Any telemarkers here? Good telemarkers look so graceful, but they are few and far between, and I hear it's very difficult to be good at.

Damn right they do - the most amazing looking thing on the slopes is a kick-arse telemarker.

You should see them in the parks, there are very few at the moment but it's gaining popularity here pretty rapidly. Just incredible.

Oh I think you misunderstood me...I am a great snowboarder in pure snow because of getting so stable with always snowboarding on ICE!! There is only one big good snow around here once a season. The runs are not long either. I am really looking forward to heading down a 3 mile run soon off a 13,000 foot elevation! :)

No, I understood, I was just adding to the point of getting lessons to improve. Serious Snow Deprivation Syndrome setting in now - 8 months till the season kicks off again here, we only have a short winter but it's a lot of fun even when the snow is crap or even absent. You just have to pick your time carefully (August and September are by far the best months). Man, after living on-snow for over a year it's getting strange now that the summer is coming in thick and fast. Mind you, I'm 200m from the beach so it's not all bad :D :D

By the way, after living in the desert for most of my life I recently moved to Colorado, where the closest ski resort is 25 minutes away, Vail is 2 hours away, and Aspen is 4 hours away. Oh yeah, and ski season is about 6 months long. Jealous? :D

A little...

But hey, this is 2 minutes from me...

Where in the desert were you? I spent my very early years in Phoenix as an air force brat - beautiful scenery around there, especially on a crisp winter's morning when the mountains are visible on the horizon and the sky is deep blue.

Eep, didn't mean to hijack this thread lol. I spent 9 years in Phoenix, 3 years in Tucson, and 3 years in Las Vegas. In Las Vegas, this was 2 minutes from me.

Oop. yeah, sorry...

Um GO SNOW SPORTS YAY!!!

EDIT - Man.... now I am jealous, wish I had a big grey hill like that near me.

Didn't really like Vegas. Tucson is cool, Phoenix is cool (124? was not so cool)

Skiing.

snowboarding was always kinda "meh" to me ...

and for the snowboarders: never ever sit in the snow in the middle of the track in a point where you can be seen very late... just 2 or 3 years ago a german girl got killed that way because she sat down pretty stupid

that aside: just like with bikers: please no music in both ears..
and no scratching the back of other peoples skis oder snowboards

personally i either use my old straight Atomics.., my old Kästle which is used as a teenager but still like them (straight and short), use the old head F1s (?) from my father or rent new carvers
for bindings: Tyrolia mostly

While Vale and Aspen are okay, I would rather ski at Steamboat Springs or Breckenridge.

I've not yet skied at either.
Steamboat has some wonderful long runs. Snow quality is great.

Definitely not for a day trip -- to far from Denver/Boulder area IMHO.

Nice litte rustic town nearby.

My brother and I used to ski there when we could both get away for a weekend. Definitely check it out when you get the chance.

Been skiing since I was 3. My dad bought a a little pair of spalding skis and took me to Vermont for a few days with some family. Have been skiing ever since. I learned to snowboard about 8 years ago and enjoy that too. I used to live in nebraska, so I went to the local places on the weekends, and toook 3-4 trips to Colorado a year. I've had various sets of skis and boards over the years. I've broken more boards than I can remember though. Way too many stupid tricks to count.
I don't really have a preference, as I love both. The thing that sucks is that now I live in Tampa, the closest "decent" slopes are 12 hours away. But aat least I still get to do a yearly trip with my friends. Rcently, we have been going to Beech mountain in NC. I really need to get back to Colorado though.

My favorite part, however, is showing these Florida boys how it's done.

HEY!! Beech Mountain is where I go to snowboard (its only an hour and a half for me)!! And you are so lucky to have been skiing when you were only 3 years old!! In the new Warren Miller film Impact, Chris Davenport skies with his son (4 years old---he is awesome too) at Snowmass!! It is SO cute cause then the little one is off to pre-school after skiing all morning!! That is how I picture my family being someday hopefully...I saw a promo for some resort one time..."A family that shreds together stays together!". Kind of cheesy, but the point is I so want to raise my kids around a mountain and I will always be snowboarding with them no matter what age I am!! :) :)

Boarder :) . Just started last year. I started at the end of the season, and went 4 times. I think I picked it up pretty well. 1st time, I fell like every 10 feet. It's fun once you get it down. I'm ready for this season. I got a Burtonn (forogot what kind) w/ Burtin bindings, and Solomon Boots.

Skier for 12 years at Keystone and Breckenridge, CO. I decided that this year I am going to try boarding. No reason, just the double blacks are getting....well, uneventful. Boarding should a huge challenge for me this year. Bring it.

Yes, the minute I found my edge I was like WHY did I ever think I wasn't going to get it!! Took me about an hour (falling on my ass constantly) to get down the mountain the first time I ever learned, but then all of a sudden it just instantly happened for me! :)

Then I was like damn it...why didn't my parents ever take me snowboarding when I was like 10...I truly missed my calling to become a pro snowboarder!! ;) :D Oh well it is SUPER fun and I have a passion for it now!

Haha, yea, you gotta get that first "click" before you really start to enjoy going down the slopes. I also wished that I tried earlier in my life, oh well. My friends tried convincin' me to go all season, then I finally went towards the end. I was "Why didn't you guys tell me earlier about how fun this is?!" :p

I think another thing that helped me was that my boyfriend at the time (who was a great skier and boarder) was teaching me. I was trying to impress him of course! ;) It started getting real embarrassing though cause I kept falling so I told him to go on and leave me. I kept telling myself there is no way I will not learn how to snowboard!!

I never give up on much anyway!! :)

Skier. Not into shredding. Right now I've got Salomon skis, bindings and boots. My poles are an old set of Fischer poles from my old set of Fischer RC4 210cm skis. I only got the new Salomon parabolics 2 seasons ago.

Here's a pic of my daughter learning to ski backwards (Mt. Buller, Victoria, Australia)

Skiing all the way. I'v been skiing since I could walk.

I got this pic off the whistlerblackcomb site. It looks a lot like me, same toque, same goggles, same colour pants and jacket, and even same skis. Hmm, that would be cool if it actually was me.

Skiing !!! Have done for the last 6 winters in Austria and France.

Just not to repeat anything, I agree with everything the skiiers have whinged about the boarders in this post. Most are noobs, and will hopefully learn.

Bought my first pair of snowblades (Salomon 99s) and can't wait to try them in a couple of months!! Can't see any boarder keeping up with me then!! Muhahahaha! :D

I snowboard either at Grouse mountain, or Whistler if going in groups of 3 or more. That way, we split cost of accomodation. Haven't gone snowboarding in last 2 years. Might go again this winter, got to get ready or else my thighs will be sore all week next.
