Johnny Ive's will probably make the iphone 6 look like a small ipad air. Super boring.

The iphone 4 is the most beautiful smartphone design to date imho. I'd love to be amazed again by an iphone design. It would be great if they would make use of a new material, like some sort of satin textured laminated ceramic backed iphone or something. Or machine an entire casing out of a brick of sapphire. But i'm sure a lot of the design has to do with engineering and cost limitations.
This comment is really iconic for the ridiculously high standards people hold against Apple nowadays.

If the new iPhone doesn't have some satin texutred laminated ceramic back, people are bored... Jeez! The hell.

Tooo many side buttons
+rounded flash (no dual led)
+too big usim slot
+protuding camera
+

Tells me tot an iPhone, as much its an premium kirf or an Engineering prototype for the bigger 5.5" iPod Touch.
- What's wrong with the number of side buttons? It's the same as the iPhone 5.
- How big is the uslim slot, really? You can't tell from these photos. Furthermore, why would Apple make a prototype with a bigger sim slot than they currently use? Makes no sense.
- Protuding camera is something they use on the iPod Touch.

Either this is fake or it's the real thing, but if it's real the final design is gonna be very similar to what's shown here.

----------

The overall design has clear influence from the 4S, 5C, and iPod Touch. It pushes the limits of thin-ness, but I'm not sure it'll be a revolutionary leap… but as we know nothing about the materials or internals I'm sure there will be surprises this September.
Apple doesn't do revolutionairy leaps besides the first product in a new category. But after that, they iterate. Always.

I haven't seen many people talk about what they think Apple's game plan is for the 4" screen. I'm talking about now and into the foreseeable future. I just don't see them axing the 4" screen from the line-up anytime soon. By 2016, I hope they release premium versions of the 4", 4.7", and 5.7" iPhones, with a 5c-type version of one of those models. Opinions?

I don't think that the larger screens will get 5c style versions. I think that a 5c style 5.7" device would likely verge on a similar price bracket as a 4.7" premium device and be in conflict market share wise. The premium would be the one that wins out from Apple.

I don't see the 4" size going either. I imagine the 5c style will continue as a medium/low level budget phone using the 4" screen which will I think might get some of the trickle down technology as time goes on. (fingerprint sensor etc). There is definitely a market (at least in the UK just now) for the cheaper, but fully functional phones. Just look at the GSMArena article reporting that the Moto G drove the company from negligible market share to 6% market share of new phone sales ... in 6 months.

In broader terms, I'd say that mobile phones are plateau-ing a little. Across the price spectrum of mobile phones now (from motoG's to top line iPhones ), whatever you buy new today is going to be able to handle the bulk of average uses such as calls, messaging, social media, music, film and web browsing.

Similar thing with home computing too. Anything you buy, even the cheapest laptop from the supermarket, will manage to do the main tasks of email, office stuff and web, if thats all you need it for.

With that in mind, ignoring those who want the latest, there is going to be a large proportion of people who do have money to spend but objectively look at 'what are my needs' and 'how cheap can I do that for'. In many cases, the functional cheaper smart phones are going to win that decision over a premium phone.

If Apple were to continue premium only, I think its likely they will lose out on marketshare and to keep a 5c type 4" device, at the right price point of course, will let them tap into that more objectively thinking market.

The premium thing worked for Apple in the past ... they were so good at driving forward new features and innovations which gave the iPhone the desirability and ability to do stuff which was worth paying a premium for . Now I think thats less of the case now.

Well the person who leaked the image is screwed now.. meta data on image.. placement of the PC within foxcon (hope they will be updating soon as XP is almost out of support :D)

Wonder how much the leak pictures were worth?

I really don't see what the issue about XP is. On a production line, if it aint broke, don't fix it.

If you really think that production lines all work off the latest and greatest just because the line is producing the latest and greatest, then you really need to re-think your ideas about production lines.

As as for support ... its only Microsoft's support thats ending ... a lot of the production machinery will be running on custom code developed for or by foxconn themselves. The factory machines probably come from a standard image and if that XP platform is reasonably stable (which it probably is) then its really only support for the custom software thats needed. Which won't be coming from MS.

Heck, many of the machine control systems could be running Windows 3 or 3.11.

Seen those (this year) for western-owned automotive plants. Yes, your new super car was made with an OS from 1990/1992.

Or mainframes.. lol

Those things are still around, however, for a hefty price they can port the main frame software to work on intel CPU's. It's slow as balls but it works and cheaper to maintain a PC then mainframe.

Not saying these are valid, but you would be surprised as to how many manufacturing plants are still using XP. Alot more than you would think.

a couple years ago i worked onsite in an automated testing group for a national-brand US bank (hint: whats in your wallet?)...running on XP and IE6. sometimes if it aint broke, dont fix it. enterprise isn't on the "new!" treadmill.

I really wish Apple would stop focusing so much on making every new iPhone design thinner and lighter. Not once have a picked up my 5S and thought "damn, this phone is just too thick and heavy."

not me. until its the thickness of a business card, it's too thick. you can't get to the future by sticking to the present.

Those photos at the bottom are renders based on the schematic. The other leaked photo appears to be a physical prototype (of what we don't know).

Here is the iPhone 6 near a pencil:

And near the 5s:

The power button :

On the schematic, it shows two port slots on the right side of the phone? Could be SD slot.

No, it shows the mute switch, the vol up button, the volume down button, and the sim card slot.

The sim card slot is also detailed to the right (what alot of people think is the 30pin dock)

Not talking about the left side where the volume is. The right side where the sim is shows two ports. It's hard to read since it's blurry, but one port measures about 10mm long and the other is something like 15.7mm.
To be clear, I'm talking about this schematic:

Ah... i see.. I was looking at the drawing from the story.
I've added words to it to show what I'm seeing..

What is funny, is that this one shows the sim card tray on the left side with the volume switches...

It does make sense for me. I have my phone on sound alert or vibration and I know when I receive notification. I don't want to divert the attention of everybody on my phones display when something comes across. I can simply pick it up and deal with whatever it is or I can deal with it soon as practically possible .

I can see where you're coming from with the nosey parkers of the world.

Looks boring! Come on Apple - impress me.

I love these kinds of statements.... I suspect that no matter what the i6 looked like you would still not be happy. What would it take to "impress" you?

I want my iPhone even thinner than this leak. Of course I want the same if not better battery life too.

So you want a mysterious magic phone that runs on happy thoughts and rainbows? What you want is impossible... no way the phone can get thinner AND have same/better battery life unless there is a giant leap forward in battery design.

but I certainly hope that our iPhones are not being made in a factory driven by 10 year old computers. That alone is of more concern to me that the plausibility of the photo of a screen being a real iPhone.

Why is it a concern?

Also, we can't determine the age of the computer by the software it is running.

I wonder what kind of material the 6 is made from, because the back seems to be a unified piece (compared to the 5/5S which has glass windows).

It is made from a single piece of aluminum , no more glass windows like on the 5S , this is the gold one so you won't think it is an iPod touch .

----------

Now, that's fake.

That's what you think :p . Wait till the launch and see :D. It even has the same exact anodized gold color as the 5s . So I don't see how I can fake this .
