It's truly a sad age we live in. People are so brainwashed that they rather have other people make decisions for them instead of thinking for themselves. If you want to go the no porn route, then don't look at porn and monitor your children. Don't let companies say what you can and cannot do with a product you purchased.

I'm sorry, did Apple start blocking porn sites? No. They are restricting what materials they distribute through their iTunes store. If you want porn just use the Internet. BTW, I find it hypocritical if not plain ridiculous for people to cry for freedom by demanding that they be able to tell someone else(Apple/Jobs) what they have to do with their property both physical and intellectual.

This guy is a total tool. I know if I download an app from the app store its going to work and not screw up my touch. Do we really need all these crappy written apps that don't work and just crowd up the app store.
Yes not having Flash sucks but there are other ways to view content that is written in flash.

Exactly. People don't get, that having the secure App Store is a privilege. And with it, we have to deal with some things that, don't make us 100% happy, but we know they are for the betterment of us.

And he's got a point, lumping together American liberals, Europe, and Hugo Chavez is just silly.

I stand by my lumping together of Europe, American liberals and Hugo Chavez, they are all cut from the same cloth.

I am responding to the American capitalism and Apple bashing. There is a reason why Silicon Valley sprouted up in the US and not some random other welfare state country.

What I don't seem to understand is how some people can't grasp that a company can do whatever it wants with it own hardware and software. I run my own business and I don't just let people "do what they want" You have a bunch of other computer and cell phone companies out there. If they are doing something that Apple isn't and you like it...then get that product.

It really boggles my mind how difficult it is for people to understand that....

I'm sure this has been said.... but if you don't like it, don't buy it. How difficult is that for this guy?

And this is different from MS, how?

It's scrubs time, but exactly how is that reasoning different from what Microsoft spent the 90s doing with Windows? It is their software, so why can't they do anything they want to do. And if you don't like it, buy a Mac or get Linux.

You do have a choice.

Last time I checked, buying an iPad was NOT mandatory. If it's not what you want, choose something else.

Why do so many people on these threads think Apple must make products that fit in with their own particular requirements? Apple, like every other commercial company in the entire world, makes products for profit. It's the companies' choice of what to make; it's your choice to buy or not.

Is that too hard to understand?

Amen, brother! I also wonder why so many people find that concept too difficult to understand.

"IF you dont like it, buy something else" is a term used to completely fool people in an old capitalistic country where the consumers are naive enough to think that the choice is theirs, and anyone has the chance to offer them a different product.

Its kill or be killed. Thats the whole weakness of capitalism in america, so easy to monopolize. Which is exactly what Apple has done. And theres nobody at this point that efficiently can compete and offer the consumer a better product.

So when Jobs says this, he is sitting with a grin on his face, rubbing his hands together. Because in reality, its a joke.

The reality is that Apples products is increasingly becoming a dominant force in the computer marked. With their stationary, and portable computers, phones, tablets etc. With that much power, they can no longer do what they want, they must serve the peoples RIGHTS, not their own wallets.

What? Please tell me this is in a sarcastic voice. Why do you think a consumer product company that is having market success is so dangerous and powerful? It makes no sense. I am starting to believe that the sense of entitlement many of you express and the collective ignorance of the meaning of freedom and US constitutional rights that you share are a sad sign for all of us.

Because MS had and still have a monopoly in the desktop OS market. They abused their position, which is illegal. (found guilty in court cases in several countries including the US).

In case Apple gains monopoly status (I really, really hope they never will) they couldn't do whatever they wanted either. So far iPhone has about 20% market share in the smart phone market, and about 2% for all cellphones.

Total waste to have someone with this intellect and maturity - i.e. generally lacking in - converse back and forth with Steve Jobs.

At the very least I would have loved to see the question asked: what is magical and revolutionary about a device that has less features - aside from a larger screen - than something you released three years ago? The commercials for the iPad bring me near nausea...

?

Bottom Line?

How many people have ever heard of Ryan Tate let alone who will know his name next year or the year after.

Steve Jobs will be known probably as long as there are computers.

Who the hell cares what Ryan Tate has to say anyway.

No, I did not read all the 29 pages of posts so I am sure this has already been said - just need to say myself.

So that is because of that socialist party in the US?

Nope, one does not need to be a member of a specific socialist party in order to have a totally warped, socialist leaning and anti-capitalist ideology.

Dear Steve Jobs,

Just an open letter to say thanks... thanks for the great [well, besides this durn sharp front lip on my MB :( ;) ] products and culture that you've helped create at Apple. Much appreciate your vision.

Best regards,
A customer,,, a customer that has two [soon to be three when the new Mac Pros come out], and has helped four others buy Apples too.

Amen, brother! I also wonder why so many people find that concept too difficult to understand.

It's puzzling me too. I'm guessing a lot of folks here are employees and, therefore, don't think of themselves as running a business and can't relate to handling unreasonable demands from a customer.

Of course, nothing could be further from the truth. Employees are running their own businesses. They're the boss and they have exactly one customer (their boss).

Their "product" is the valuable time and skills they deliver daily to their customer (the boss) in exchange for cash. It's a simple business transaction.

Now, suppose they show up for work one morning and their customer (the boss) tells them to do something they're morally opposed to. Should they do it (because one customer wants it - and the customer is always right?) or do they tell that pushy customer to take a hike?

But there's a difference, Apple say no to Adobe, only to punish (yes punish) the users of their hardware. This is my first Mac and I've been a Windows user the whole time. The hardware inside this MacBook is out of date compared to laptops running Windows. Apple slaps a premium price on hardware and limits what it's OS can run on. Microsoft customise their software to work on any hardware...

Microsoft make one mistake and the media are all over it, Apple jabbing them, even the price of their OS is laughed at... Microsoft constantly bring out updates, the OS isn't open source, Mac is based off Linux/Unix afaik (guessing because of terminal) so most of it's system has been coded and created by the users? (I am most likely wrong here sorry)

Apple make a big step and say no way to Adobe and all you get is 1 news paragraph saying what's happened. Microsoft make 1 mistake it's all over the news, people moaning, sarcasm thrown at them etc...

Apple don't care, their systems are for rich people anyway.

Any company that says I can't use flash is out of order and don't deserve any of my hard earned cash. I was going to buy an iPad until I read about it... What if I ran my website on Flash?
First time MacBook user
Once you go Mac, you don't go back.

You know, when you go on a rant like that and leave that as your signature you look pretty silly. Obviously at one point you felt the Mac was superior. If you are that desperate to run flash then go back to a PC. Enjoy your security problems, enjoy those viruses that are making that "new fangled tech" slower than the Macs "outdated" tech. Don't let the door hit your ass on the way out to the dell store.

No one here is saying you can't view porn on the the iPhone/iPad if you want, it has a web browser after all, Apple simply wont sell it via the App Store. It is amazing how people freak out about this. Funny last time I went into a Chapters or Indigo bookstore I didn't see any porn section? Why are people not protesting book and magazine stores that don't sell porn? Why is it all right for a brick and mortar store to decide they don't want to carry a product because of their moral values and an online retailer is bashed for it? As for Flash its a buggy, security riddled nightmare that only people who can't be bothered to learn how to program focus on. When I was learning web design it was an instant fail if you were caught using flash or dreamweaver since the purpose of the class was to learn how to develop a website, not point and click your way to crappy sites that show no innovation. And Adobe has no one to blame but itself for the lack of flash on the iPad/iPhone. Apple went to Adobe and asked them to put together a version that was A) stable. B) not a resource hog that kills batteries. Adobe has had what? 3-4 years to get that out there before Apple finally said screw it we don't want your stinking flash on our system. If Adobe had stepped up to the plate and fixed the program when they were asked about it when the iPhone was first coming out this wouldn't be the case. So Adobe can go cry about how they are getting shut out of the game, they have no one but themselves to blame.

Open letter to Steve Jobs:

(If Mac Rumors wants to move this to the Open Letters to Steve Jobs section, that is fine.)

Mr. Jobs, I am getting quite fed up with your dictatorial way of running your companies. You decide what music, TV shows and Music come out on iTunes. You choose what apps get to run on the iPhone and the iPad. You don't let other companies make random computers under your name and sell them.

Enough is enough! I understand you own a big chunk of Disney. I demand that you take all 15 dog porn movies that I wrote and directed (I was never on film) and I demand that you distribute them under the Disney name. I demand that you insure these moves sell as well as the best Disney movies in the past. and I demand that you put your name on each of them!

While you are at it, I demand that you make a pink and green 11 inch Mac Book pro named Sidney with 64 GB RAM and a 16 TB RAID array.

This is a free country, the First Amendment requires that you comply with my demands.

PS. Thanks for making all the cool computers.

Jobs nailed it when he said everyone has a choice. No one puts a gun to your head and says you must use (or develop for) Apple's eco-system.

Come on! That was such BS. No developers the iPhone would not be where it us today. Jobs knows this too.

There needs to be a balance.

What the hell...

i think a lot of people are too. but we should be given our own choice to decide what we want to do.

What are you talking about?? You make your choice when you buy an iPhone OS device. Apple can do whatever they want with their product, it's there creation. You don't like what the device offers or if it doesn't satisfy you, buy another product. That's like me saying I don't like person "A's" blog because they don't talk about Sony. You know how I solve that problem? I take my ass to a blog that includes Sony coverage. Plain and simple. Don't see what the big fuss is about, it's common ****ing sense...

Perhaps not too much
But there is no need to buy
That which you don't like

Why people do not understand this point is completely beyond me. Its such a flippin joke, people need to stop being so ignorant to that fact.
