I have been a snowboarder for about 6 years now...I would never consider anything else...I have lived in Mammoth CA and in Salt Lake City UT to live and shred...It is more than a hobby it is a lifestyle...it will change your life (Point Break reference ;))

thats what im talking about...

i currently live in zurich, ive got a place in laax, its pretty much the only decent terrain park you can get in the swiss german area. Next year im off to boulder for college, looking forward to see what colorado has to offer..

Burton Custom 158 (groomers)
Rome Agent 160 (back country booters)
Rome Artifact 153 (park)

Burton Frankenbinders.. c16/c14/team skyback/capstrap
Burton sabbath boots

Skis. With the kind of binding that will accept any boot and enable skiing up, down and all around in any conditions. With big boots, shoot couloirs; tour all day for miles with little leather boots; Fixed-heel telemark turns are perfect for unstable/early season alpine tours with ice-climbing boots—single or double, not to mention winter camping or climbing utility.

You can't climb rock or ice in snowboard boots.

I'm all for boarders who have the wherewithal to actually face the fall-line and commit to the reality where side-slipping (plowing) isn't the default posture. Even so, you can't use a board to travel. Even a split-board sucks for GETTING SOMEWHERE compared to skis, albeit infinitely better (in some ways) than snowshoes.

Skis. The better tool.

A good skier and a good snowboarder can get along fine.
Very true. I love to ski with my snowboarding friends.

Skiers have been around for a much longer time than snowboarders, and we have no problem sharing the slopes with people who respect them the same way we do.
Well said.

It's all about respect of your fellow snow ridder regardless of your choice of equipment.

You can't climb rock or ice in snowboard boots.
Nor would I want to rock climb in my ski boots.

What's your point?

You mean were snow boarders face down the hill and just slide the whole way down? Sort of like they are grooming the slope. I hate that as well.

Long time skier here. Have Rossignol 198cm skis.

Trying out snowboarding. Having fun! :)

i started skiing when i was 5, but at about age 14 i switched to boarding, im almost 17 now. i come from a big ski family. but unfortunately i probably wont get out again this year cuz i broke my ankle last week and it's at least 8 weeks before i can board again.

i wish. but no, out here in the midwest we had like 5 inches of snow, then it rained and froze so we had 5 inches of ice, and i was walking through my yard and on uneven ground and slipped and fell on my ankle. lame right? so basically no sports for awhile.
Ouch. Sorry to hear. Compound fracture I take it.

That hurts just thinking about it. Best to you on your healing.

Reminds me of a story about 20 years ago. Back then, here in Japan, the lines were brutal. You had to fight your way, so to speak, to move up in the line. There would be some pushing. Others would put their skis on top of yours to keep you from getting ahead. This lady that I knew was in line. Some folks had place their skis on top of hers, both on the front and back ends of her skis. Unfortunately, she lost her balance while in line and fell breaking both her legs right above the boot. Needless to say she didn't go skiing again during that season.

i love snowboarding. alot of my friends ski and are really good. same can be said with boarding. most people i know do both
nobody i know cares if people do one or the other. we all just go and have a great time

the only thing i like about skiing is
1) more easy to get off chairlift and not as cumbersome as with snowboards (as they are sideways on lift and boards always hit each other)

2) on flats, you dont have to unstrap and walk with your board

Well if you became a better skier you could ski harder runs and you wouldn't have that problem.

I'm a skier, and I find that new skiers are just as bad as boarders with regards to mountain etiquette.

I agree. to get away from the newbies, just go up the mountains and live in the bowls or the black runs. the runs that go to the base are the ones littered with people who cant stop or run into you

Only been once. I picked snowboarding. Tried to ski....that last about 5 min, or 20 feet :D I thought "It can't be much harder than skating (roller hockey). I was very wrong. Skies kept crossing. Couldn't turn at all.

I was going down blues on my 3rd day so i felt fairly accomplished with myself. I took one look at one of the black hills and said "FU***************K THAT!" haha.

Would love to go again. I went to gramby ranch.

And that is the way it should be for fellow snow riders. :)

Too good points.

Skis are much better on lifts and areas that you have to "walk" per se.

Snowboards are fun gliding down the hill.

Too bad one device can't work as both. Like skis on the lift and board on the hill. Press a button on a blue tooth device and it magically transforms. :)

Newbies are dangerous!

The key is to wear padding. :)

Ski but have nothing against most snowboarders. I just can't stand that jerks who grew up on them and think they own the mountain.

After moving to Colorado I got a pair of Rossi Bandit B2's(was 50/50 moved to 70/30 ... it's versatile) and Marker 12.0 Twin Cam Piston Control Turbo Bindings and bloody comfortable Solomon Boots and after having only skied on rented skis, wow what a difference. No wonder newbies can't ski, their skis suck! I've finally got the control I was after.

I'll admit I'm still not used to skiing in the Rockies where it takes 20 minutes to get down a mountain (30+ from the top) but after going a few times last season I can at least do Blues here (they'd be blacks on the East Coast). So far Keystone is my favorite although I LOVE driving through Breck to get to it. I've yet to try A-Basin or the rest though. Man I love living 3 hours from some of the best skiing in the world.

The funniest thing, which my avatar alludes to, is that I'd rather live near the beach. Florida or Hawai'i ... not too fond of California. It's my wife who loves the mountains. Guess who lost that battle?

well most skiers dont understand that the terrain park is not for just cruising through and rolling over the jumps and screwing them up...so that is one of the main reasons for the attitude and if you wern't roling the jumps and ruining the lips then you wouldn't almost get hit!

Its worth ressurecting a 6 year old post for this. The above was in response to an accusation of "oozing entitlement" from snowboarders. I don't think its people who snowboard necessarily, but yankees. Yes, you heard it, yankees. The guy who wrote this is the same guy who sits on interstates surrounding New York City tailgating people in the right lane b/c they are in the way. And tailgating and flashing lights at people in the left lane because they aren't sufficiently tailgating the person ahead of them.

You guys want a fscking clue why the country has gone to hell? Look in the mirror, guys. Its this guy's attitude and entitlement "It's the skier's fault he almost gets hit because he's not moving fast enough," that is what caused 2 presidents from both parties to decide it's OK to pay the Wall Street bonuses using YOUR money.

American lack of consideration for any fellow man, including their own is a bad, bad sign.
