Die hard skiier. All my friends board but I will never give up skiing. I sure hope whistler conditions are better this year.

That reminds me, I need to bring my skiis in to be waxed before the beginning of the season.

Skiing all the way.

Well I'm in my 30's so snowboarding didn't really exist when I was young. I'v been skiing since I was 7.

I have two pairs of Salomons, I don't remember the specific names of them. I love them both. I they both have Salomon binding and I have Salomon boots. And of course, the Thule six ski Ski rack for my car.

My favorite mountains in the north east are Okemo, Mount Snow, Killington, and Mad River Glen (very fun). Vail and the Alps are also really nice.

I want to go back (and never leave)!

What exactly do you guys find annoying about snowboarders?

They just are. :) :)

Snowboarding at all just does not look at all comfortable to me.

Yea it is amazing. Move to Vancouver and you can go up every weekend!

I've been skiing twice in Lake Tahoe. The first time we went was after a quick visit in San Fransico. We hadn't planned on going up to Lake Tahoe but we loved it so much we had to go back the next year :p

This was wayy back in 1998. Haven't done any skiing since :(

I've been skiing for years and years now. My dad first got me on skis when I was 3 I think. I've gone skiing almost every year since then and I'm 18 now :).

I tried snowboarding once, but I got discouraged easily since I was already good at skiing and I didn't like holding up the group. So I went back to skis after 2 days. I think I'd enjoy snowboarding more than skiing though, I've been flipping and spinning my whole life (dived for 5 years, long history in gymnastics and acrobatics, and contemporary wushu), so snowboarding would allow me to continue that trend. If I ever go skiing with a group of newbie skiers, I'm going to give snowboarding another shot and hopefully I won't get discouraged so quickly.

I have yet to try telemark skis or the short ones (I forgot their name ).

Hopefully I'll get to ski this winter break, but who knows? It's great exercise, tons of fun, and my technique gets better every time I go.

My school has whats called the ski and snowboard club. So we go up to whistler once a month and we get lessons, so I'v always been tempted to try a day of boarding lessons but I don't want to have to give up a day of skiing. One day I'll definatley try though. I'll just go somewhere sh*tty so I don't miss a good day of skiing.

My boys and I will be in Breckenridge the week before Christmas :D It's been a long time since I since I've been skiing, but I'm hoping it comes back to me quick! My boys will be snowboarding for the first time :p

I revived this thread this morning because I did a search to see who all snowboards or skies at MR!! I woke up this morning with the biggest winter buzz and I was also emailed my first snow report of the season from Mammoth Mountain (opening day looks like nov. 10th)!!! :) I am on the East coast which sucks but I am taking a trip out west (most likely mammoth) soon!

Well my gear is a K2 151 Skyla Board but I have Burton boots and bindings. This was my learning curve board too, but now I am buying the 2006 K2 151 MIX board (Gretchen Bleiler's ride, she is one of my favs)!! :)

I have a problem...I ride both regular and goofy foot!! :p I have switched around my bindings several times over the years. I am guess my stance is ambidextrous!! :p

Anyway, just wondering who all the snow luvers were in here....as winter approaches I will like to discuss more about snowboarding!! :)

BTW, anyone seen the latest Warren Miller film IMPACT?? Its really good!! ;)

Skied since I was 2 - started in Colorado, Purgatory and the San Francisco peaks in AZ.

Currently have just finished a year long season both here in Aus (best season in many years) and Lake Louise, Canada (worst season in 30 years...so much rain....).

With the advent of short, deep sidecut skis my previous generation 180cm Stöckli Spirits garner a bit of attention. Yeah, they have a deepish sidecut but they are like cruise missiles - very handy when the conditions here get, well, bulletproof. That and I'm 6ft and 100kgs means I like a good solid ski under my foot, I work them really hard :D

I have no problem with what choice of snow sport you choose but have a few words of advice:

Skiers - there is no need to bunch up so much in the lift lines to the point where you are standing on the tails of my skis.

Snowboarders - when you get off a lift, move to the sides and go a little further away from the lift before you put your binding back on, it's incredibly annoying to try and get around 50 or 60 prostrate snowboarders.

Everyone - don't ride a lift you don't know how to ride and DO NOT ride out of your comfort zone - This is what lessons are there for people, use them. The worst and most dangerous thing on the mountain is a beginner skier/snowboarder on a blue or black run who has no idea how to do it. The ski instructors are there to help you progress properly. Even the best has regular lessons, there's no shame in it and the instructors could always use more work ;)

Another skier here.

Have a pair Atomics from the mid 80s that I use when we go the ~100 km (~60 miles) to Voss to ski. Even though the skis are really too old and should be replaced we just don't go often enough (or as often as we should) to justify getting an new pair...

As a good Norwegian I probably should go some cross country skiing to, but I find that utterly boring. Maybe it will come to me with (even more) age... ;)

Never have, and never will, try snowboarding. Looks dull...

ITA!! I consider myself pretty good (well at riding on ICE since I am an East Coaster, when its powder I am of course even better) but I am definitely getting lessons frome some pros when I go out west! I want to get more advanced and I CANNOT wait to ride in a REAL terrain park and a SUPERpipe!! :)

Skier all the way! :D

Rossignol 198cm with Marker Bindings.

Edit: Pic location is Kiroro in Hokkaido, Japan. That run is one of my favorites when the sun is out on a clear day. Sorry that the photo is not so clear. It was taken from a QT video.

Heh, me too, I was totally useless in Powder in Canada and the very rare times we get semi-powder here. And ice, yeah, we get ice, you can see through the top few inches on a good day here - when it's groomed it can rattle your teeth out of their sockets, Great Fun!!

That's why I have my long heavy skis with edges that will draw blood (they really do!), they just hold and hold and hold in the firm but they're wide enough to float in the soft stuff.

The Snowy Mountains - they're not that high, the runs are not that long, but there's nothing like them anywhere in the world. Best party atmosphere ever.

I TOTALLY AGREE! ;) Sorry, I that was an acronym everybody was familiar with on here! Another poster private messaged me about that this morning too!! :p

Cheers, sorry, I'm not very good with all these acronyms.

Nice pic! :D

Nothing like getting out in the mountains during the ski/snowboard season. Makes me want to strap on a pair of skis right now.

I've snowboarded before, and I'm a little jealous of how easily snowboarders can tackle terrain parks, but I prefer skiing any day of the week.

Oh I think you misunderstood me...I am a great snowboarder in pure snow because of getting so stable with always snowboarding on ICE!! There is only one big good snow around here once a season. The runs are not long either. I am really looking forward to heading down a 3 mile run soon off a 13,000 foot elevation! :)

Anybody in here ever tried heli-boarding or heli-skiing?? When I went to Whistler I saw so many companies advertising for that! Of course my skills will have to progress a lot to avoid being killed by an avalache, BUT I want to try it one day. :)

Any telemarkers here? Good telemarkers look so graceful, but they are few and far between, and I hear it's very difficult to be good at.
