This is probably a prototype wrapped in an extended 5 body to test the new internal components out in real time.

Also wrapping the components in a body that's been used before can for one give great info on manufacturing and potential problems.

Dock Connector

Does anyone else notice that the last photo features a 30-pin dock connector? its the close up on the right of the bottom facing angle.

The protruding lense is only on the large model though. The 4.7" iPhone schematic shows a flush camera assembly.

Ah. I will set my bank account back to instadrain mode again then. Thanks.

My school got new computer 3 years ago. Still uses office 2003 and windows XP... I'm in high school.

Really in the modern (ie run by bean counters) work/school environment no one cares at all what OS the damn appliance is running. It just has to run well enough get the work done so hopefully you can get out the door in time for dinner.

I wouldn't care if it runs CP/M.

Typical Chinese wannabe famous attempt whilst not really thinking... XP and WORD yeah right...

Why would anybody do high tech product development in China in the first place? Unless you of cause want it copied before even finished.

Leave it as-is? It's not like XP will disappear in a few months.

Foxconn is a manufacturing plant and probably the reason why this particular machine hasn't been upgraded is due to legacy program that only runs on Windows XP (maybe something that came with a manufacturing machine).

Windows XP volume licensees do get ongoing support for a while.

Looks legit to me.
Just measure the Lightning connector and audio jack with a ruler, and all the dimensions of the phone in that image can be calculated!
Anyone with a ruler and a calculator in hand?

Yeah! I immediately had the same thought. So, on the 5S, the lighting connector represents 15.7% the total device width; on the device in this image, it represents 10.8% the width of the device. Ratio of sizes is 10.8/15.7 = 0.69 (lol). I think a rough approximation of the new screen size would simply be 4" (current display) / 0.69 (size ratio) = 5.7-5.8". Bam.

These newer images look like they show a 4.7" and 5.7" devices? If that's real, wow. Never thought I'd see such a large phone from Apple.

I have a hard time seeing Apple use the forward-facing speakers and two-tone front of the HTC. If they would, now that'd be looking "just like an HTC One" and I would certainly be mocking Apple for the rest of time. However, it won't happen.

I like HTC phones but these front facing speakers would not do for me at all. I place my phone 99% of the times facing down (on desks, tables ect)
And I don't think Apple would change the speakers location.

I only made it to page 2 and there are already so many ignorant irrelevant posts that seem as if they were posted all by 1st timers.. except MaCrazySwe - you sir are a genius, great points!

Before posting your opinions - think of what we already know! Protruding cameras on the iPod touch. Patents on liquid metals. Patents on interchangeable camera lenses. Curved displays. A design language that only the iPhone is not included in.

A protruding camera - The schematics that were leaked earlier last week DO show a protruding camera on the 5.7" model. Not the 4.5" So this does indeed line up with such drawings. Quit your sniveling, a bigger surface area can mean a thinner profile. Also, what was that rumor about apple patenting interchangeable camera lenses?

All these antenna/metal/gap complaints - Who's to say Apple isn't using 'liquid metal' as a solid back? Or even a sapphire back with 2 lines acting and gaps for signal? Both would look beautiful imho and would be a pretty big change from the 5/5s design with 2 glass pieces separated by an aluminum back.

The 'clamping down on security' comment - It's getting old. Last month everyone was singing a different toon.. 'man why haven't we seen Mr. Blurrycam with the 6?' Now, as soon as an image is leaked with some legitimacy it's 'wow, some security' So which is it? I say Apple is doing a helluva job compared to 2,3,4 years ago, iPhone 4 anyone?

Some asking why Apple is so focused on 'thinner and lighter' Why? Because if it was thicker and heavier, everyone would be up in arms on how Apple could release such a device. Com'mon!

1 leaked image and people are already complaining.. What the hell do you expect? Look at the design language in 1st the touch, then the mini, now the air. It's common sense, well maybe not, to imagine where the phone is going. And honestly, it's one beautiful design.. Slim with rounded edges!

TruTone flash - can Apple not improve the design and possibly add both in one circular design. The pill shape does stand out in my opinion. Stop writing it off just because it's no pill shaped. It's a camera flash for gods sake! Same goes for the speaker grill.

People, relax and take it with a grain of salt.. admire what's being shown and quit trying to be the zen master of Apple's design team and supply channel. At the rate were going, there are apparently 200+ people who believe they could be Apples CEO.

Lol...relax? Every poster doesn't need to agree with one another. That's why these boards are fun to read...for the most part.

Laying it face down makes no sense as each time anything happens on your phone you must pick it up to see what it is..... PLUS when you're watching a video, playing a game ect the speakers will be facing you producing the best sound. Front speakers are on the mark if real IMHO.

Neither did I. I thought anything over 5 would be Fall 2015, at the earliest. Most people underestimate just how big the phablet market is and will become in the next few years. I'm off the opinion that Apple milked the 3.5" and 4" screen for all they were worth, until they were essentially forced to release something bigger. I thought they would do the same with the iphone6; ie sell it to pacify the folks wanting a bigger screen, and do that for at least a year. I'm glad, if this is true, that they're giving the consumer the choice of size which has been wanted/needed for some time now. I hope they stagger the release by 1-3 months.

It does make sense for me. I have my phone on sound alert or vibration and I know when I receive notification. I don't want to divert the attention of everybody on my phones display when something comes across. I can simply pick it up and deal with whatever it is or I can deal with it soon as practically possible .

I haven't seen many people talk about what they think Apple's game plan is for the 4" screen. I'm talking about now and into the foreseeable future. I just don't see them axing the 4" screen from the line-up anytime soon. By 2016, I hope they release premium versions of the 4", 4.7", and 5.7" iPhones, with a 5c-type version of one of those models. Opinions?

Also, is there a possibility that Apple will bundle the 5.7" with the iWatch, to somewhat silence the inevitable critical reviews forthcoming of Apple's ostensibly "hypocritical" stance on one-handed smartphone use.

The fact that Apple is taking their time on the iwatch impress me. No other smart watches are killing it. Accordingly, they should not release the iwatch, TV or any Apple payment system until they are completely ready, even if that occurs 2 years from now.

I can't wait till the fall. That .7 or 1.7" inch(es) of screen real estate will prevent me from considering another brand, which I couldn't stand the thought of.

You are correct. Even though it seems people on here would like to hear otherwise, many companies are still running very old systems.
And there's not a lot wrong with that. These computers usually do very simple administrative tasks, they could run XP forever.

----------

So basically you're saying the iPhone 6 will look just like an HTC One. If Apple does that they deserve all the ridicule they'd get for completely ripping off a competitors design.
This comment is completely unfair.

For starters, the metal antenna with plastic gaps was an original Apple design (iPhone 4). They improved the design with the iPhone 5 by making an aluminium unibody that covers the back. HTC did some minor tweaks and used more or less the same antenna design. However, it's HTC who ripped off Apple, not the other way around!

Furthermore, the HTC One (M8 or M9) is one ugly looking phone while the iPhone 5/5S (and probably the 6 as well) is beautiful. The front is horrendous with all those grills, squares and edges. A total mess, the complete oppposite of Apple's minimalist design in which the front is one piece of glass and nothing else.

----------

Also, there's more to a phone than its backside. I have a hard time seeing Apple use the forward-facing speakers and two-tone front of the HTC. If they would, now that'd be looking "just like an HTC One" and I would certainly be mocking Apple for the rest of time. However, it won't happen.
Exactly!

----------

I really wish Apple would stop focusing so much on making every new iPhone design thinner and lighter. Not once have a picked up my 5S and thought "damn, this phone is just too thick and heavy." But I have thought "Ugh, I can't believe my battery is dying already" on quite a few occasions. I was fine with the weight and thickness of the 4/4S and the 5/5S is definitely plenty thin and light. At this point, I would rather Apple keep the thickness the same and give us noticeably better battery life.

Just my 2 cents...
I think you're wrong.

Proof:
1. Go to your local retailer
2. Try out the iPod Touch and be amazed by it's beautiful sleek, aluminum design.
3. Grab your brand new iPhone 5S. You're iPhone will feel like an ancient brick.

Tooo many side buttons
+rounded flash (no dual led)
+too big usim slot
+protuding camera
+the ligthning connector seems to have rails on one side (zoom the schematic image), so not reversible => uUSB

Tells me tot an iPhone, as much its an premium kirf or an Engineering prototype for the bigger 5.5" iPod Touch.
