I just want a 2015 mbp with one of the the new multicore-core CPU's inside and a 1TB SSD as standard.
How difficult would that be!?

Can't see this happening. I think it would mean that Apple R&D would have had to have been working on it since before the competitors and i just don't believe that would be the case. Long gone are the days where Apple push hardware design forward (i suspect this is partly why Ive is moving on). They'll wait until the competition has got it sorted and then develop their own learning from the other's mistakes - make it slightly thinner and charge twice as much.

I just want them to fix the heat, touch disease and display issues already. I’d buy an iPad Pro outright again if I could trust it to last at least 2 years without becoming inoperative.

As far as folding iPads, no interest or need here.

The only way Apple has a foldable iPad in 2020 is if they bought a foldable screen company in ~2017. If they did that, I didn't notice.

For a go-anywhere phone model to give a tablet like experience this form factor makes sense, not so sure about a tablet, when you'll have a phone with you anyway? Surely the idea is to merge the function of a smartphone with the screen space of a tablet in one device?

No way this would happen. It’s too advanced for Apple.

My guess is that Apple is hunting down rumour leakers and planted this to see if it would leak.

“but this is one of the first times we've heard of a potential foldable iPad”...

What were the other “first times” you heard of this?

Current model is already foldable.
Foldable withot degrading future operation :)

The way most apps work on iOS with a bluetooth keyboard.... you are staring at the bottom of the screen once you enter a page of text. Really annoying. They'd have to redesign it to keep the focus at the top.
As does all texr in any text editor ot word procesor in any full screen (maximuzed) window on any pc (macs included), ok the screen is usualy way larger than an IPad bur still, or I the only oeson left alive that preferse to work in one window taking up the hole screen so I dont get destracted (ADD) by things in the background

Why would they need to do that? Samsung has already came out and said they gave Apple foldable screens for testing.

I prefer to work in one window as well. But I love Apple Note's ability to shift the text input to the top of the screen, so I'm typing at the top of the screen. I scroll till the text input is at the top, type till I hit 3/4th of the screen, then scroll again. A lot easier than staring at the bottom of the screen. I think Word does this in Mobile view to - Apps are catching on.

Yeah, I prefer single focus by far. Distraction is way too much these days.

Um, NO! Some things shouldn't be folded. Just another excuse to charge us more and ditch tried and true hardware for experimental junk. I don't need a foldable phone, computer or tablet TYVM.

Almost everyone who owns an iPad also has an iPhone

Do you have any statistics or other facts to back this up? The iphone currently has about 16 percent of the market, and Android phones most (or all) of the remaining 84 percent. Source: https://www.gartner.com/en/newsroom...-smartphone-sales-stalled-in-the-fourth-quart

There are plenty of good Android phones to choose from, if one for some reason does not want an iphone. On the tablet side the competition is completely different. There are in my opinion NO good Android tablets that receive timely updates of new Android versions.

So I imagine there are plenty of Android users who own ipads (I am one of them). How large a portion of ipad users do not have iphones, I have no idea. Perhaps you do?

This is something I’d be very interested in

Biggest problem with the 12.9 is the sheer bulk of it , imagine if you could fold it in half !?

Amazing really

iPad needs better software, not this folding gimmick.

iOS and it's vestiges are holding the current crop of iPads back. Particularly the Pro models.

But, it takes time and money to develop viable software with big changes that improve the usability and utility of a device. Often, with that time and money going into "free" upgrades to existing devices. Meaning no immediate impact on the bottom line.

This is the definition of a lack of vision. It's a terribly obtuse way of running a company, and it's Tim Cook's way of running a company. This style of management didn't work out for Kodak (who's scientists invented the Charged Coupled Device, but shelved it in favor of their film business) , Polaroid and the "old" GM.

But I'm sure this hubris will serve Apple well. At least in the short term.....

Why are people at all interested in this folding gimmick?

People need to realize, as soon as you have something that bends or folds you have mechanical wear and tear. It will break down a lot sooner than something static like current iPhones and iPads.

Look how long laptops have been around and we STILL have problems with the hinges sometimes.

Enough with this folding bullcrap!

"That's how my bent iPad already looks" jokes coming in in 3 ... 2 ... 1
Unfortunately it is true and the reason why a good chunk of potential iPad Pro buyers have elected to skip this generation.

Would not be surprised if foldable iPad cost $1999
Apple will continue this game of updated product = higher price until it starts to hurt them financially.

Who asked for this???
We want a foldable phone!

Hopefully Apple is working on a foldable device with a 3 panel Z-fold. When folded it would be a regular sized 6"x3" (Approx.) iPhone, but when it's unfolded it would be a 6"x9" (Approx.) iPad. This would make it slightly smaller than the 11-inch iPad Pro when unfolded, but when folded it would fit in your pocket and be used as an iPhone.

Sketchy? Lol! I can't wait to see the frame bend in the manner of the mockup.

But let me get this straight, Tablets are not laptops but if a Tablet bends does it become a Laptop again?

Nothing Apple puts out will "bend" for another 2-3years minimum.

I call BS on this rumor. Foldable glass isn't ready and probably won't be for another couple of years. Apple's not going to make the same mistake Samsung made with its terrible Fold phone.
