I don't know... an Apple Car seems highly doubtful. I feel like, if anything, they'll develop technologies car manufacturers can adopt.

But Apple don't do that.
They make products.

That would be like Apple supplying MacOS and iOS to others to make laptops and tablets.
They don't want to do that as they don't want a bad experience.

They'd never offer their software and then let someone else build a car, as then they would not be in control of everything.

Do you think they (Apple) would build their own fast charging infrastructure?

Well, if you had asked people eight years ago if they can see Apple doing a streaming TV service…

I'm still skeptical that we'll see an Apple Car, but yes, if we do, there will be a fair bit of vertical integration. That's simply their thing.

If they want to control the experience they should. But then again some would argue maybe they should team up and use the supercharger network instead of trying to pull a VWoA (Electrify America).

There is no Apple Car. A car requires very big manufacturing plan with thousand of employees. The battery plant also needs to be very big. Even if many components are sourced from third party manufacturers, Apple would still need an enormous assembling plan. You CANT hide something like that from public eyes. Even if Apple starts to build its manufacturing plant after showing the car, it would take minimum 2 years to finish it and start assembling assuming that they already have the land and the permits to build with the excavators ready to start digging. If you put another 6 months for testing, certifications around the world, training of new personnel, you go to 3 years for the first production car, being optimistic. It is easy to design a prototype, and very different to scale a large production. Just ask Elon. Even if Apple has unlimited cash, it cant manufacture a whole car in secret without us seeing leaks of parts and schematics years in advance.
All of the above are the reasons why I said: "I'll believe it when I see it". Thanks for saving me all the typing. ;)

Its difficult to hide the production of a car so much road testing is required and safety data is made public. I take a trip to Detroit each year just to spot new Fords its pretty easy with their coverings etc to spot I know people that do this with Chevy and Tesla as well.

MSRP for AppleCar(tm) Sedan Ultra Pro Max(tm) with CarOS(tm) Pro Elite(tm): US $2.2 million

Agreed. Not only is that less risky but it would be easier to contain leaks. Tough to imagine they have an actual car this close to release without any leak of it.

I could see this being an early announcement to hype the car and get ahead of the leaks. “The car is coming in 2024” type of thing and here’s a photo or two and some features to make you preorder and gauge enthusiasm.

That is fair.
MobilEye has a few demo videos. https://teslamotorsclub.com/tmc/threads/unedited-mobileye’s-autonomous-vehicle-other-ces-2020-self-driving-ride-videos.180947/

I am not sure if these are State side or in Israel. Again this probably isn't repersentative of the roads in your country. Really surprised you guys don't have any local companies doing the same kind of work.
Yes - definitely more interesting.

The sort of roads I am talking about include what are shown in the video. Even then, a better-than-average road, the conditions are particularly good, no issues with other vehicles, etc.

This is an ignorant comment considering Apple has been in those markets for decades and for all intensive purposes created the smart phone as we know it.
You didn’t buy an iPhone until at least 10 years later in 2017? :) I know I know, you were channeling your inner Ed Colligan!

This feels like bs.
Yeah, trust your instincts. Manufacturing a vehicle is hard and it'd be very difficult to keep a manufacturing plant a secret or if they are outsourcing everything that is the dumbest way you go about building a vehicle. Love 'em or hate 'em Tesla has given everyone the blueprint on how it should be done.

That quote about them being in talks with automotive electronics supplier heavily suggests this is not a full-blown car but something for cars. Building a vehicle is expensive, complex and very, very hard. Not saying that Apple couldn't do it or doesn't have the chops or people to pull it off but why? None of it makes sense nor does it match up with anything Apple has done... this is a huge risk in an already crowded and hyper-competitive market, why in the world would Apple want to try it?

This makes no sense.

I hope not. At least, I hope they don't build a charging infrastructure with gates.

We all need universal chargers. Maybe they would charge faster, or offer some other advantage, to Apple vehicles. But imagine if (using older UK brands), you had to fill up your Austin with petrol at a Shell petrol station. If you have a Riley, you need Esso. Or a Bentley needs BP. (It was bad enough when we had **, ***, ****, even ***** petrol and not all were available everywhere.)

And I would add electric bike charging to every car charger. Again, using a universal interface.

As far as I know the EU is different than NA in terms of required plugs. In EU EVs have to use the same plug. That isn't true in NA.
