Apple's rumored AR/VR headset will be available in six colors, according to a sketchy rumor shared by Twitter account @billbil_kun, which accurately leaked a spec sheet for Samsung's Galaxy S23 Ultra before that device was announced earlier this year.

In a blog post today on French deals website Dealabs, spotted by iPhoneAddict, the anonymous leaker claimed that Apple's headset will be available in black, blue, gray, green, pink, and a sixth undisclosed color. They also claimed that the headset will have at least two storage capacity options, including 128GB and 256GB.

This rumor should be treated with skepticism for a variety of reasons. First, six colors and at least two storage capacities would result in a minimum of twelve product SKUs, which seems unusually high for a headset that is expected to be a niche, high-end product priced at around $3,000. Second, it's unclear if Apple would bother offering both 128GB and 256GB storage options given there would likely be a negligible price difference between the capacities. And third, the leaker does not appear to have any track record with Apple rumors, despite having some accurate Samsung and video game leaks.

One possibility that would make the rumor slightly more believable is that the color options would be for the head strap, which could potentially be interchangeable like AirPods Max ear cushions are. However, it is still questionable whether Apple would bother with the added manufacturing complexities that come with extra color options for a headset that is estimated to ship in low volumes in its first year of availability.

Apple is expected to unveil the headset during its WWDC keynote on Monday, so we're only three days away from finding out if this rumor is accurate.

I mean they offer plenty of colours for the AirPods Max (the metal cans not just the headband) and given their steep cost they also must be quite a niche item.

It was crazy that they thought people would spend over $10,000 for a device that would be obsolete in a few years. I guess you're not buying it for the tech in that case, but you might as well buy a gold mechanical watch then.

Right but people who can don't think about it like that. One mans stretch to pay $1500 for a phone or $6K for a Mac Studio Ultra can seem like chump change to another. $15K can seem as "chumpy" for those swimming in it.

If they’re expecting low volume sales I wouldn’t think multi-color devices would be in the cards.

remember when the iPad was supposed to be $1000 and it ended up being way way cheaper...yeah I think we might be in for one of those. Although even at $1500 unless the software is just ridiculous for AR and you can walk around the street without feeling like a dork its going to be a tough sell

OK, many people have rightly pointed out that all those options would lead to too many SKUs for the expected total unit volume. But additionally, since the market for applications for this HW hasn't been established, how would anyone select the "correct" storage capacity from between two different options?

Don't need to read past headline. Obviously something was lost in translation and they've confused the headset with an old iPhone story. Please don't bother reading this waste of time story.

Color options are probably for the straps and replaceable face cushion. Color options for the main body make no sense for a product with such limited manufacturing.
The manufacturing figures we’re seeing only cover 2023. If it’s released 4-6 months after announced like other new Apple products then that’s between 1-3 months. That’s still decent volume and not dissimilar to AirPods Max, to be looking at multiple colours.

Part of what made the iPhone take off were the apps. I'm hoping the its more than just about playing games. One area where this headset could excel in is related to photo editing and video production. If this is the case, large storage space may be required.

Is that's true it kinda kills the viewpoint of this is just more of a devkit device, not really meant for consumers.
Things like Pretty range of colours, whilst I'm sure devs like options would very unusual, as they are more serious devices to get work done.
All very mixed messages being sent out at the moment.
If I had not heard anything about pricing, I would have guessed, based on all of the news so far we'd be looking at $1499 as high end consumer model.
