Also, I think it's important to point out that if Apple were to release a 4'' iPhone, it would absolutely need to have all the groundbreaking features that the larger kin iPhones would have as well. I think the 5C (and its relatively little success and fanfare) proved that there is not the demand for underpowered, inferior iPhones. Just because you are using a smaller screen for personal preferences does not mean you should be willing to sacrifice performance a larger screen device might offer. I myself would strongly consider a move back to a 4'' phone should one be released, and I would be so, so disappointed if I didn't get all the same features people with the larger iPhones would get.

Some features, such as battery life, storage capacity, etc., could understandbly be inferior on a smaller device, and I'd be okay with that, but as far as new recognizable features, I think it'd need to be the same. While the 6+ offers a superior camera stabilization system (can't remember the name off the top of my head), I wouldn't consider that a groundbreaking difference or feature over my 6. But that's about as far as I think Apple should go in addressing the same features for a smaller iPhone.

And not just the camera difference on the 6/6+ but the battery also is amazing on the 6+ then the screen display. Battery lasting a long time for me is a big plus. That means I can simply do more for a longer period of time on my phone without charging it.

iphone 4 ich

I really don't see why they wouldn't. The 4" size did well for it's time. Anecdotally, I know many people that are still on their 4/4S because the current phones are too big.

There is still a market as long as Apple doesn't handicap it in some way.

I have original iphone, iphone 3G,iphone4 ,iphone 4S and I will never buy bigger phone like 4inch size!

Putting my hand up as someone still using an iPhone 4 daily. Recently replaced the battery (relatively easy task and $20 cost). The phone does more for me now than the day I bought it.

I'm interested in more screen without more phone. The iPhone 4s is 4.25" tall. The 3.5" (diagonal) display is actually less than 3" tall. The rest is head and chin.

By rethinking the head (front and back), Apple might engineer a 3.5" tall display (4" diagonal, same as iPhone 5s) into a 4.25" tall device (same as iPhone 4s).

Similarly, a 4.1" tall display (4.7" diagonal, same as iPhone 6) might be engineered into a 4.9" tall device (same as iPhone 5s).

The chin height could be recuded a little to help, but I don't anticipate a large reduction of that section unless Apple finds a solution to reduce area currently required by the TouchID sensor.

Not holding my breath, but would buy it if it happened.

Oh I so hope this is true! I returned my iPhone 6 because I found it too big - it was nice to use but I value one handed use too much, and I love being able to loosely toss my iPhone 5 around. The iPhone 6 I really had to hold it more carefully.

I don't want thinner. I want a much better battery, better camera and of course faster internals. Make it thicker if it has to be!

I'm one of those weirdos that loves the size of the iPhone 5S. That's about as big as I'm willing to go with a phone, I love the ease of use with one hand without having to stretch or use weird workarounds like reachability. I prefer my phone to be very compact and my tablet to be big, I don't need my phone to get too big. For on the go entertainment/info/etc I want something that is small, light and discreet.

I'm really happy to read rumours that Apple will continue the 4" iPhones and keep them up to date. I don't want to miss out on Apple Pay using NFC. I tried out the iPhone 6 and I couldn't do it, it's just too big to use easily one handed.

The funny thing is that I think women are the ones that want bigger phones, I see a lot of them carrying Notes and Pluses. They have big purses to put their phones in and many of them use their phone two handed. I'm a 6'3" male with above average sized hands and I'm a fan of smaller phones, I want something that can discreetly slip into my pocket and that I can control easily with one hand.

Hopefully this rumour is true and Apple keep the specs on par with the bigger iPhones.

I showed this to my wife and she went bananas. She *hates* the 4.7", it's too big for her tiny T-Rex hands. She really thinks Apple ****ed up by no offering a 4" anymore in the new i6 design.

Me, I'm enjoying my 6+ thank you very much.

Sign me up for a 4" refresh. I want a phone that fits in the palm of my hand and I can use with one hand, period. I could maybe get away with the iPhone 6, but no way the 6+. I have one more year until upgrade so this would be perfect for me. The iPhone 6S-

I'm also in the "smaller phone" camp. The only reason why I haven't upgraded from my 4s is that the 6 iOS too large for my taste. I might get used to it but I prefer the size of the 4s. They can make the screen larger by getting rid of the bezel but the phone overall should be the same size as the 4s.

I also have a 5 as work phone and that is already too big for my taste.

I don't agree with a smaller bezel and larger screen. The bezel is not the issue. A large screen would still mean you can't reach everything with one hand. Also, in theory no bezel sounds great, but in practice it's awful. Just like thinner and thinner phones sound great, until you hold it and it feels weird (iphone6 is almost too thin). Also, no bezel infers removing hardware buttons, which I think add a lot to the iphone experience.

A plain piece of glass might look pretty but the usability suffers severely.

True, but the discussion you're quoting was between myself and someone else who are "OK" with keeping the 4.7" screen size. You're right however -- addressing the bezel will (probably) not resolve the "not being able to reach everything" issue.

I just wonder how many people don't realize that you can double-touch (not press) the home button and it will drop the top of the screen down to 1/2 way...

well i like the iPhone 5 size

well i like the iPhone 5 size fits my pocket, and that is why I did not upgrade to iPhone 6.

This is exactly what should happen, both with the iPhone and the iPad:

iPhone S - Small, 4"
iPhone M - Medium, 4.7"
iPhone L - Large, 5.5"

iPad S - Small, 7.9"
iPad M - Medium, 9.7"
iPad L - Large, 12.2"

Then anyone can choose a size. Just so long as they don't skimp on the features in each model.

Someday:
MacBook Air 11" S
MacBook Air 13" M
MacBook Air 15" L

iMac 21" S
iMac 24" M
iMac 27" L

Bring back the 4"!

Got the iPhone 6 on release date and returned it two weeks later. To me personally, it just felt awkward to hold and harder to use with one hand. Went back to my iPhone 5S and never looked back. I don't miss the larger screen but would love to see an iPhone 6 Mini with a 4" screen and iPhone 6 hardware.

Oh god I hope this one is true. The iPhone 6 is huge to the point of hilarity, and the 6+ just shouldn't even exist.

I'll probably try to dig up a 64GB 5S that's in good shape if/when my 5c dies and Apple doesn't have a suitable replacement.

iWatch

You can't show pencil thin 'athletes' exercising and using iWatch for health monitoring while having to have a 5.5 inch phone that looks like a dinner plate strapped to an arm.

Along with MacBook Pro XXL (sorry couldn't resist).

Well Apple wants to be fashionable, so let us order by size (like clothes), then ship everyone sightly different sizes so we have to try them on to get the right size.

As long as Apple continue to offer a 5.5" or above model, I see no problem in them offering a smaller phone for those that want it. I know quite a lot of people here have said that they would like a smaller phone.

Personally I love my 6 Plus. The larger screen and better battery life suits my needs.

yeh, my wife is delaying upgrading from her 5 and even considering alternatives because she doesn't like the bigger size of the 6, let alone 6+. not everyone wants to walk around with a tablet, go figure.

I have seen lots of female with the 6 aswell and not just the 6+ my wife handles her 6 very well with one hand no problem. I am 6'1 and have above average hands and handle my 6plus very well. But I see your point u prefer a smaller discret phone 5s, but in all honesty the 6 is just .7" bigger than the 5s which is not that big of a deference in my opinion. The 6plus however is a beast of a phone for sure and would not be discret at all.

The design of the iPod touch 5g is phone perfection, maybe now they have the technology to squeeze phone innards into that form factor. It will not need the rounded sides of the larger phone models.

I actually think a new mini-iPhone smaller than this would sell well. Like a 7th gen iPod Nano, a bit thicker to hold a bigger battery and a camera.

Cut down interface and apps, just needs to make calls, take photos, play music, do the fitness stuff too.
