We are still about 5-8 years away from technology that will be able to endure the folding and unfolding of a device like this... It has been shown... and it is lacking.

OK, whatever, BUT
if there is a demand for more iPad screen (and I think there is) a much easier, IMMEDIATE solution is to allow people to use their iPhones as an iPad keypad!

Almost everyone who owns an iPad also has an iPhone, and usually has it present on their person. I think there should be a quick toggle on the on-screen keypad, like the microphone button, to switch to using iPhone for keypad. That would free up a third of the screen and work well for many use cases.

Apple's willing to think alternatively with things like Sidecar! Build on this by creating SideCar for iPad!
Wait—use the phone as the keyboard?

Talk about shallow keyboard.

I’m not sure of the reason for foldable iPad. To make it more portable? I guess.

I can see different use cases for certain form factors. If you’re just using it in bed reading, you want the small form factor. If you want to get work done at a desk, you unfold it.

Nah, foldable devices are silly. I don’t believe this for a second.

Sure... we have come to the end of the smartphone boom and some think we need the gimmicks to jump sharks with fonzi to keep things “exciting”, but hard work on the software side will do that.

There would have to be some stunning advances in materials before it would hold up to Apple's quality standards. Glass just won't bend like it would need to so they would have to go to something more plastic. And durability would be a big holdup. I'd love a car that folds into a briefcase like George Jetson but I'm still waiting. ;)

Nope. Ain’t gonna happen.
If it does, Apple is in trouble; leaving all core values and product development structures behind.
A product should evolve from a need, not the other way arround.
Yep. The gimmicks come out when you ran out of ideas. They still have a lot of work to do in software though. They can focus on that.

Right. Basically a...........................................................................laptop. Those have never been created before, eh? Definitely something NEW! :( :( :(

Base model gonna cost ya $5k + sales tax.

Not $5K, but very expensive for sure. As it should be. This screen is going to be hard to manufacture. The earlier manufacturing runs will be low, with low yields. Let them introduce this in a limited rarified market initially. The prices will eventually fall.

What if it only folds 90 degrees? Like “closed” it’s just a flat iPad, and “open” it bends 90 degrees to be used more like a laptop. Would get around some of the extreme bending issues that other devices are having issues with.

Honestly I wish Apple would just make a Surface Book style design with a real keyboard and trackpad, and then when you flip the display around flat it would switch from macOS UI to iPadOS UI. I think Apple could make it really thin and light and use magnets to make it snap together and feel seamless.

I’ve always thought the foldable smart phone was sort of a stupid idea... I mean you want it to be a device you can use quickly and in short bursts. However a foldable iPad makes 100% sense. Works as a small laptop, or a large tablet, makes it easier to transport around... the galaxy fold isn’t really solving a problem, but a foldable tablet would be if you ask me.

I want a foldable Mac Pro.
Like the Transformers?

Yep, we're just waiting for Apple to include it in their marketing at this point.

I feel the complete opposite. A foldable phone makes sense because you might want to turn your phone into a mini-tablet. But I can't see many people wanting to make their tablets smaller. And even when folded it still won't fit into a pocket so it's not doing much for portability.

Please don't. Foldable products are DOA for now. No one asked for this and only silly people want this.
There is no way to make it good now so leave it. Maybe in the future but for now this tech is DOA.

The true bent iPad coming soon!!

Nope. I like my iPad as it is. Foldable not needed... not like that.

I’d rather see some sort of augmented interaction technology extend the use of the iPad without increasing the actual size. Basically half of the device being an as-needed holographic projection.
