the Mini size.
If Apple wants to get my money..... No plans on buying a larger iPad.
The Mini is the size I want.
My wife wants the larger Pro.

And this to me is exactly what I think Apple wants. They want an iPad in various sizes that will suit everybody's needs. Some only want the Pro in the 12.9 inch and others once the iPad mini or the 9.7 inch. If this new 10 inch iPad can offer similar features that the iPad Pro line can offer, then I think will be successful. But I also think they need to do something different aside from just making a smaller iPad Pro which we already have a 9.7 inch. A 10 inch iPad with additional or new features, will likely try to create a middle ground for everyone.

But I'm not sure what will happen to the fate of the iPad mini. Which seems to be a popular favorite still with mini iPad users.

Maybe those bloggers ought to be on apples board and they can run the company. The markets have change in the last 6 years and apple has to adapt. Apple will always be a prime target for pot-shots. They listen to the customers, and this is what their customers want. And you know what they say about opinions....

Customers don't want an iPad Mini when it was amongst the top selling products on Bestbuy and Amazon?
Customers do want an iPad which is not even an inch bigger than the 9.7 and ready to pay 100 more for a 0.6 increase in screen size? What is even the point of the 9.7 then?

The current iPads, at their current prices will become the budget ones and this new 10" the "Pro" version at a much higher price. No need for any price adjustments that way.

That's a funny comment. Making it sound as if the device isn't the most successful tablet on the market. And yes, it also runs the same os as some other device, how dare they.

Room for improvement, for sure. Laughing stock? Unlikely.

I said it was a laughing stock in the Pro market. In the general consumer space, the iPad is a hit product. But Pro users don't want to touch the thing.
[doublepost=1483953679][/doublepost]
Guess what? I love that my iPad is essentially a giant iPod touch and I am able to do many wonderful things on it precisely because it runs a mobile OS. I love that my iPad is the perfect package of battery life, portability and ease of use, and that it doesn't have a desktop OS bogging it down.

I would love for more functionality to come to it, but please keep macOS far far away from my iPad Pro.

Never said the iPad should be running macOS. That would be horrendous. I said an adapted version of iOS with more features.

Pros won't touch the thing? You mean the professional photographers & Videographers who are leaving their heavy laptops at home and taking an iPad pro into the field instead? The professional artists who are creating works of art and magazine covers using the Apple pencil & iPad pro? Those professionals? Are there things professionals still need a Mac for? Sure. Lots. But there's also more & more professionals reaching for their ipad pros to create content on too. So to say pro users won't touch the thing is not only far from the truth, it's flat out ignorant. Sorry. For you and many professionals, it may not be the tool you need. But for a growing number of professionals it is the thing they grab first. I'm a professional who is going to make the switch this March when they update the iPad pros. Instead of upgrading my MacBook Pro, I'm gonna nab an iPad pro & Apple pencil. I have a lot of professional friends who already have, and I've seen the proof. I've seen them produce & create amazing works of art with it. I've borrowed theirs and I am convinced it will work for me too. I'm ready to make the switch. If you can't, that's cool. But that's you. It's your subjective opinion, and not a universal truth for every other professional out there. Just sayin. Cheers.

Oh I see, the voice of the professional user. Weird that hardly ever surfaces (hehe) on the relevant forum here. Not a representation of any opinion other than your own.

I got the iPad pro as soon as it came out, and I can attest it's the best tablet I've ever owned, by a country mile - and if you are hesitating getting one, don't hesitate. Yep, the pencil is quite good for graphic artists and for doing work on the go, if that's your thing. It's also very very good for annotating PDF's and hand writing notes in lectures/seminars/conferences/meetings, or for filling in forms and sending them off, personally signed. It is A4 approximately in size, so with a glass cover it makes a handy clipboard. It's been worth the money.

But if I am going to sit down and do actual creative work that earns real money - and time is money - then it's faster and more productive to sit at a desk with a couple of big screens with a keyboard/mouse/touchpad/wacom tablet etc etc. This point was well made at the very start by reviewers when the iPad Pro first came out. Awesome but.. the main reason being iOS' limitations with windowing, file system restrictions etc, so you can't just easily work with files on a network drive like a 'real' computer can, for example. There are apps for all that, but it's not part of the native setup.

There's different type of what you call pro users so so say pro users wouldn't touch the iPad is naïve

What I think Apple is doing (I hope they are) is removing the iPad mini as a product, it's not very popular anymore and will likely die out or the iPad mini 4 will remain at a reduced price.

The iPad Pro 12.9" will remain as a Pro device, as well as a new 10.5" 'PRO' that will be the same footprint of the 9.7" iPad 'New design' but with a larger screen and smaller bezels.

Apple will keep the 9.7" model as a entry level, of the old design. The 9.7" is the most popular and perfect, I've had a mini and wanted bigger iPad, got a 12.9" Pro and wanted smaller. Steve had the size right to begin with.

This all makes sense AS LONG AS they remove the mini and get rid of the ageing iPad Air 2.

A pro computer without a basic file manager or sorting functions is a recipie for nightmare
That's a good point I think. I can't really understand why portable hardware has to have a crippled file system. If it's for device security then I would have hoped there was a way around that problem by now. If it's because devices were underpowered that is not an issue anymore.

Apple does this deliberately to coerce you into getting the more expensive model. It’s sleazy psychological manipulation, and the primary reason I have stopped buying Apple products.
Doesn't work for me. I buy what I need.

A pro-user is different requirement than a non pro user but doesn't need a "pro computer " to do their function.

Works for a majority lf Apple customers

If I want dual camera I need to get the 5.5 iPhone
If I want dedicated graphics I need to get the most expensive MacBook pro

No rocket science.iPad sales are cratering to the point even Mac sells better.Yes Apple doesn't know what customers want and is throwing hardware at the wall and seeing what sticks.First the came out with a 8 inch iPad,then they come out with a 13 inch iPad but with lower specs than the 9.7 one and now they come out with a 10 inch iPad and discountinuing the Mini

So again more generalizing about the masses which you claim to know what they want. Got it. Yes you need to get a high end phone or computer with high end features. No issue with that. Cars have been doing that for 100 years. Jobs started that, Tim is continuing.

iPads still "destroyed " other tablets in sales. And this very thread has pro users post about doing pro work on an iPad Pro. Ask them.

Whining about the whiners is also just as boring ;)

So is whining about the whiner whiners ;)

Nothing wrong with having, and voicing, negative opinions. That's not the same as talking utter **** and crying like a petulant child.

Even basic work gets done so much faster with a file manager.I can actually save files wherever I want on my Android and open them from that same folder on PC.I have also sorted both my work and personal attachments into different folders on my S6 Edge. A file manager is a invaluable tool.Even Windows Phone did not have a file manager until they took customer feedback into consideration and implemented it on their devices.iOS remains the only operating system without one and damn if its not a inconvenience multiple times.Even when I use Xender to transfer files I need that app installed to see where its gone on an iPad as I cant open it using the default OS.Its cumbersome which is why I rarely use my iPad for work

'New high end ipad'
=
'Tim's latest desperate attempt to shore up his RSU's before bailing'

Another pony fragmentation that won't resonate with consumers in the long-term.

Sharp edges???
I've got a air 1 and 2 here with me now (both with respective smart covers) and no idea how you can call them preposterously sharp. Sure, they ain't baby butt smooth, but I've never even thought about it as a problem. Perhaps your iPad isn't aligned correctly.

I will agree that the air 2 smart cover is quite rubbish.

And I think a 10.x inch almost bezel free ipad in the same size as a 9.7 inch is a fantastic idea. I've always wished the 9.7 screen was a little bigger but didn't want the actual size to be bigger.

Well of course everyone will feel differently. Some are going to be more sensitive to such things. But you're right, and I will rephrase; it's presposterous, to me, that the edges are sharp.

Yes there is an app for that, but it doesn't make it inconvenient. My pages file gobti iCloud and can seamlessly be opened up on my devices. Don't need to think about it. I can access my corporate documents easily with a specific app on my iPad 2, no file system needed.

I wonder if by any chance Apple will launch some kind of iPad with integrated keyboard akin a Chromebook.
Maybe that's the reason for the thin bezel?

Why are sales tanking?Tanking sales=Happy customers?
Why is the iPad Mini a top seller on Amazon yet Apple feels no one buys it

Why am I pushed to get the bigger screen to get the better camera.Samsung has the same camera tech on both the smaller and larger phones and the only differentiating factor is the screen size .Why do I need a bigger screen to get better features?

No Timmy started it.Lets se the product line when Jobs was around

1 iPhone
1 iPad

Timmy's product line

2 iPhones (soon to be 3)
4 iPads(soon to be 5)

iPads still "destroyed " other tablets in sales. And this very thread has pro users post about doing pro work on an iPad Pro. Ask them.

Haha.Who did they "destroy" ? The overpriced Surface?Or the non existent Android competition? Its so easy to destroy the compeititon when , you know , one of them sells only top end niche tablets while there is no one to cater to the mid and low end

I do pro work regularly. And that is not possible on an iPad hence its not pro. The pro laptop I am using can do ALL sorts of pro work. The Pro ipad cannot

That is not a universally true statement. SOME basic tasks can get done faster with a file manager, others don't.

There are a variety of philosophies regarding workflows. The three major ones are: File-centric, App-centric, Task-centric.

Modern desktop OSes, because they are multi-purpose offer functions to support all three. Mobile OSes have a more narrowly defined scope and so generally end up focusing on one. Android=file-centric, iOS=app-centric

It seems like you are a file-centric person and so a file manager is a critical app for your workflow. Depending upon the task at hand, I switch between all 3.

On the iPad, there is rudimentary beginnings of exposing the file system... iCloud, DropBox, OneDrive, etc. and apps like Documents help to move in that direction.

I know that I'm in the minority opinion, but I don't think the solution to the perceived shortcomings of iOS is to turn it into macOS. I want an intelligent approach that examines how iPads are being used and CAN be used and develop an implementation that is optimized for those use cases rather than simply mimicking a desktop OS.

Except for the one year old iPad pros that come with the added bonus of a higher price, the iPads, like the macs, are woefully out of date. You would have to be an absolute idiot to buy an iPad mini for example.

get over yourself. Just because YOU don't like something or wouldn't buy something doesn't make them an "absolute idiot," for getting it for themselves. Some of us may think you are an absolute moron for making such a blanket, stupid statement.

Tim is unfortunately cleaning up Steves sloppy marketing here. The tablet world has changed, however, they are still selling a ton of ipads. Those that are buying are happy.

Why did the iphone under jobs start at 8 gig, and you had to pay more to get the best? Timmy is only continuing what Stevie started.

I don't know if you are in the minority or not, or even saying where IOS is today, is where it should be, however, people have learned to work with what they like and what is available. There is no one size fits all.
